Anthony Stevens, the sports correspondent who submitted the article to BHC is also the radio announcer for WXLZ out of Lebanon that covers Russell County baseball games. He is also a sports writer for The Lebanon News, so between those two duties, I am sure he was there to cover Honaker and submitted the story to BHC.

I agree completely. The classification system is awful, but if you are going to have it then it should be the same for all sports.
-
No doubt she is the back bone. Norton has some other good players on the team, but they are a different team without Miller. I cannot make a prediction due to not having seen Twin Valley play, but I imagine it will be a good game. If TV is knocking down the 3's it could make for a long night for Burton.
-
I wish Coach Matlock and all the Cavaliers the best and congratulate them on a great year. However, it would be a MAJOR upset for them to beat Clintwood. This team is pretty solid from top to bottom. Great Line, Great Backs, Good Receivers, and a defense that runs to the football well. The thing that impressed me the most was the Quarterback's composure against Burton. Granted, he was protected well, but he stood in there and delivered some good balls down the field when needed. That kind of balance with that caliber of team will be hard for Holston to overcome. Good luck to both teams!

VHSL places Grundy in Group A Black Diamond District and denies John Battle's request to move to the HOGO.

I would imagine that there would be a lot of veteran, qualified coaches that would be interested in the Richlands job if it were to come open. Johnson has not been very successful at PH, so it would be a long shot for him to get it.
-
I agree that the Clintwood/JIB contest will be the best. The first meeting went out 28-18, but Clintwood garnered a late score to make the game appear closer than it was. Clintwood is a well coached football team and is healthy heading into the contest. The Raiders, well they are beat up to say the least. They had numerous injuries heading into the St. Paul game and came out with 2 more, so this game will be a good one. While Clintwood is more than capable of beating the Raiders, I'm going with Burton 28-24.
-
Is there a new address, or has the site been shut down?
-
Giles is also having some injuries pop up on them. I think a PV-Giles matchup would be a good one.
-
Powell Valley beats Honaker....Honaker is too one-dimensional and PV has too much speed on offense.
Lebanon and Gate City will be a great match-up. You can forget about the lopsided game early in the season because Gate City is much improved. However, Gate City's win over Burton may give them "false hope" because the Burton team that was on the field Friday night would have had trouble obtaining 5 wins all season. I'm going with Lebanon 28-21.
Powell Valley will win Region D D2 because they are experienced on the turf and will use it to their advantage.
-
I have heard that the jamboree at Norton will include Burton, J.J. Kelly, Lebanon and William Campbell. Can anyone confirm this? If this is true, it will be worth attending.
-
1. Burton
2. PV
3. Clintwood
4. JJK
5. Appy
6. Pound
Cedric is going to be at QB. Lawson may see some time there, but the job is Cedric's. Burton is still the favorite in the district because they nobody has knocked them off yet and PV has as many o-line issues as Burton does. I look forward to this season as Clintwood will field a good team also. I will say that PV has a tough schedule (with the exception of the Thomas Walker game) and that could help them gain an advantage over Burton...only time will tell.
-
I wasn't saying that PV didn't have "opportunities" to score, but what I was saying is it did not matter because their offense couldn't handle the raider defense.
-
I happened to attend the Burton and PV game this year. I don't know if you can say they lost due to "missed opportunities". They could not move the ball against the Burton defense. Aside from a SPECTACULAR throw and catch for a TD....NOTHING! That's why they lost the game.
-
It's the post-season and I am sure that the coaching staff at Burton is well aware that both games they have played could have gone either way. However, if Burton brings its A game and RR brings its A game, Burton wins.
-
I don't see this one being a shoot-out unless RR scores a few late tds against the Burton reserves. The Burton starting defense has only allowed 3 scores the entire season. Burton wins 42-14.

I noticed that Rural Retreat beat George Wythe badly on Friday night, and the same GW team was only beat 14-0 by Lebanon. Has Rural Retreat improved that much since the beginning of the season?, or did Lebanon play poorly against GW?

Look for Lebanon to play inspired tomorrow night as well. Yesterday, Kenneth "Fish" Ferguson, the voice of the Pioneers for decades passed away suddenly. Our prayers are with his family and friends.
