  1. From an arial view of Legion Field, it is evident that the visitor side will accomodate more fans than the home side. Have they ever considered swapping to make the visitor side the home side? It's a great field to watch a game from anywhere.

  3. Pinkston is a very good player with good skills but he tends to get shy after a few good pops. Powell Valley is by no means a terrible team, good size, fair quickness and swarming defense. They seemed to start sucking wind about half way through the 3rd quarter but like most smaller schools a lot of kids played both ways. I believe Richlands will beat Powell Valley with depth, fresh players against worn out players. Might be kinda close the 1st half with Richlands pulling away in the 2nd. Keep in mind.......I picked Richlands big over Powell Valley last year.
  4. I attend games all over the state because of my work, I love to go to different games in different districts. With that said, if anywhere other than Gate City fans were on the visitor side cussing players and acting like the Gate City visitor side fence dwellers......they'd be toted off to the local jail or on a gurney. Most of us in this part of the state have learned that it just a Gate City thing. Anyhow, I agree that it only takes a few bad apples to ruin the whole barrel and 90% of Gate City fans are great civilized fans. But it is up to the good Gate City fans to get the rotten apples out of the barrel because as often as it happens, it would appear you like a few rotten apples in your barrel. People that complain about this are not "crybabies", just concerned about the example being set for future generations of redneck cussing fence dwellers. This conduct is not tolerated at any other place I've attended games. The majority of Gate City fans are just great football fans, time to cull out the bad apples.

    Giles

Giles will be alright....lost to two teams that most AA teams around here wouldn't even play.

  8. Trigger.....Good luck. Hope you guys can do it. I don't consider it "bickering", maybe a little difference of opinion. Floyd has came a long way in the past 10 years and you should all be very proud. Until next year, take care my friend.
  9. I believe Phil Henley will be back at Lebanon.......if John Adams retires.
  10. Good luck Trigger. I was not trying to be a smarta$$ and hope you didn't take it that way. I don't believe you understood we weren't taking anything away from Harris, just trying to spread the praise around a little. You giving the win to Luke Harris would be the same as me giving the loss to the kid that fumbled........would that be fair? I think not. Luke is a good player and deserves plenty of praise, but my players of the game would go to every reciever that made a catch on that last drive. I have always respected your opinions and will continue to do so, I believe you try to be as acurate as you possibly can. But, like most of us you tend to watch your team with tunnel vision. Those kids played their hearts out the whole game, with or without Luke Harris. They've every one earned my respect. I couldn't count the times that a team has marched down the field on Lebanon in the early part of the game and Lebanon own them in the 2nd half. As far as Helbert, he's a very speedy and tough runner but he is not Lebanon's entire team as you could tell.........neither is Luke Harris for Floyd.
  11. I really don't care whether my opinion is the same as yours or not. Harris is a good ball player, nobody can deny that. But you've gotten a bit sickening. I've been to a LOT of high school games this year and have seen a lot of players. Several are as good, if not better than Harris. Most of these players didn't have the supporting cast that Harris has had. Those recievers were incredible, most teams don't have that or they would look every bit as good as Harris. I could throw at least 50% with those recievers. And no, Harris didn't do a lot against Lebanon even before he got hurt......I've seen teams drive down and score hundreds of times and still get beat. I believe he was getting a little tired of getting up looking out his helmet's ear hole. Anderson from Gate City, Muncey from Tazewell, Robinson from Clintwood, some I've forgotten.......are all as good as Harris. You might want to give the supporting cast a few more kudo's, they deserve it as much as Harris. I still wish the Floyd County TEAM good luck.
  12. I believe you're a bit too touchy Trigger. What he said is the truth, what's so wrong with that? Harris is pretty good but so is Helbert and Helbert didn't play at all. If you're trying to say that Harris is all you have, then you're in big trouble. Gretna has about 5 or 6 Harris's. Just calm down. We know you think he is all world....but sorry, he's not. If Lebanon had won that game you already had your excuse......., better look for one next week, you'll need it. Lebanon hasn't used Helbert as an excuse, he's not all they had evidently. You might want to think about giving the rest of your team some credit instead of kneeling at the Harris alter relentlessly. Good luck next week.
  13. It looks really ugly in the fall and winter but is a great playing surface. I believe Northwood has it as well as Va. High and Lebanon.
  14. You might beat Lebanon but I believe 35-14 is a bit overconfident. Either you're overestimating Floyd or underestimating Lebanon. Of course anything is possible and you may be right on. But, if the Floyd team is that overconfident, they're in for a rude awakening. The TRD, Hogoheegee, Lonesome Pine and CMD were down this year in division 2. I know Floyd is undefeated, which is a major accomplishment but I haven't seen anything overly impressive about their schedule, same with Lebanon. I believe it'll be a much better contest than what you are allowing. With that said, Lebanon has had one bad half since playing Giles. THEY came into the JJ Kelly game overconfident and Kelly took it to them in the first half, Lebanon dominated the 2nd half. There's nothing wrong with being confident, but overconfidence will get you beat.
  15. Lebanon always had better luck matching up with George Wythe than Chilhowie, went 5-1 vs Wythe and just 4-2 vs Chilhowie......go figure. Congratulations on a great season!!
  16. Richlands 28-21.....experience and they're rarely an underdog. I believe Richlands is the most improved team I've seen this year, seemed to get better every game and they know how to win.
  17. Go get'em Wave.....you have a least one Lebanon fan pull'in for you and I'm sure many more.
  18. I don't believe ringworm would affect their play. Holston might want to wear surgical gloves though. I know staph has been a problem on high school teams for the past few years, hadn't heard of ringworms being a problem. Now, if they had tape worms, then I'd worry, don't want to go into a playoff game with a bunch of anorexic kids.
  19. I will be pulling for all the locals. We may have big rivalries and fight each other tooth and nail during the regular season, but so do brothers and sisters. Southwest District, Lonesome Pine District and Clinch Mountain District are all very near and dear to my heart. It's certainly nothing against your opponents, just tightness of community. Good luck to all, may God watch over each family in their travels over the State and to the Holston community that must travel to Clintwood. Play hard, be safe and win or lose with grace and sportsmanship.
  20. I don't mean any disrespect, I understand what you are saying and somewhat agree. Personally, I enjoy the format. Both teams play on the same turf, in the same weather, with the same refs, with the same fans, with the same players and at the same time. I understand the home field advantage but I really enjoyed two good games.
  21. Lebanon 32 Floyd 21 Clintwood 42 Holston 7
  22. God will be with you and so will all your friends here.
  23. Lebanon has had a history of blowing playoff games, Gate City has had a history of stepping it up during playoff season. Lebanon needs to protect the football better or it could be a loooong day. I hope it won't be a repeat of last year, 3 up the middle and a cloud of dust (or in this case, a cloud of plastic).
