  1. Anyone watch the Braves last night? Wow. Derrick Lowe was nearly unhittable and except for the beginning of the 9th, the Braves nearly shutout the reigning world champs. They tore Brett Myers up and if the lineup can keep hitting like they did, not necessarily homeruns, this could be a resurrection year for the Braves. With a good mixture of old talent (Chipper, Anderson) and a whole slew of young guns, this could be a great year for the Braves. I am interested in seeing what the rest of the rotation can do, because besides Lowe and Jergins (sp?), I don't really know what they have. Looking forward to a good year of baseball from the whole league.
  2. I have been saying for quite awhile something around there should be named for Gainer and Carlock. I proposed they rename the road or something like that to honor Gainer, but this would be a very good addition to the already stellar facilities we have there in Bluefield. Hope it works out.
  3. I have Western Kentucky winning their first two games, not a big Cinderella, but something.
  4. I have said this many times, but I believe the freshmen on this team will be the deciding factor in the upcoming tourneys. If Truck, Ebanks, and Jones can play well, not necessarily 20-10 games, but just play their roles, this team could be dangerous. It also depends on how many fouls Butler and Ruoff want to get in the first half, because when both of them are out, who is the scorer?
  5. Mark my words: Devin Ebanks is going to be something special in the years to come.
  6. Anyone hear anything on how they are doing up there?
  7. The one thing that usually dooms the Eers is when one of their few scorers gets into foul trouble. There are really only about 3-4 players on this team that can truly go out and put up some points. These being Butler, Ruoff, Truck, and possibly Devin Ebanks, as he has started to show his true abilities off. I believe this kid could be something special in a few years. Their defense has been great all year long, and I think that will carry them deep into both tourneys. It would help too if Butler could put up 40+ every night.
  8. Here is East Bluefield I have gotten about 2-3 inches in the past few hours. It is still coming down pretty hard out there and the roads are completely covered. I go to Concord and based on past experiences with them, I will probably have to make the drive to Athens tomorrow morning. Should make for a fun time...
  9. I thought the two babies were pretty funny. I know this is gonna sound non-manish, but were the GoDaddy commercials a bit much? I mean there were a lot of kids watching that game and that kind of stuff is kinda heavy. That may have just been me...
  10. Not much talk on here about Bluefield's basketball team. I have been to a few games and when they play with heart and are aggressive, these boys aren't too bad. They are not a team with size and strength, but they do have that Bluefield speed and a great player in Craig Ponder. They are playing #1 Oak Hill right now and are keeping up quite nicely and actually out-rebounding the much taller Red Devils. I am aware they lost to Pikeview earlier this year and it isn't going to be easy at all for them to make it up state, but I believe they have a chance. What are some of your thoughts?
  11. Hahaha. That is the best post on this thread! Nice work James.
  12. I would like to have seen a matchup of Richlands '06 and Bluefield '04. That would have been one helluva game.

  14. I can honestly say that I have never been more proud of a Bluefield team than what I was on Friday night. I know yall didn't win and I know your season is over, but as I was taking the long ride home I began to think about this past season. You guys started out 0-3, something that doesn't happen often in Beaver football, and you could have conceided defeat and settled for a mediocre season. One problem with that....PRIDE. Kids around here dream of wearing the Maroon and White and walkin into Mitchell Stadium in front of 10,000 + fans. No matter where the game may be, a good number of Beaver Faithful are always there. No matter what the weather, Beaver Nation is there. The 2008 Bluefield Beaver football team helped me realize that eventhough we may lose, we still have tradition that would rival any school, anywhere. After starting 0-3, you guys reeled off 6 straight wins (in convincing fashion) and were a few plays away from beating the best team in the state. You entered the playoffs ranked 11th, a place not many Beaver teams have been and you go to Scott and demolish the #5 Skyhawks. Last Friday night, you guys fell behind by 20 points twice, another place unusual to Bluefield. With 6 minutes left and down by 20, you guys could have given up and handed Wayne an easy win, but you didn't. You rallied around your coaches, your teammates, your brothers and nearly pulled off an amazing comeback. The fact that you put yourselves into position to win that game showed me just as much as if you would have won. Congratulations to every player on the Bluefield Beavers team. The pain I feel for the seniors is hard to bear, eventhough I, myself, have never played a down of football in my life. You don't have to play football in Bluefield to feel the tradition and passion, you just have to be there. I hope every player on this team takes more from this season than any other season in their past, even last year's championship season. I wish all the seniors the best of luck in whatever dreams they pursue and may God bless them in their life journeys. We Believe, Beavers, We Believe.
  15. Does anyone have any numbers or info on Wayne's offense? Thanks.
  16. I don't know much about Wayne this year, but it seems that year in and year out they field a very respectable team. They aren't rated #3 for no reason, and I am sure some will say they didn't play hard competition (I have no idea who they have played), but I look for this to be a very tough game for the Beavers. It is a long trip from Bluefield to Wayne and I am hoping a good number of Bluefield faithful will make the trip. I, unfortunately, will not be able to. From the past, I know that Wayne likes to run the football and run it hard up the middle. Where has Bluefield's run defense struggled the most this year? With hard running teams up the middle... If Bluefield can control the run, and get that high-powered pass offense rolling, Bluefield should be able to squeeze out a win. If Wayne can run the ball up the middle on the Beavers, I can only hope that Will Cole, Marcus Patterson, Jake Lilly, Cody Wassum, Levi Beckett and the rest of the offense can keep up on the scoreboard. I wish the Beavers the best of luck and safe travels to the fans. I will take the Beavers..... 33-21.
