This right here. RG3 won the Heisman and played in the Alamo Bowl. Johnny Manziel won it and didn't play for a natty. Hell Tim Tebow won the Heisman in a season where he didn't win the natty. Chuck Howley won Super Bowl V MVP and the Cowboys lost.
Don't forget Jerry West won the 1969 NBA Finals MVP when the Lakers fell to the Celtics also!
A loss tonight would complete the first 0-10 season in Blue Tornado history. The 1937 Blues went 0-7-1 and the 1970 Blues went 0-9-1 but Richlands has never lost each game it has played.
If Graham scores 15 points, this years Richlands team would be the most scored on team in Richlands history. (2013 Richlands currently holds that but also played 13 games as opposed to 10)
A loss to Graham would be the Blues 12th consecutive loss which ties the school record for most losses in a row. The Blues lost 12 in a row from 1960-1961.
Graham has won the last seven in the series.
103rd meeting between the Blues and G-Men dating back to 1926. Graham holds a 57-39-5 advantage.
IINM, I read that Baker only played 7 games in 2012 before getting hurt, as well.
That is correct. He and Ben Brown split time at QB in that first game in 2012 against Gate City before Baker ultimately took the reigns against Union, Graham, Pulaski, Patrick Co, Honaker and Marion. He was injured in that Honaker game and then the knee gave way in practice leading up to Carroll County.
Despite the occasional transfer before '09, the arrival of Johnsons clearly ushered in a new era. It was from that point forward where multiple transfers were making significant contributions. For example, a transfer was Richlands' QB-1 for like 4 of 5 seasons from '09 to '13 with Cody Johnson (Big Creek), Cody Lockhart (Tazewell), and Gray Baker (Graham). With Devon Johnson at RB/LB from '09 to '11 and others, this was clearly a different era from the virtually homegrown '05 to '07 teams.
Although Baker was going to be the starter in '13, he was injured in the benefit game and it was River Michaels was ultimately the quarterback for all 13 games in 2013.
For the historical aspect that everyone is talking about:
Richlands has went winless two times in school history. The 1937 Blues went 0-7-1. The 1970 Blues went 0-9-1. Richlands has never finished a regular season 0-10.
Richlands is currently on a 10 game losing streak dating back to the David Crockett game a season ago. It is the longest losing streak the Blue Tornado has had since it lost the final four games of the 1960 season and the first eight games of the 1961 season--a 12 game losing streak that is the longest in RHS history.
As for the series with Marion, Richlands holds a 46-17-1 advantage in a matchup that dates back to 1930. Marion has not won since 2017. Dating back to 2001, Richlands holds a 20-2 record in the matchup.
If Richlands loses to Virginia High on Friday, it will be its ninth consecutive loss. The longest losing streak for the Blues since they opened the 1969 season with nine consecutive losses.
Really appreciate @Bluefield researcher's handiwork in making all this info so accessible.
