The varsity started 4 sophomores and a freshman against Martinsville. They are only going to get better and better with more playing time.

Is the Palmer kid on jv just an 8th grader? He is going to be a really good player. He was a nightmare matchup for the jv Dogs. They were able to get the ball out of his hands enough in the 4th quarter to pull out a 1 point win. He and a few more of the jv kids are going to make Graham really tough to beat next year.

Good game as the Dogs built a 16 point lead in the 3rd quarter only for Graham to battle back to cut it to a 3 point lead at the start of the 4th. Martinsville pulled away late for the final margin. Graham is going to be a really good team as the year goes on, they just need more court time. After watching the jv and varsity and seeing how much youth they have, the bball program is going to be very good for the foreseeable future at Graham. Good luck to the G-Men and we'll see you in a few weeks in Bluefield.

I was wondering what Graham had this year. They play Martinsville twice this year, last year they came to Mavahi and whooped us pretty good.

Great game at Bassett tonight. Without their starting qb, Bassett was down 43-21 to GW-Danville with 8 minutes to go. They scored with 40 seconds to go and tied the game up at 43 to send it to ot. The Bengals scored first to go up 7 then GW had the ball with 4th down on the half yard line and Bassett stuffed the run to win 50-43.

In a top 5 scenario who would get the bye in the 2nd round? If 1 gets a bye and 2-5 and 3-4 play it will only leave 3 teams for the semis.

When I was at Elon College in the mid 70's they had the Oxendine brothers from Lumberton playing on the football team. Those guys were really good, played defense and made a bunch of tackles every game. They were really good guys off the field also.

Heckuva ballgame. The Dogs scored late in the 3rd to make 7-0. They stopped GW 3 times inside the 15 yardline on downs, once on the 2 right before half. GW blocked a 26 yard fg with 1:20 to go in the game and were moving the ball but Martinsville had a pick 6 with 17 seconds left to seal the win. Was a really good high school game with a great atmosphere. GW is very young this year so this was the Dogs chance to get them. First time we have beat the Eagles since 1987.

Martinsville game with GW tonight was moved I would think because to maximize the crowd. The Dogs don't have but 2 decent draws for home games this year in GW and Bassett. The others won't bring much of a crowd so you got to make your money where you can.

Martinsville has already beat Glenvar at Glenvar 21-14. Should start finding out more about the Dogs next week as we go to undefeated 4A Halifax Co. Then we still have games with 3A Magna Vista, Bassett and Tunstall and 4A GW-Danville. Also 2A games with Chatham and Patrick Co., so Martinsville still has a long way to go. We do have alot of speed, 2A 100 meter state champion had 318 yards on 17 carries Friday night with 5 tds. But we're young in the line and it all depends how they hold up.

Jeff just got hired as the new coach at 4A Halifax Co. They play Martinsville twice in the regular season so they should be some interesting games.

Martinsville 21 Glenvar 14 final. Dogs stop Glenvar on 4th down inside the 15 with less than 2 to go and ran the clock out. Big win to start the season for Mavahi.

Glenvar takes the 2nd half kickoff and go on a long drive. Kick a fg to make it 14-6. They onside kick and recover it. Go on a 15 or so play drive and score a td an a 2 point conversion to tie the game up with 2 minutes to go in the 3rd. The Dogs offense hasn't touched the ball yet in the 2nd half.

Congrats to Crigger from a old Warrior fan from Horsepasture. Matt's got a little one now who's going to be a future Bengal. Sure had some fun back in the Magna Vista days. Love the After the Whistle show.

On the Martinsville schedule it has the Dogs playing Carroll Co on the 19th at 6 in Martinsville. Mistake has been made somewhere.

How would yall like to be Martinsville. Since Patrick Co is leaving to go to the TRD, the 2A Dogs are in a district with 3A Magna Vista, Bassett, and Tunstall, 4A GW-Danville and Halifax Co. And just added 5A Mecklenburg Co. Not looking good in the Ville, 60-0 routs every week.

Jeff was very animated not only as a coach but even when he starred for back to back state championship teams at Martinsville. Then he went to Maryland and played for Lefty and learned the true art of animation from a master. I believe it's alot more to this story but we will never find out. Some of us close to the program have a pretty good idea what is going on, but it isn't really fair to Jeff to discuss it in public. Bassett has a job opening now and there is alot of people trying to get him hired there. He will land on his feet. He runs his families business and doesn't really need the headache but he loves basketball and the interaction with the kids.

GW Carver's last graduating class was 88. Magna Vista won state over Charlottesville HS in 89. Jerome Preston was a big man, played qb at Carver and MV but went on to play D-line at Va Tech in college. Good teams in Henry Co in the 80's, Martinsville played in 6 or 7 state championship games winning 5, Dewey Mason won 3, Carver won 2 and MV won 1. Alot of good bball back then.
