  1. Patrick Co didn't beat MV this year either. Patrick was winless against district teams this year.
  2. Patrick Co 38 Martinsville 10, final score.
  3. Best game I ever saw from an offensive point of view was in 2002 Magna Vista vs. Franklin Co. Franklin won 52-51,MV went for 2 after their last score with about 5 minutes to go in the game but didn't convert.Nobody scored in the final 5 minutes(probably because of exhaustion)!!
  4. Wm Byrd and Martinsville both can play with the Cougars and Tunstall also could be interesting if they take them lightly. Harris could gain 400 yards against MV but probably won't because PC will playing on a short field all night because of Warrior turnovers. They are really bad. Look for PC to go 8-2 possibly 7-3(if they find any kind of passing game 9-1 is a good possibility.)
  5. Do not count Martinsville out of the Piedmont race. They have enough talent, if they can just keep from letting down in the 2nd half of games they could make some noise in the district.
  6. Patrick Co. 25 Bassett 24.. Final!!
  7. CPF, you are right, this is a terrible football team. They have scored only 3 TD's all year and 2 of them were when they were already down by 40 points our more. I'll give Favero credit though, he does have them playing hard all game long, just not enough talent to even be competitive. Reidsville could have scored 80 or 90 points against them Friday night if they had wanted to. Also,Mhsalum you are correct about losing players to other schools, but also some kids are just not playing anymore, kids who could help the program. When Coach Bateman and then Beckleheimer were there, you usually had 40-50 kids on the varsity and 30-40 on the jv team(school had 800-900 kids).Since consolidation(around 1200 kids now),they have had about 28 to 35 kids on the varsity and 25-30 on jv. 4 head coaches in 4 years has not helped this situation. Unless Favero has a magic wand I see no quick fix to this problem. Going from being in the playoffs almost every year to not hardly being able to score, well I'm sure it's hard on the folks down in Ridgeway. I know it was raining Friday night but I bet MV didn't have but about 150-175 fans in the stands.Mhsalum, great win over Halifax today. If the Dogs ever figure out how to play 4 quarters every game instead of 2 or 3 then they could be right in the thick of things in district play.
  8. I agree Magna Vista has no where to go but up,but a new coach is not going to make a difference this year or probably the next few years. The talent level fell way off after the 06 season and unless a whole lot of good talented kids transfer to MV this year they will be lucky to reach last years point total of 43!! And talk about a tough schedule with little talent check out the Warriors schedule, Heritage,Liberty(Bedford),Wm. Campbell,Gretna,Wm. Fleming, and finally Reidsville,NC all before the district games start. So just like last year there will be alot of games played with a continuously running clock this year in Ridgeway(9 out of 10 last year)
  9. AAA Franklin Co handed Blacksburg their first loss last night 84-72 to win the Northside Invitational,Mavahi lost to Lord Botetourt 63-59 in the consolation game.In the Piedmont this year it should be hands down Bassett(who have split with Franklin Co this year) to win the district with the Dogs and MV battling for second. With out a doubt region champs should be Hidden Valley who beat defending AA state champs and now AAA Wm.Fleming 74-71 in OT last night in the Holiday Hoopla Tourney at Salem with Va Tech commit Ben Boggs scoring 29. They are going to be tough for anyone in the region to beat except for one of the other River Ridge teams who might pull an upset at home against them. The RR is a loaded district from top to bottom this year with no easy games especially on each teams home court.
  10. You are right, you never know what will happen when you play the games. But(and this is a big but),matchups make games and who matches up in the district with the Bengals?? Tunstall doesn't have the interior size,Martinsville couldn't beat them last year and look at everything they loss from last year's squad,PC just doesn't have the depth to slug it out toe to toe and MV is in for the worst season in school history so I'm going out on a limb and saying that the Bengals will run the table in the Piedmont this year. The non-district schedule of PH-Roanoke,McMichael-NC,Hidden Valley,Jefferson Forest and Christiansburg, should give a better view of how BHS will do once the playoffs start.
  11. Actually it was 35-0 before the continuous clock started,VHSL rule I believe.Carroll didn't have a first down until the drive they scored the touchdown on in the 3rd quarter when the score was 41-0. Bassett looked really good for the 1st game of the year, and CC needs work. The Cavs didn't look sharp on O or D. Coming from a MV fan it is hard to say but unless something drastic happens such as some unforseen injuries or a tidal wave, the Bengals should have a cakewalk thru the Piedmont this year.Tunstall and maybe Mavahi can keep it close for a half but BHS is to strong, deep, and talented for the rest of the league this year!
