  1. I believe Gate City would travel there if they beat Union today. Gate City was the #7 seed, Buckingham the 6th?
  2. Interesting game to me. I don't know much about Covington and i've never seen them play. Looks like they have been competitive even in their 3 losses and have some nice wins. It's a long trip to Russell County for them so i think that helps Honaker and the Tigers have been solid all season long. Honaker earns a trip to Fort Chiswell next week with a win the Friday. Honaker 27-18
  3. Yes, it's the one at exit 5. I've chuckled every time i've seen it but i wonder why a business owner would want to alienate the folks at VHS. Not good business IMO.
  4. Yeah, just think Auburn or JI Burton will be in the state quarterfinals! Who woulda thought that?
  5. redtiger thanks for the updates of the Burton/Clintwood game all day. For those of us unable to be there it was nice reading your posts.
  6. I think that's nice that you and your wife take weeks alternating between your schools. My soon to be wife is a very good sport about all our travels during football season. Makes it so much more enjoyable. With that said, not knowing much about Bath Co, i wouldn't wanna be the team taking on Honaker after last weeks loss. Tigers roll, 44-7.
  7. Looks like all games will be played on Friday night. Only possible exception is Burton/Clintwood. VHSL site says that game time will be Friday at 2 PM. Either the date or time has to be wrong. I can't imagine the game being played during 6th period, lol. I'm assuming they will correct that very soon.
  8. I'm surprised no one here is talking about this one, i realize the Tiger fight is the game of the year in SWVA and being played this week but for these two school this is a big one as well. The winner gets a Hogoheegee championship, something that's been hard to win thanks to the folks up in Wytheville. Holston has been winning by playing great in the second half this year. If they fall behing this week can they catch up? Those of you who have seen these two teams play this season, what do you think? To me Holston seems like the underdog so i'm going with Chilhowie, 34-21.
  9. I believe you are correct. I've always wondered what hold VHS back in football. Not being associated with the school in any way, i wouldn't know about the meddling but it's a shame that it happens some places. I thought Paul Wheeler had them heading in the right direction last season. Too bad it didn't work out for everyone involved. With the schedule ahead of them this season, they could finish 2-8 but could also finish 6-4. JSB is proof of what can happen when it all comes together...
  10. Yeah, Abingdon wins this one. IF it's close late, Lebanon has a good little place kicker. But i see Abingdon winning this one by 15-20 points.
  11. Count me in...maybe i'll go ahead and pull my camper down there tonight, lol.
  12. From what i've read on FBSschedules.com the contract for the game will include a game in 2017 as well. They mention Blacksburg as the likely location. http://www.fbschedules.com/2013/10/report-tennessee-virginia-tech-bristol-motor-speedway-2016/ IF so, then that would leave UT with only 6 games at Neyland for both 2016 and 17. As long as i've been going, Tennessee has always had a minimum of 7 home games each year. Interesting to see what happens...
  13. Might as well start this thread before someone else does, game of the week in SWVA next week at Honaker. Having seen both teams play once i think it could be just as good as last nights game at Battle. I dont' think Honaker can plow up the middle against the Wave as they did against JSB. Gonna have to throw the ball better to beat Clintwood IMO. If Clintwood avoids big turnovers and doesn't give up big plays in the kicking game, i think they come away with a hard fought win next week. Picking Clintwood 28-20 and already looking forward to it!
  14. I agree that Honaker running out during the prayer was just bad timing. Couldn't imagine Doug Hubbard letting that happen on purpose. Great game last night and both teams played with class as usual and as expected. I hated to see either team lose. Honaker has a tough one again next week...
  15. Same thing is happening in Tennessee as well, Dobyns-Bennett will make their second trip in four weeks to the Chattanooga area for a game. Fort Chiswell is playing Thomasville, NC as well in a couple of weeks, didn't look it up but that has to be a long one as well. I've always thought the reason for these games was to give your team a feeling of what a playoff game might feel like, traveling a long distance to play an unfamiliar opponent... I like the unique matchups but if i had a kid playing im sure i may feel differently about it.
  16. Folks in the old Garden High area most likely would agree with your description of their mascot being awesome...
  17. Things are finally changing in Emory! Good to see a Rebel fan here defending her team. Coach Palmer inherited a total mess and has things going in the right direction. But i have to agree with the other posters for this week, Battle wins by a wide margin. Congrats to the Rebel team and staff for getting things heading in the right direction!
  18. This could be a great game Friday night. If Graham brings their A-game they could very well pull the upset. I was excited to see this game on the schedule when it was announced. It makes so much sense for these two to play one another. Giles has been very impressive so far and i think they will win. Gonna go with the Spartans, 35-24. Game time at Mitchell Stadium is 7, correct??
  19. This is a good idea V-Cats, i'll participate in the coming weeks as i'm sure others will as well.
  20. I think you may be right, saw GW last week and the passing game was almost non-existant. Very one dimensional. Haven't seen Marion but the gave GW all they wanted last year. I'm thinking Marion wins a very close one this week. 20-17, 'canes...
  21. I was thinking this would be a good matchup until i saw the Holston/Twin Springs score. If you only beat TS by one, can you realistically compete with JSB? I don't think so... Battle wins this one comfortably.
  22. Does Fort Chiswell kickoff at 7:00 or 7:30? I know some teams up that way start at 7.
  23. I'm surprised there isn't already a thread for this game. Defending state champs versus potentially the best 1A team west of I-77 this year, no offense to the good folks in Clintwood. Did GW lose to many experienced players to keep this one close? My gut feeling says yes, most likely they have. Been hearing lots of good things about Fort. I'm guessing this game will tell alot about both teams. Anyone seen either team have a feel for what will happen friday night? I'm going with the Fort...30-14
  24. I was able to go to the Union/Clintwood game and the outcome could have been much different had Travis Turner not elected to go for a 4th and 1 at his OWN 14 yd line in a scoreless game early in the 2nd period. Clintwood stopped them and scored a couple plays later. Then recovered a fumble on the next drive in about the same area. Got them down 14-0 with that move. The kids fought hard the rest of the night to dig out of that hole but it was a bit too much to overcome. I felt Union was a bit better overall team when the game was over. Haven't seen Richlands yet but i think they can handle the Bears this week. Should be a great atmosphere at Bullit Park.
  25. Ah, my two favorite programs in SWVA. I've been to the last 5 meeting of these two schools and i've witnessed the respect between them firsthand. It's real and it's nice to see. As for this friday, i think Richlands will be able to win this one. Gonna go with the Blues 27-7. Although i'm picking against GC this week, i expect them to rebound nicely from last seasons 2-8 mark. 7-3 seems doable. I think the Hicks kid at running back could be really special the next two seasons if he stays healthy.
