  1. Unfortunately, I'm starting to get the feeling that barring a coaching change, this is going to be normal in Welch.
  2. PV is a lot better this year than last. And it seems that they are still getting a feel for the new offense, if they get that clicking pretty well, they could make a run at the playoffs this year. Looking at their schedule, it seems like it's pretty favorable as well. I've honestly got no feel for how good JM is this year. Last year they looked much worse in the PV game and still got a favorable draw in the playoffs and made a run to the semis. The one thing about this years team that seems to be lacking is there is no real playmaker stepping up yet. Beasley, Thompson, and Ballangee have all had good moments, but at the moment they don't have the big offensive threat. Defensively they're playing pretty well, although they are making some silly mistakes here and there. Should learn a lot more about them next week when Scott comes to Lindside. Overall, it was a good game to watch, and it's really kind of neat to see Pikeview improving the way they are. Damewood is doing a really nice job with them.
  3. Got to see Concord tonight, man, what a difference coaching can make. Looks nothing like the team from last year at all. Hope the qb for Concord, Grossi? is ok looked like they had that knee pretty well wrapped on the sideline. Don't know how many games they'll end up winning this year, but at least this year they should be very competitive with most of the teams on their schedule Also, was a good crowd for tonight, I was a little bit suprised at that. Overall, just a great night to watch a game, and a fun game to watch.
  4. Wow, that's a cool site Mountainman, glad you turned me on to it, I'll definitely order the Why old time DVD. When my dad was still alive he was really pretty close to "T-baby" so that would be a really cool thing to see. I would be really interested in the Giles football doc as well, if done right it would be an awesome thing to see.

Good luck with that one, I'm guessing that's always a tough road trip.
  6. I have no idea what WMU is supposed to have this year, but in the parts of the game that I saw, Michigan looked much, much improved over last year. The two frosh QB's both bring a lot more to the table than I expected from true freshmen. The biggest difference to me for them though was defensively. They look 100% improved on that side of the ball as well.

Whose up next for you guys?

I agree with you completely, I hope Giles recovers from this and has a good season. You're a Richlands guy right? Sounds like you guys are off to another good season. Hope to see you make another deep run this year.
  9. I think we'll have a much better read on how good ND is going to be after this weeks game against Mich. The Wolverines looked much improved over last year, esp. at the QB position and on the defensive side of the ball. If ND handles them easily, then I can see them making a run, though I really don't see them beating USC.

I don't disagree with anything you wrote. The only thing I disagree with is putting that burden entirely on the players in this case. As I said, the players and the coaches BOTH seemed to quit. Like I said, I've been watching Giles play for years, the teams I've watched over the years were hard-nosed and kept coming after you no matter the score, and no matter whether they were outclassed talent wise or not. That started to slip last year a bit, and this year in the game I saw it was basically gone. The only major difference between the teams I've watched for years compete their tails off win or lose, and the teams of the last two years is on the sideline......so that's where I draw my conclusions at.

I have no idea what the inner workings of the team are. But looking in from the outside that's what it looks like....and in your opinion is the coach not responsible at all for motivating the players?

Fair enough, but strange that a "fighting spirit" was never lacking during the Ragsdale years, no matter what the talent.

Yeah, not a Giles fan at all, just went to the B'burg game to see the teams play. And sorry, by the end of the third quarter it looked pretty obvious that nobody on the Giles side was showing any emotion whatsoever, they were just going through the motions. Been watching Giles games for years as either a neutral observer or an opposing fan when JM used to play them regularly. I've seen the talent be there, and I've seen it when it wasn't. But trust me when I tell you I've NEVER seen what I saw at that Blacksburg game. The players just seemed to quit, and at best the coaches just seemed resigned to that fact.

May just be a temporary blip on the radar for Giles. But there are some serious problems this year in Pearisburg. There just seems to be no enthusiasm from the players this year, and when they got down against B'burg it really looked like for the most part that they just quit, players and coaches. Granted, they played 2 very solid AA programs, teams that they probably should have lost to. The way they lost the games should really concern the Giles fans though.
  15. Don't know what they're like now, but a few years ago Mt. Mission had a bball team that would've been very competitive with the SWC schools. They're usually very guard heavy and play an up and down style, not much size usually.
  16. From what i've read so far, they haven't found a weapon, which makes murder/suicide very unlikely.
  17. Wasn't the reported crowd at the Pulaski/Salem regular season game last year huge as well? I can't remember the exact number, but I'm sure it was over 10k
  18. As per a post on Va. Preps website. Start times for tomorrow will be announced shortly
  19. How many guys does Giles have out this year? I know the numbers last year were a little down.
  20. Giles sounds freaking huge. What time is the scrimmage at Princeton Sat.?
  21. Quiet confidence maybe? Don't know why there hasn't been much chatter on here about them, but from what I've been hearing, I'm very interested in seeing what their offense looks like this year. They're obviously going to be very, very good again this year, gotta have them as one of the two or three favorites in AA.
  22. Oh, I agree money is definitely the deciding factor. I just didn't know how BC was doing financially after the move. I knew the ACC pays better to the schools than the BE, but I didn't know if all the added travel and stuff for BC was draining the difference at all.
