  1. Burton 34 Castlewood 13 Final
  2. I watched it up until Central scored in the 4th on a counter. The DB from Union came up…and then didn’t even bother to lay the hit. Lol. That game is probably one of the worst 3 games I’ve seen out of Union since consolidation.
  3. Central has been better with fundamentals and discipline for sure. It’s not even close tonight in that regard.
  4. Looks to me like they’ve just laid down. Up to this point, they have nothing positive to take away from this one. Not a single thing.
  5. I’ve not seen Union or Central either one until tonight, but it goes without saying that Union doesn’t look sharp at all. They are just going through the motions so far. That’s it.
  6. The first two meetings between PV and Lee (89&90) were both won by PV, too, but weren’t exactly close. They were for a bit, but think the finals in those were 47-26 and 30-13, respectively.
  7. In that case, all consideration has to take into account the clock first. Once it hits zero, nothing else matters.
  8. Union’s helmet logo should always use the contrasting colors with the shell color. If the shell is going to be blue, make the logo orange and white. If it’s going to be orange, make the logo blue and white. If it’s going to be white, make the logo blue and orange. That would drastically improve the helmet, imo. Just keep the blue facemask the same with any combo.
  9. Akers is looking pretty good at Holston.
  10. The run calls were nowhere as baffling as the accepted holding penalty on Union’s last drive when the RB ran out of bounds. Sure, it would have been 2nd and 5, but Ridgeview still had a TO and could have called it after the next play setting up a 3rd down instead of having Union in a 2nd and long with no time outs left. That 45 seconds lost there pretty much ended it. If you’re Ridgeview, you can’t be handed a free time out in that situation and hand it right back.
  11. It wasn’t as bad as people now romanticize it as being. Mostly just a lot of mud and little grass…sometimes with some sawdust-like something mixed in.
  12. Absolutely loved playing at Riggs...most of my teammates back in the day did, too. Always was a great atmosphere for football.
  13. I would venture to guess that Graham is the only team in the area who would prefer to play Union at Bullitt Park than at home.
  14. It’s a tough situation for sure. But, covid affects kids, too. A couple days before the Burton/Twin Springs game, a student from Twin Springs died from it. When you put it in that perspective, a game isn’t very important. It sucks that kids’ participation in sports is being impacted, but it is what it is for now.
  15. Came to read updates, got a workshop on “mental toughness.” Just give the kids credit already and move on.
  16. Compared to the old LPD forum circa 2006, this forum is tame and serene. Haha
  17. The NFL and college rule allowing the QB to throw the ball away doesn't reward the defense for out-scheming the offense. Now that you can watch full games in decent quality on YouTube, check out any of the NFC or AFC Championship games or Super Bowls prior to the rule change and the difference is clear. In those games, you are guaranteed to have a pretty good QB and decent to excellent defenses...and when the defense out-schemes the offense, that QB has a choice to make and has to make it quickly. At the very least, it forces the QB to either take a sack or make a high risk throw that the defense can at least make a play on, rewarding the defense's strategy. I like the HS rule. It's pretty much the same as the old NFL and college rule.
  18. That’s the thing...for simplicity sake, think of it like this: For every $1.50 the county spends on a student, they get $8.00 in state and federal funds. The caveat is that the locality has to spend that $1.50 in order to get those funds, and the BOS is allocating the $1.50 to the school system, but the school system itself gets the $8.00. The total money is spread across the school system to pay employees and operate the system...not just at one school, but all schools in the district. So, if the county loses kids, they save some money of their own, but they lose out on a ton of state and federal money that is desperately needed in order to operate the school system itself.
  19. With the last part, you hit the nail on the head. The county receives from state and federal funds more than 4 times the money it invests per student. So, for every student that leaves because of a tuition fee, the school system will lose around $8500. The county's net loss would be around $7000 per student. My understanding is that the BOS pays the local fee, but doesn't see any of the state or federal money because it is sent straight to the school system. If that is the case, all the county's taxpayers are still seeing a return in money for their school due to the state and federal money being a much larger amount than the local share...plus, all the state and local funding is sent to the school board, not the individual schools. But, because of the way the money is accounted for, it's hard to explain that to someone who doesn't understand the way the school system is funded to begin with.
  20. I feel that district champs should automatically get a playoff birth. That way, every team would know from day 1 if they win their district they get in. If a team fails to win their district, it's their own fault...regardless of how many good teams are in the district. Football used to be different from every other sport in that regular season games could sink you in a hurry. Sometimes there were no second chances. Now days, everyone gets a second chance...and a third chance, and sometimes a fourth chance with the bloated playoff system we have now. Every team should have a defined path from the start, though, and not have to solely rely on a flawed ratings system, imo. Settle it on the field at one point or another for every team...if it's settled by a regular season game for the district title, so be it.
  21. The difference is that Appy and Jonesville both made it in when the Regions only took 4 teams per division...and there were only 3 classes with 2 divisions each. So, then it would be 4 teams per region x 2 divisions per region, giving you 8 playoff spots per region for divisions 1&2 combined. So, 16 teams statewide qualified for the playoffs in division 1 and 16 in division 2...if you multiply that by 3 classifications, after the regular season, only 96 teams in the entire state made the playoffs in classes A, AA, & AAA combined. Now you have 8 per region per classification...and 5 classifications. The math in that would be 32 teams statewide per classification times 5 classes...which gives you 160 statewide. So, yeah, the playoffs are watered down now and could be improved by setting the number at no more than 6 per region per classification..or better yet only 4.
  22. It is to be broadcast on WEMT Fox 39 according to the listings.
  23. The offsetting one was the one talked about above. It’s football...from time to time, players sometimes lose their cool.
