  1. It is amazing what good coaching can do. Just 4 years ago 0-11. Now a conference title, and an invitation to the big Division 2 dance. Also three winning seasons back to back to back. Good coaches bring in good players, and the staff in Athens have several local players on the roster. Around 4,000+ fans showed up for the championship game which I'm sure made the big win even sweeter. In case you missed the game CU defeated WV Wesleyan 48 to 40 in a great game. Now they face Kutztown University (PA) in round one at Kutztown. Good Luck CU players and staff.
  2. Good to hear from you again Leonard, not much news down this way. Just hoping that the CNX gasline people bring a few needed players to the Slate Creek Crawldads. Just wunderin what type of fertilizer do you use on Yukon Gold spuds?
  3. The Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, the Germans bombed England.
  4. Congrats to Coach Kellar and staff for the biggest turn around in college football. Not to long ago the laughing stock of football, now has quietly put together a strong team. Last years squad was 6-5, this years team is currently 6-2 and looking to get a few more W's befor this season is over. With 3 games to go and 2 at home who knows what could happen.
  5. Can,t wait for the Velvetta after the Mad Dog. Did Boise beat them twice in one week? They'll be a lot of whining after this. Will VT become the next whine & cheese school? Please no excuses take it like a man.
  6. You are exactly correct. Nice to have a program taking the area players that can play. I hope to see them play a few times this year.
  7. Why does the great state of West Virginia operate two schools of higher learning in Mercer County? I can't figure this one out. Combine BSC with CU and have something great for all. CU is having trouble housing all of the students that want to attend, while BSC can hardly afford to keep the lights burning, and as posted earlier has no where to expand. If you could funnel the monies going BSC to CU, they could make a University of Southern West Virginia and maybe move to FCS football and D1 basketball and all the other sports. That would give us sports fans another venue to see some quality play.
  8. For years (decades really) sports fans have made fun of UVA athletics for crying around when a decision didn't go there way. Some folks thought it was because of the law school there, they where just looking to make excuses. Verbage with an old english feel ranks high marks at Tommy J's school. Now the school that Frank B. built, misses an opportunity to get dusted in the second round, (if they can make it there to the second round of the big dance) everyone is crying spilled milk. I just had to make a cow comment since it was Vet Tech. They are sounding like the wahoos of old, but they need more practice. So keep practicing and maybe UConn will put you hokies out in the second round of the nit and you can cry some more.
  9. Just wanted to know if there are any ballers in the area that can play at the next level. Division 1, FCS, Division 2, NAIA or Division 3.
  10. It's all crap until they actually align teams by enrollment and stick to it. If the cutoff is lets say 1-400 for A, 401-800 for AA, 801-1200 AAA, 1201-1600 AAAA, 1601 and up AAAAA. If you have 803 students you're school is AAA. Don't whine, don't complain, make it black & white and have a set to put the smackdown on all the "exceptions". Make the number of teams eligible for playoffs uniform in all divisions and regions. And let the best teams win in a fair system.
  11. Very true, in some places it is motivation.
  12. I agree. I also feel that sometimes the sportswriters demoralize some of the palyers by predicting scores. Most of the players work on a game plan all week to try and perform on friday night. When you are picked to be shut out or otherwise slobber-knocked in the press it really hurts. Just pick the winnners no scores.
  13. At this point even Phil Fulmer looks good. He picked up a bunch of good players from the Commonwealth during his tenure at UT.
  14. I don't know if Grundy has a chance at beating Richlands, but this might be the first year in sometime that the BIG BLUES will have to actually prepare for this game.
  15. Congrats to all CU players, coaches and administration for bringing in the right man for the job. Coach Mike Kellar and his staff have transformed everyones homecoming opponent into a team to be proud of. Todays win against Fairmont State University gives the MTN LIONS a winning season. Six wins to some programs would be a travesty, but to CU fans and alumni it is like winning the Super Bowl. A once proud program is finally getting back to respectability. Coach Kellar is getting it done with mostly players that have been there prior to his hiring, coaching does make a difference (just ask any UVA fan). Some of the great news is that he is contacting local schools about players. Maybe Coach Colobro has given him a hint about winning with some area players. Again congratulations on a winning season, hopefully the first of many to come.
  16. Finally something positive about hardwork, dedication and Grundy in the same thought. For the past few years Grundy and Buchanan County are always alligned with corruption. I respect the program at Grundy and the people involved with it. Some of the people around here want to drop down to win more titles, I love the underdog roll that we have and wish we could use it more for motivation. I'm really looking forward to the feature film, and hopefully another title.
  17. I don't know if it is smoke and mirrors or is Coach Kellar a miracle worker? Five weeks into the season they have had a national player of the week, and a couple of conference players of the week. Last couple of seasons they couldn't stop a tricycle, and it would have taken at least 3 plays to score with no one on the field. I just hope they keep up the good work.
  18. James is about to open up a big can of whoop. I see this game as a coming out party for the Tigers. They have played a brutal first three, and now are playing same size schools. It does make a difference, you do not see the Salem Spartans looking for a game with Oscar Smith do ya.
  19. Al Groh must go, Al Groh must go, Al Groh must go......
  20. 120 applicants? The economy must be far worse than I thought. I'm sure CU will pay less than the greeter at your local Wal-Mart. You would have to be a gambler to put in an application, just in hope that you could turn it around and climb the ladder of coaching success = $$$$.
  21. It took Seton Hill three years to win the conference, U of Charleston was competative in three years. Whomever takes over needs some time, and local support to be successful. The new coach needs to BRING IN AS MANY LOCAL PLAYERS FROM THE TWO VIRGINIAS AS POSSIBLE. When Coach Broyles called the offense I believe they won 4 or 5 titles, and as a QB there he was part of 2 or 3 more. Coach Colobro of GC would have instant credability on his resume. Not to mention his father is a legend in Southern West Virginia football. Coach Simon another good cadidate.
  22. I hope that the man they choose has some local ties to the area. Under the leadership of Colobro and Williams, championships came to the Mountain Lions. The last few coaches they had thought recruiting out of state, and the area would bring wins. It didn't workout. Regardless of whom is chosen they will take over a pathetic program. Success will take time, but they can get better.
  23. Grundy beat Richlands two times in 1995, and beat them 48-0 in 1996.
  24. Give the rebs a break. Who do you want them to play, Southern California or maybe the Cornhuskers of Nebraska. They play schools of equal enrollment.
  25. Tommy is trying really hard to get his players to believe in what he is preaching. Dave has all of his ducks in a row, with two weeks to prepare for the panthers. Dave by a can of corn.
