Should be an interesting game. Graham's defense reminds me of the "Havoc" defense of VCU. They create a lot of turnovers and get a lot of buckets off of the turnovers. Bluefield is similar and puts on a lot of defensive pressure as well. The team that consistently gets the ball past mid-court will probably win this one. Should be fun to watch, can't wait.

On a side note... Now some of you guys may understand the frustration when a kid "quits" his team to "transfer" to another one after playing for them for years and years.

Very good point. There are many good coaches who have applied for this job. Colobro would certainly do a good job. How far away is he from retirement, however? How long would he coach anyway? I have a different take on this, I believe Tazewell needs a younger coach who will be there for a while to build some stability. If Tazewell only has 30 kids coming out for football, it won't matter who the coach is for the first couple of years.... nobody should expect them to be playoff contenders for at least 3 or 4 seasons.

Kids get interested in other things. They get tired of having practice every day. They are kids first and foremost. I don't blame them for taking time away from sports. They have one more semester of school before they graduate. They have colleges to apply for.. Scholarships and financial aid to try to get. So what if us old codgers don't get to see them play basketball? I quit a team one time and told the coach while he was screaming at me where he could stick his whistle.. I didn't need an adult screaming at me . I had better things to do .. It wasn't fun anymore.

Odd considering interviews haven't taken place yet.

At this point in 2A in the West I'd have to go with.. 1. Gate City 2. Martinsville 3. Dan River 4. Graham 5. Richlands 4 and 5 may switch. Would like to see how they match up with each other. Graham's defensive pressure is relentless. However, Richlands is bigger and has a more physical presence. If Richlands can break the press, they will cause Graham problems. Graham can also get out in transition easily and are a very unselfish team. I saw these guys when they played in JV and thought they would be a special group because of how they share the ball and force turnovers. Morgan will be missed... I think he returns in mid-january or so.... but Graham is pretty tough to beat with basically 4 guards and a center on the court. They fly around and get in the passing lanes. Like I said, however a team with good size and the ability to break the press will give them problems.

Honaker is an o.k. team, but I wasn't overly impressed when I saw them scrimmage. As far as the team being "tired"... that's an excuse. If it were a group of 40 year old men playing 4 games in 4 days, maybe....

Well, out of the 8 dressed for varsity, I think there was a freshman and a couple of sophomores (maybe 3) and I believe another freshman or sophomore on the bench that didn't dress.

Not unless they can get some more speed onto the field.... That was a big factor in the outcome of last season, I thought.

And talk is cheap when the story is good...

fixed it. But in all seriousness, it's not going to happen on either front. I'd love to see these schools develop what they have like most schools have to do and see how they build the program and bring their own skill players along.

Narrows is going to the Pioneer District.... James River is going to the Three Rivers District... That should make the Pioneer an entirely 1A district and the Three Rivers District an entirely 2A district...

They are in a budget crisis, will have to take him between 2:00 and 4:00... "happy hour".

Graham played subs the entire 4th quarter, from what I heard.

This is for any job...not just coaching. The interview by Committee is not mandatory, but the advertisment of the job and interview process is, as far as I know. I heard they will interview by committee, but it was 2nd hand information, so take it for what it's worth. I'm Sure they will find the right person for the job, but for some of these folks to think that they can just come over and start working right away is pretty far fetched. If they have another job, they are under-contract until the end of the school year. Not likely that they can just break their contract and come work for another school system right away. Maybe the school system they are with will be generous enough to do that, but I doubt it. They will have a job to fill as well.... Patience is needed here. Hope they get a good one.
