  1. [ QUOTE ] Lloyd Carr retires at Michigan, Dennis Franchione resigns from Texas A&M, and Bill Callahan was just fired at Nebraska. Who's next? And who will replace these guys? As I said in another post a few weeks ago, I think Bo Pelini (the LSU Def. Coordinator) is probably at the top of the Nebraska list...although after listening to Tom Osborne's presser, not real sure how many coaches will want the challenge of coaching at Nebraska. Osborne said what he expects from the head football coach is what was expected of him...said he was almost lost his job after going 9-3, 9-2-1, 10-2, and 9-3-1 in his first four seasons. He was told after winning their bowl game at the end of his fourth season that if Nebraska had not won that game he would have been fired. High expectations for whomever they hire. [/ QUOTE ] Nebraska's expectations are ridiculous!! I know that there is a lot of money flowing into Nebraska from some high donors, but I had no idea there is so much that the alumni demand that no coach lose more then half a game on average every year!! There must be a lot of money in corn!! Corn usually just runs through me!!
  2. Is there any for fans in the Bluefield area this year? I remember in past years there has been a local network that carried the AA ship. I never watched it as I was in Wheeling when the game was going on in the past, but I can't make it up this year to Wheeling.
  3. [ QUOTE ] Tazewell? they made it that far? [/ QUOTE ] That year (2004) they did. Beat Graham and Virginia High along the way in the first two rounds. They had four losses in the regular season. G-man and I had a bet for that game. He said that Gretna would win by no less then five TD's (35 pts). I took the under. Final was 55-28.
  4. I thought that the BCS put a "tweak" in the system after Nebraska got to play Miami in '01 that you have to win your conference before you can play in the national championship game. Nebraska didn't even play in the Big 12 championship game that year and got blown out by Miami in the MNC.
  5. I didn't say that Salem gets all the talent, but they go after it.
  6. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Groh converted Hall, the Virginia all-time touchdown passer to cornerback. I disagree strongly with that change, but I'm not paid $1.7 million to coach the team. In my opinion, Hall much better on offense, perhaps as a HB/WR hybrid; he's downright explosive when he gets the ball in his hand. Hall's learning curve at cornerback has been slower than anticipated, but he's making strides a bit at a time. He caught his first career interception in the Miami game, and very nearly another in the third quarter. [/ QUOTE ] i def agree but with his height at 5'9 there are few given a chance to play QB at that level even tho i believe he would be a great QB in a spread . . . [/ QUOTE ] Hagans was the same size as Hall if I remember correctly and there was questions why Hall was moved to defense. Hagans did pretty well as an undersized qb. He practically beat F$U all by himself a couple of years ago. Like uvaobserver said, we are not paid $1.7m to coach the team.
  7. "well i wanna i see ohio state and lsu play... any chances of that happening?" If you set it up on your Playstation.
  8. G-man is getting as many friendly responses on this board these days as a Palestinian does walking into Jerusalem!!
  9. Bluefield, Richlands, Graham, ect. do not recruit kids to come play for them from other schools in the area that I have heard. Even if they played together in Pop Warner. Kids transfer in and out and all the schools in the SWVA have experienced that, but at the players’ own wish. Their parents are not coerced about getting their kids to play at a different school in the area. I work with Salem alumni and they all say the same thing, that Salem talks parents into moving so they can get their kids onto Salem football teams. One of them said when his son was playing for Byrd that Salem offered him an apartment in Salem because they wanted his son to play football for Salem. If someone has heard different then speak up.
  10. [ QUOTE ] hey dic* i was a wvu fan before rich even got there. I was pulling for them when Don Nelan coached there. When marc bulger played there. Or better yet when wes ours caught a swing pass and took it the distance to beat ole Miss in the bowl game. So if you think i am a band wagon jumper you can kiss my a**. I live in the heart of tech country and even when we sucked and went three and eight i was still there wearing my wvu stuff to school. So kiss my a** [/ QUOTE ] Kiss your mother with that mouth????
  11. What ever sentence the douche bag gets is not long enough.
  12. LOL Thanks! It is my official way of starting off the SWVA sports family Christmas season! LOL
  13. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] And tailgate together too!! LOL [/ QUOTE ] You know it!! See you at Mitchell on Friday night?? [/ QUOTE ] Unless I'm dead!
