  1. From what i put on the LPD board I have zero concerns that Kelly's defense will play well Friday night. What we have to eliminate is bonehead flags and turnovers on the offensive side of the ball. PV will without a doubt be the best team/best defense we have faced to this point, and if we don't bring an A-game,we'll lose. I really hope both squads play well and we all get our money's worth. Like I said at the start of the year,Clintwood is the team to beat with JJK,PV,and JIB on equal footing in a race for second, but a win Friday night at PV with a team picked to finish 5th and rebuilding would really go a long way towards the continuation of the program-building at Kelly. __________________
  2. Way off base on JJK friend. We have been the sloppiest 6-0 team in the state, and have been nowhere near fundamentally sound as we need to be (that must change Friday night or we'll be 6-1). Turnovers and senseless flags have allowed teams on our slate to hang around. As for explosive/power backs, Brandon Osborne has big play potential everytime he touches the ball, and adding Robert Smith to the backfield (kid hits hole fast and hard) has really given the TRIBE a shot to house it with each touch.
  3. Salem played tonight with 6 starters out via flu per WDBJ. That kinda sheds some light on it.
  4. Typical Kelly-RC game with JJK giving the Eagles plenty of help (don't know why we have history of being flat with these guys). 2 TDs called back, 4 turnovers, 3 personal foul flags..etc,but considering that the kids were coming off bye week, and dealing with the off-field situation,we'll surely take the win. Tribe took a knee at the Rye Cove 1 to end the game (really like when we do that-liked it at PH earlier this year, and liked it tonight). I thought the defense played pretty well, especially with the spots we put em in. No doubt with the stretch run coming,we'll have to be better than tonight, but awfully glad to see the kids get the win,and proud of them. J.J. Kelly 29, Rye Cove 14 J.J. Kelly’s Brandon Osborne ran for 200 yards and entered paydirt three times as the Indians ran all over Rye Cove. Rye Cove got touchdowns from Zach Wilson off a 16-yard pass from Chase Rollins and added a 2-yard run Patrick Fritz, but Kelly racked up 452 yards rushing as a team to secure the win.
  5. I'm not saying this because my son is on this squad Stripes, but this is the most close-knit Kelly team that I have ever seen. If you see one out,you usually see the others hanging out with them. Thank you all for the kind words (certainly are appreciated).
  6. Andrew Nash,a junior Tight end on the Kelly football team will suit up for the Tribe just a week after seeing his dad murdered in his own home. I lost my dad violently at 17 so I really feel this young man's pain, and know his is worse,as he saw his dad lose his life. This week has really been tough on the kids from J.J.Kelly,and here's hoping that a little football tomorrow on The Reservation (homecoming) will at least bring a smile for a little while. please keep this fine young man and his family in your thoughts and prayers. He really is a quality young man.
  7. Powell Valley at Norton will be much better than CW drilling Lebanon
  8. I think we'd all pay 100 bucks a seat to see Richlands play Christiansburg this year. Best 2 teams in the state hands down IMO. With J.J.Kelly open next Friday,I am thinking of catching Northside-Salem. That one is going to be colossal.
  9. Powell Valley. Most were saying they'd go 2-8 but I knew better than that. The Vikes are 2-1 with the loss to the team who will thump everybody in this area.
  10. Burton has lost once in last 5yrs at home, and that was to the Kelly Indians last year. The winning continued tonight as the Falcons go down. PLEASE don't get pumped after beating PH. We are in total rebuild mode at JJK,picked 5th in the LPD and was up 39-0 tonight before halftime at Patrick Henry.
  11. To say that it's ok to do that because the kids from Grundy took it personal doesn't make it right though friend, and you know that (had it been anybody other than your boys doing it,you'd say as much). Tonight we were up 39-0 vs Patrick Henry at halftime, and subs coming in and starters out the entire 2nd half. Up 45-14 with our backups in at the PH 1 yd line with seconds left, and we take a knee. That's the way it is supposed to be done. What you do to folks comes back to you in time. You'd think that as many beatings that the Wave have taken over the last few years (much like we were taking them also),that this is the last thing you'd see Grundy do.
  12. Twin Valley beating anybody 38-0. Wow! I know Montcalm is terrible, but ouch!

    Score?

Did Man win it's final game today?
  14. You can measure the size of a school, and you can measure speed,talent,size,athletes..etc. What you cannot measure is the human heart and a young man's work ethic. Man oh man, that stuff can sure close the gap can't it ? (ask the folks at Appy who brought it home so many times under Tom Turner with small,scrappy,badly-outnumbered teams). Holston does not have the athletes that Norton has (nor did Kelly),but when you have young men of character who will go above and beyond/walk the extra mile for their coach, then good things will happen. That is what's happening at J.J.Kelly with Coach Salyers, and it's happening at Holston with Coach Matlock.
  15. Kids flat out played their butts off. What a job Jason Matlock is doing in Damascus. Respect isn't something that is given-it's something that is earned. Norton missed so many opportunities, but I have to give mad respect to that Holston defense. Those guys were flat out stout today, and they sure made a believer out of me. Raiders: defense wins championships, and today the Raider defense (my co-worker's son Riley Maggard was huge with a pick,as well as blocking the FG to win it) saved the day. Folks can rag on the LPD all they want, but the bottom line is they have a team playing for the state title in yet another year. No other distric around here can claim that (although I really hope the CMD joins us tomorrow with a Lebanon win-will say alot about these 2 districs). Congrats Raiders-bring the bling home next week. Congrats Holston, and keep your heads up. You have nothing at all to be ashamed of today. Tough ballgame between two very tough teams.
  16. A reminder: Game is here: http://www.waxm.com/ Let's follow it here
  17. Yep-coming from an Indian fan. Beating you guys is sweet, because as any true Indian fan should,I loathe you guys...EXCEPT when it comes post-season time,as you guys are carrying the banner for the LPD. Give 'em hell boys and show 'em what it's all about today. Hammer the Cavs and leave no doubt. Also a big shout out to the kids from Lebanon: Guys after the heartbreak vs Floyd last year, today you can show why athletics are so dang special. Redemption time Pioneers. I would love to see you all win state (and would pull heartily for Holston if they upset the Raiders). We get such a bad and unfair rep from the ignorants upstate. It's always so sweet to shove a shatburger down their gullets. Best of luck to our locals today, and ring the damn bell!
  18. Congrats Beavers. You guys left no doubt. Man I love seeing locals win it all!
  19. Norton's got a heckuva chunk of coal in Miles, and the Southside Scooter is going to be a diamond tomorrow. LPD PRIDE-GO RAIDERS!!!
  20. 181 yds on just 17 carries isn't a bad day's work,is it?
  21. He has blazing speed and can stop on a dime. Everytime he touches the football it scares you to death. Head over there and watch him Saturday. I promise you he's worth the price of admission.
  22. Martinez Miles is the best athlete Holston will ever see. Beating Burton? Stop Miles and you win. That's alot easier said than done (although JJK and PV did manage to contain him to a respectable level). Way too much speed for Holston. Raiders win 28-14.