  17. I am sure we all know that the Bluefield started 0-3 and have ripped 5 straight opponents to be at 5-3 for the season with 2 tough games left. I think there are several main factors: - coaches have realized the strengths of their team - players gained loads of confidence after that first win - sorry to say this, schedule has gotten easier than beginning of season - team as become a TEAM and not a bunch of athletes trying to show off - run defense has improved, but still gives up a lot of inside-the-tackle yards - coaches have started to utilize Will Cole's strengths and are giving him opportunities to show off his talent - both lines have gotten much better, especially that offensive front What do yall think were the biggest contributing factors to this turnaround?
  18. I was up at Laidley on this cold Thursday night and watched Bluefield play a rather sloppy game. Althouh the final score was good, the Beavers just looked lathargic all night long. I didn't get to see what happened to Will Cole, but he was limping pretty badly, but held in there and had a great game. I was asking myself the entire time why Bluefield wasn't running the ball with the way Jake has been carrying the rock the last few games. I guess they saw that Scott couldn't defend the pass and decided to be the pass-heavy Beavers tonight. Good win for the Beavers. I think people around the state are noticing that Bluefield is back and we will be a force to face in the playoffs. I think we should be able to win out, but are going to have to play good in the remaining games. I am hoping we can get home field advantage throughout, but I will settle for two games at Mitchell. Good game Beavers and God bless all.
  19. Prayers are also needed for a friend of mine from high school. His mother died today in her yard a short time after getting home from her school where she teaches. I cannot imagine the pain this young man and his family are enduring right now... Just keep them in your prayers please. My prayers also go out to GHS84 and his family. May God Bless them and help them through this troubled time.
  20. Yes they do and I just found out that I have a ticket to that game. I am pretty excited about that, but unless they turn it around between now and them, I don't wanna drive all the way to MoTown to watch the Eers get stomped...
  21. The next Noel Devine may not be such a good thing after seeing what he did against ECU...
  22. I was thinking about what I saw in the video and look at how much time elapses before Graham emerges with the ball. There is seriously a good 5-10 seconds in between when Will apparently crosses the goal line and the Graham kid comes out of the pile with the ball. You also don't see any Graham players giving the signal that they came up with the ball. I know most of them could not see what was happening, but if a Graham player had the ball in the endzone before Will crossed the goal line (which I don't see how that happened unless he fumbled into the endzone) I would think that at least one of his teammates would know and that would carry on to the rest of the guys. Watch the play very closely around the goalline and you will see that the entire pile was almost completely in the endzone. The refs told Coach Simon that they never saw Will cross the goalline... How can the entire pile that Will is a part of be laying in the endzone, but he didn't make it? Interesting... About the refs: You see the head ref and the others just looking around at each other, but the side judge on Bluefield's sideline seemed to have a good view and was waiting for his colleagues (sp?) to confirm what he may have or may not have seen. He looked rather suprised when they just walked off the field and he was still standing there. When I first saw them walk off, and since they had given no official signal as to what happened, I thought they were going to converge and make a call. But I sat there and watched them trot on back in to their little "panic room" and stay there until 1:15 that morning. Yes, they didn't leave until 1:15 on Saturday, along with a police escort, only after every car had left the parking lot. I am getting tired of talking about this, but it really kills me to know that those boys played their hearts out on that last drive going the farthest distance possible and apparently winning the game, but being robbed by a bad no call. Like someone said, I hope they are focused on Princeton this week, because no matter how "not good" Princeton is, if they are stuck on the hard loss from last week, they could get upset by the Tigers. Bluefield has a good football team yet again. Marcus is a monster and I hope he can continue to play that way, but both lines are going to have to step it up. Our entire defense was getting manhandled by Graham in the 2nd half and that was one of the factors that lead to the loss. Our O-line consists of 4 sophomores and a junior and I am not completely sure about the D-line, but both are going to have to put some hard work in this season to have a chance to play on to the championship. Well, I gotta get up at good ol' 6:15 tomorrow. I think I am done raving about this for tonight. God bless you all.
  23. I just watched the video several times and it appears that Will Cole and the entire pile of players is laying in the endzone. I think that unless the refs saw something that happened (like a fumble) they need to throw the beanbag and mark it, then that is a definate touchdown. The video is on youtube, just search Beaver Graham 2008. It is pretty clear from that angle as to what happened. And no, I will not quit talking about this, because that blown call cost the Beavers a huge win and broke their hearts and many of the fans watching hearts as well. It would be the same with just as many Graham fans if it had happened to you all...
  24. That is the easiest way to tackle a player, and it is not cheap. Is it wrong to try to make a tackle on someone? No.
  25. I talked to Coach Simon after he had went into the refs locker room. They told him that they never saw Will break the plane of the endzone. I am not arguing that call, but the referees made no call. The head ref walked up to the pile, didn't dig around or anything, and him and his buddies scurried to the safety of their little locker room. When Will Cole crossed the goal line with the ball, Bluefield's side went crazy and Graham's side just died... 11,000 people saw Will score that touchdown, but the refs didn't? I was more angry that the refs didn't make an official call on the play. I was waiting and the next thing I know, there they go running off the field. But GetMoney is right, we should have never been in that position. We lost 21 points because of dropped passes (which I can understand) and a horrific block in the back on Patterson's TD return that was literally 30 yards behind the play. The offensive and defensive lines have a lot of improving to do this season. I saw some good and bad things out of each side, but Graham could just run wherever they wanted to. It was a helluva game and may both teams have a great season and may God bless them in all they do. GO BEAVERS!!!!