  14. And tailgate together too!! LOL
  15. You two beat me to it!!! LOL
  16. Hokie punter, Brett Bowden, has not had the best year punting and Beamer has kinda called off the dogs on the punt block a bit to set up the return. They have broken through on some, but Eddie Royal (15.8 yards per punt return & 21.3 yards per kick return) has another gear out there and his backups, Macho Harris & Josh Morgan, are pretty good too. Between them, they have four returns for touchdowns (including one that was called back.) 45.86 is an excellent average, but has he outkicked his coverage at all this year? I have not seen UVA play much this year. With the way the defenses are playing, both offenses may have trouble moving the ball and that is where I think turnovers and return yardage will be most important. Once again, I have not seen UVA play much this year, but I also not heard of them making plays on returns either. Jud Dunlevy for Virginia Tech is pretty solid in his own right for making kicks. 17-20 with a long of 52. Gould is 15-19 with a long of 51. Both kickers have proven themselves thus far. BTW, anyone know which team in NCAA DIV 1-A has the most interceptions since the year 2000? Give up? Virginia Tech. 18 already this year
  17. [ QUOTE ] This is a tough one to pick. Both defenses are playing well, and both offenses have sputtered a bit. Turnovers and special teams will decide this one. UVA 23 VT 20 [/ QUOTE ] No way UVA wins this game with special teams against Beamer! Turnovers maybe, but not special teams. Florida schools are about the only ones that can beat Beamer with special teams.
  18. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Anytime you play Salem at their place, it's an uphill battle. You have to deal with their team which is usually very good, as well as the zebras. Don't believe me, just ask Amherst from a couple of years ago. This old Martinsville Bulldog hopes Bassett stomps a mudhole in Salems rear end. [/ QUOTE ] i will second that.go bassett.shut up salem, were all sick of hearing about the spartans. [/ QUOTE ] Just think how good Bluefield, Graham, Richlands, ect. could be if they "stole" the best players from their counties the way Salem does in Roanoke County year after year. Everyone knows they do it and it's absurd that they are still allowed to do it.

  20. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] To my friend hokie07: I respect the fact that you have a fairly good reason why you support different schools, and you stick to your guns. Good form. However, the only thing I would wonder about is this: your three favorite teams can conceivably play one another at some point (in fact, North Carolina and Virginia Tech are forced to play one another). How would you divy your alliances then? That's my last point. [/ QUOTE ] It's easy, whoever is better! JUUUUST KIDDING! I stay true to North Carolina in basketball no matter who they play and I stay true to Virginia Tech no matter their situation in football. I do pull for both schools, respectively, in both of their weaker sports when they are not playing each other. (i.e. Virginia Tech in basketball and UNC in football.) [/ QUOTE ] You mean you don't talk sh@$ to yourself when you are watching your two favorite teams play each other???? lol I asked a WVU fan I know a couple of years ago if he was going to talk sh$& to himself while watching WVU play Kentucky in basketball since he loves both teams.
  21. Champ didn't win it, but his final college year stats were better then Woodson's were his final year at Michigan. Champ went against Ricky Williams that year for the trophy and Woodson won it against Manning his year. I wonder if Herschel Walker or Jim Thorpe will make the top 5 if Woodson is there at #11
  22. I believe I heard just a few years ago that Simon sent letters to every AAA and AA school in the state asking for a game and they would go to the opponet's place to play the game and he did not hear back from one school. Even last year in the Charleston Gazette, Simon was quoted about scheduling problems. It takes two to tango
  23. Has anyone been paying attention to this list done by ABC/ESPN? This past Saturday they listed Charles Woodson as #11. What a joke! I'll give the guy credit for leading Michigan to the National Championship '97, but to say he is was a better college player then Earl Campbell or Jim Brown is absurd! Archie Griffin won two Heisman awards and he is even listed behind Woodson. I would even think Champ Bailey might be worthy of a vote or two over Woodson. Obvious to see who was in the meeting room when this list was put together: Micky, Goofy, Donald, & Pluto from the parent company.
