Hacker reacted to sixcat in Worst Managed NFL Franchises
Daniel Snyder and Washington have to be first with a bullet!  They are not only a downtrodden organization but they are bringing down other organizations as well.  Failure to address the nickname of the organization has caused government to suspend the NFL's tax exempt status, thus causing organizations like Jacksonville and Cleveland to have less money to not spend on talent.

Whether you agree or disagree, it is an issue for the entire league.

Bold prediction TCU & Baylor both get in when Georgia Tech beats FSU on Sat.

Shoot just to double down Arizona gets Oregon on Sat. as well.

That would blow things up real good.

Virginia at Virginia Tech (11). Loser leaves town? With a moving van? Two embattled coaches with 5-6 records, both seeking to become bowl eligible. Cavaliers coach Mike London would appear to be less in control of his destiny than longtime Hokies boss Frank Beamer, but neither fan base is happy.
    When: 8 p.m. ET Friday.

Hate meter: The enmity is alive and well, though neither side can be cocky in the grand scheme of things. Thomas Jefferson’s university has the classic, We Were Here First You Uncultured Heathen outlook on the old ag-and-mechanical cow college. The response from Blacksburg is to dislike the perceived arrogance of the entitled prepwads in Charlottesville. Some Virginia fans expressed there-goes-the-neighborhood dismay when Virginia Tech was allowed to join the ACC.

Prestige meter: Virginia is tied for 23rd in the U.S. News rankings. Virginia Tech is tied for 71st.

Upper hand lately: It’s been Hokie ownage. They’ve won 10 straight, a span of ownership now stretching more than 3,000 days – something plenty of Tech fans can tell you off the top of their head.

Upper hand historically: Tech leads the all-time series 53-37-5.

Trinket: the Commonwealth Cup is a handy bit of hardware. It’s a four-foot tall whopper, but the useful part is the silver cup that can be detached and used to drink the sweet nectar of victory postgame. Which is something Virginia Tech is quite accustomed to doing.

Pick: Virginia 16, Virginia Tech 14. The nightmare losing streak ends at 10 for the ‘Hoos.

I have used many different things (beer bottles, silverware, fireworks, etc.) as a microphone to sing Don't Stop Believin'. Never have I thought to use a goose with a hat on.

UVA claims to be one of the nation's top universities. This student certainly pulled his weight to make that true.

Now history may prove me wrong, but the way the press is going on about Ebola, you would think we all were going to die tomorrow.  I do wish people would chill and the crackpots who are saying that Obama is responsible and this is the first step in implementing martial law, or that Bill Gates and George Soros are behind it would just be quiet.

Yes, Ebola is a horrible disease that kills 70% of those infected with it, but the odds of me getting it are low.  That is unless I have direct contact with the bodily fluids of someone with Ebola.  Living in SWVA, there is not a high probability of that happening, maybe 1 in a billion.

There are greater health risks to me.  I could get bitten by a shark, or have a stroke climbing Mt. Everest.

Fielding percentage by itself is only half of the equation.  A shortstop with limited range can have a great fielding percentage and still be a liability.  Jeter and Ripkin weren't going to mishandle most of the balls they got to, there were just a lot of balls they could not get to.  Smith and Omar Vizquel (sp) would get to balls that neither of the others could dream of fielding.  They ate up a ton of balls that would have been hits against the Yankees or Os in Jeter and Ripkin's careers.

Not a criticism of either, just a reality of the game.

Hacker reacted to GMan in Bluefield @ Richlands
1-  Graham was a different team when they played Bluefield.  A lot of Graham's TDs came while picking on a kid who was playing his first game at the high school level.  That young man has gotten a lot better in the last four weeks.  Graham, on the other hand, is not as good as they were in the pre-season or Game 1.  Bluefield got Graham's best shot, Richlands got a Graham team that was down and had zero confidence.  I also think that the younger Simon, who was coaching the Beavers during the Graham game, was letting Graham score so Bluefield could score more...seriously think he wanted to hang 80 on Graham regardless of how many points Graham scored.

2-  Bluefield's defense looks "weaker" than it really is:  a)  See #1, and b) a lot of the points scored on Bluefield, especially in the last two games, were scored in the second half, after the game was decided, and after the Beavers began putting some subs in on defense.

3-  You can't teach speed and Bluefield has plenty...

4-  You worry about slowing the speed on the corners and they'll steamroll you with a huge FB who isn't slow...

5-  Bluefield throws the ball just enough that if you are worried about the run, you'll get burned with the pass...

6-  Richlands has improved as the season has gone on but I think Bluefield wins this one by a couple of TDs or more...

Readin', Writin' and Route 23.  The Dwight Yoakum song is still applicable.  Sadly, those that exploited the resources and the people have already moved on, and we are on our own.

Don't let the slogans fool you.  We are not affected equally by coal's down turn.  The companies are diversifying and moving into other areas (fracking for gas.) and will leave us in the lurch.

    Quick observations:

That TE for Chilhowie is a weapon.  That kind of size and soft hands are impressive.  Tazewell could not cover that drag route all night.

The Tazewell defense suffered because of the offense's success.  When you score quickly, the D never gets much chance to catch it's breath.  Chilhowie ran almost three times as many offensive plays as Tazewell.

You could be correct!  QB's with an ability to run give Fosters defenses nightmares.  There QB averages 15 yards per carry!  Additionally, they have a WR that runs some wildcat type stuff and averages 35 yards per carry.  They have a potent offense.  The key will be how VT rebounds offensively.  I expect a high scoring game that is much closer than it probably should be.

My daughters and I will be at the game supporting my wife.  She is an alumni and former Marching Virginian and will be on the field for the 40th anniversary celebration.

C'mon now boys!  These are good times in the history of VT football.

Look no further back than the 1970's if you want "hard times"...that is when my VT fandom began.  Being that my uncle and his best friend always went to the best friend's brother's place in Blacksburg every weekend, I was well aware of VT football as early as '72 or '73, in the days of Don Strock.  Went to my first game in 1978, a "Hail Mary" TD pass as time expired for VT to beat William & Mary.  I remember the "hard times"...

--17-16 loss to William & Mary in 1972
--Losses to both William & Mary and VMI and a 77-6 trouncing at the hands of Alabama in 1973...highlight of the 2-9 season: VT 27 UVA 15
--Another loss to VMI in 1974
--Losses to William & Mary and Richmond in 1976
--Wins over VMI, William & Mary and Wake and a 14-14 tie with UVA to finish off a 3-7-1 season
--Only 3 winning seasons the entire decade: 8-3, 6-4-1, 6-5

I am older than dirt, and was whooped many times.  I was also beaten once or twice.  There is a clear difference. My grandmother whipped me with a switch, I was whipped with a belt.  I was beaten with a belt and once with a garden hose.

The difference for me was intent and severity.  I was whipped for things I deserved, usually two or three swats and done.  I was beaten for things that I may or may not have deserved and there was no intent to teach a lesson.  Beatings left welts and lasted longer.  The purpose of a beating is to relieve the rage of the beater.

I do no object to whippings, but hate beatings.