  12. No football or any sports are not considered a "big deal" in Henry Co. When we were going thru our problems with our head coach at MV a couple of years ago, we were told by one of the top people in the school system that they didn't care if the Warriors went 0-10 every year as long as the kids passed the SOL's. So no sports no longer are a big deal in Henry Co. As far as the M'vlle situation, there is no excuse for that, new coach or not. They had all summer to get it straight and someone, whether it be AD,Coach, principal or whoever blew it. Not alot of happy campers at Martinsville over this situation from what I've heard.
  13. Mv looked really bad again, going to be a long year in Ridgeway. Bassett-Gretna was a whale of a game. Both teams played like they had to win to make the playoffs.#4 for Gretna really had a Sportscenter hit on Womack on that crossing pattern, but Bassett after falling behind 6-0 came back and scored twice to "win" 13-6. Was very impressed with both of these teams and I thought Patrick Co. showed well against Chatham. Good luck to all these teams this year!!
  14. I'm here to give the Bengals their props for this year. In the Piedmont I don't think they will be challenged this year. Mavahi,Tunstall and PC don't have enough horses to hang with BHS and this is the worst team ever at Magna Vista.(Believe me on that,I've seen them all since '88) No matter how the Bengals fare in the non-district games, they will be in the playoffs solely on the fact that they will win the district, and they should do it in convincing fashion also!!!

    ? for G-Man

It just seemed to me to be highly unusual to scrimmage someone you were going to play during the season, but I guess it really doesn't matter that much.
  16. Actually 2 questions G-Man. Is Magna Vista still playing in the scrimmage this weekend? They didn't start practice last week because of a sudden death in the head coaches family.Didn't start until Monday of this week, so I guess per VHSL rules Sat. would be their first day in full gear. Just wondering. Also, I noticed that MV was scrimmaging Gretna at the Bassett jamboree(now being held at Fieldale-Collinsville Middle school because of field issues at BHS) but we also play them during the regular season. I've never known this to happen before, just wondering if this is a typo on the Bassett website. Also with a non-district schedule of Heritage-Lynchburg,Liberty-Bedford,Reidsville,NC,William Campbell,Gretna, and Wm. Fleming look for MV to miss the playoffs for the first time in about 10 yrs.(in the revamped region 4 we probably wouldn't have made it anyway!)
  17. Probably the 2nd best team in the Piedmont. They were upset by Dan River in the tourney semi-finals(a team they had beat twice in the regular season). They are solid on defense and with hitters 1-6, are a pretty good offensive team. They have a couple of leftys in Jessup and Cole(who will probably get the start on Tuesday). He just signed with UVA-Wise the other night. When he's on he throws in the 85-86 range but is prone to wildness sometimes. I think though since they travel to Richlands to play they may have a tough time, they haven't been a good road team this year. Also they graduated and school was over with last week in Patrick Co. and I thought that it really showed in their performance in the Piedmont tourney, just didn't look as sharp as they did during the regular season.
  18. Just like the other 4 games a close hard fought game until the end. Good luck to both teams next week in the state quarterfinals. Again congrats to MV for winning the Region 4 title!!
  19. Mavahi and MV Round 5 getting ready to happen.Martinsville might be able to handle MV this time but so far it's 2-2 with all 4 games coming down to the last 30 seconds or going into overtime.Should be another good one. Will this game be at Bassett Sat. night??
  20. MV played terrible tonight. Missed a boatload of layups and easy putbacks. Will give it to Lee though, they played hard all game put just didn't get many easy looks against the ball-hawking pressure of MV.Now Thursday night Bassett & MV (15 minutes apart) get to drive 2 hours or so to play each other on a school night. Ought to be a big crowd for that one.LOL.. By the way mhsalum we had a crowd of about 450 or so at MV tonight, the cheerleaders voices were echoing due to the small crowd, heard it was about the same on Cleveland Ave.
  21. If I was Lee I'd be ticked off. According to the brackets Lee is the 4 seed MV is the 5 seed but the game is at MV. I thought the higher seed hosted the game.I would want the opponent driving 4 1/2 or 5 hours to play not the other way around!!
  22. He is no longer with the team.Quit just after the first of the year.Very quick and athletic, and with Womack inside and McGill and Goforth outside they could make things interesting tommorrow night but with the home court advantage I look for Grundy to pull this one out.Bassett is a young team and are probably a year away from doing any damage. They lost 8 out of their top 9 players from last year's state semi-finalist team so this has been a rebuilding year for them.
  23. Close for a half,Dogs make them chase the 2nd half(if they can get a 6-8 point lead). I'll say 12-15 point Dog win. But I'll also say this, none of the Piedmont teams are as strong this year as some of the past teams have been,so with that being said any of them are subject to being beat if all they think they have to do is show up to win!!
  24. Sat with TR at the Piedmont semi's, never have I seen anyone shake so many hands or kiss so many women at one ballgame. I believe he's running for office somewhere. He is with out a doubt"one of a kind"!! Legend in his own mind...yeah I'll go with that!!
