In the BDT today about the guy in VA who got hit by a softball over the weekend and died. My softball days have long since been over but the way the bats have gotten better over the years it is a wonder that more pitchers havent been killed playing slow pitch.

So much of high school baseball depends on who you pitch. Per the article it appears that Tazewell is much more concerned with district play than the Coppinger, as well they should be.

There isn't an official one is WV. If you get ejected your only recourse is to get a judge to file an injunction which forces the WVSSAC to hear your case. Just curious as to if there is a way to appeal ejections in VA.

Hey GMAN I figure that you know the answer to this: They were talking about this on Mike and Mike in the morning today. Somebody said if he hadnt called the penalty on himself and gotten DQ for it he would have lost all the money. Do you even sign a scorecard after a playoff? Even at that since everything but the playoff was already signed for wouldnt he just have been awarded 2nd?

Baseball and Basketball are a little bit different. Becuase of the weather the pool of college atheletes in baseball should be slimmer than that for basketball. Not that this is a hot bed of basketball, but our spring sport athletes definitely are behind those from other areas, and in general because of the rules in west virginia, high school athletics are behind in all sports.

There are certainly obstacles at BSC. But the girls team is traditionally all sophomores and freshmen so that certainly is a warning sign that something isn't right. Get the local kids that sign and sit the bench at Concord and the program would improve. Common sense says if the kids cant get to practice at 8 am, you dont schedule practice for 8 am. I know that they take vans from the college to road games, so why not pick up the kids that are staying up on the hill and bring them to practice in the vans. Just a thought.

I watch Bluefield Middle beat Princeton Middle for the county championship for the first time in several years I imagine and was really impressed with 3 of Bluefield kids. Dont know there names but I think one was Yost and the other two were great athletes that could flat out play. Bluefield should continue its success in the future. The Eades kid from Princeton is gonna be a player as well.

Transfering to Old Dominion I believe per blue gold news

Two years ago the powers to be in the SSAC decided to change the way teams qualify for the state tournament. Their reasoning was to get the best teams to Charleston. Well guess what, it didnt work. All their proposal did was let two teams from a bigger area go as opposed to one from a smaller area. Look at this years AA boys from this region. You have the top three teams in the state (Wyoming East, Oak Hill, and Pikeview) along with Bluefield who quite possibly belongs in the top eight, and only two of them will advance to Charleston. Thus the proposal has failed in its intent. Ironically however it has succeeded in its real intent. Charleston Catholic is the school that got the proposal pushed through. 3 years ago when their #1 ranked girls were almost upset by a young Huntington St. Joes team which were scheduled to be moved to their region the next year, that had to act. They knew that they would not be in the state tournament under the current format. (They were right St. Joes has beat them in the sectional the last two years, but they have gone to the state anyways based on the new format). Open the floor to suggestions as to what the fans on southern west Virginia would like to see: A. The old format back in place. B. Keep the current format C. Change to a system like is in place for football and take the top 8 in the rankings. D. Other ( please elaborate)

Most know that I am a huge WVU fan. The polls just came out and WVU is ranked higher than Perdue. How does this happen. The whole time we were undefeated so were they and ranked higher, then they beat us. If this was college football and we had jumped them with the same number of losses with a possible BCS bid on the line, people would be going crazy. Like the BCS or not look at the excitement that it generates for 14 weeks or so a year. In basketball its like who cares they both will get in the tourney and probably be 2 or 3 seeds so it doesnt matter until March. March madness is a great month, but college football is a great 4 months!

After 400 and half the buses havent even made it to Montcalm yet. Our hill is slick and the board hasnt even got here to scrape it.

Found out last night that she is doing much much better. I heard she is out of the hospital, both her and the baby.

And truthfully if Pitt beats Cinn, Cinn should get in before we do.

The bowls are about money and WVU travels very well. If they beat Rutgers I would say no matter what they get the bid. If they lose and Cinncinnati loses also the Bearcats would probably get it. Hard to take a 8-4 team over a 11-1 one. The fans though still would make it possible.

I found out last night that she had given birth on Sunday and the baby is fine but she is in Roanoke hospital and not doing good at all. She has one collapsed lung and the other one is filling with fluid. Please remember her and her family in your prayers.
