  1. Abingdon/Bluefield would be an interesting matchup. Abingdon appears to have a solid passing game and I still believe that to be the beavers cryptonite. Gate city got the birds early. Could be a different ballgame if played again. Just have to watch the rest of the season and see how things pan out for the birds. Gotta give em credit. They aren't the same buzzards from recent years.
  2. When it was first posted it was a running line. Bland players fly to the ball and are very aggressive on both sides. Attrition and depth are obvious factors but I expect Bland to make it a game. Not ready to pick the bears to win but they will come to play.

  8. Congrats to the blues and all the"blowhards" out there. This was a game I wanted to see but wasn't able to get there. I bet against the blues in the pick em(with some serious doubt) but had a fuzzy feeling Mance and the men would bring the wood. A serious momentum builder heading into the second half the season. Hope the dogs show up next week ready to play.

  10. Bluefields offense will be difficult to contain. They block well for those speed demons who handle the ball. BUT, the beaver defense(while quick at every position) does not play physical or hard on every down. There will be some seams to throw the ball and the second and third tier of the defense do not tackle well(they cover ground and close fast). If Richlands can out physical Bluefield at the line they have a shot. As Ryan stated, control the ball and set the pace. Bluefield will score, but I like what the blues have shown the last 2 weeks. No prediction from me but I might drive down to watch what I feel may be the best game played in our area this year.

  15. I thought Graham played the pass fairly well considering that they appear undersized on the corners. I think they could have more success stopping the run if they pulled the outside LB's in and played off the line of scrimmage. When Tazewell's running backs got thru the line there were only 2 LB's there to contain them. Tazewell did a nice job of sealing them off most of the night. The G-men d-line looks solid(not fast but very quick/physical). There are also some kids that don't play defense that need to be out there. Graham has a tall/fast/physical wide receiver that could cover some field as a safety. I think the D scheme is fine(for the most part) but I would move some kids around to take advantage of their strengths.

  19. Covington likes to setup passes out of the single wing sets they run.
  20. Covington has some size on both lines as well as tons of speed. They have 2 very good receivers and a decent qb. They will try to run the read option out of the spread and a variation of the waggle. They also line up in single wing sets. If they get to the corner they are hard to catch. They do not tackle well but can pursue any play. Covington has very little depth. IMO they have the talent to win but are not coached well in some areas. James River had a lot of success passing the ball against them. They disrupted Covington's offense with well timed blitzes. Honaker should get the win.
  21. I've watched fort twice this year. By far the most balanced team I've witnessed this year and certainly capable of winning out. But both times I've witnessed the same holes in the defense. They are strong on the edges and pursue every play. A strong running team can exploit those weaknesses inside the tackles. They have small corners that play extremely soft coverage relying on pressure from the defensive front. With quick passes a team would have space to make plays before forts corners can make up the ground. Long developing pass plays will not work. #53 and #55 will get pressure. As for the total yards reference. The bulk of narrows' yards in the first half were achieved on the opening drive. Narrows has no line, but were able to put together a sustained drive by targeting the center. Drove it to the 2 yard line and could not punch it in. I fully expect Graham to lose in this matchup but there are some places where its possible for the gmen to make plays. They will not be able to stop forts running game. If by some chance they do forts qb is amazingly accurate and will pick them apart.
  22. I went over and watched the fort/narrows game(2nd time I've got a look at fort). While the score was completely lopsided I saw an undersized narrows team move the ball up and down the field by running into the heart of the fort defense. Several drives stalled in the redzone. I've already stated that fort will beat graham. However, I do think that the g-men can both run and pass on forts defense. I do not believe that graham can stop forts offense. They have a very accurate qb and 2 backs that run hard and smart. Forts line on both sides of the ball are huge and atheletic. Fort will sub liberally on defense and attack the ball, but they do have some holes. Are they beatable? Absolutely. Can the g-men win? Only if they control the clock and keep the ball out of forts offense's hands.
