  1. One of the best games to watch ever. For those that left at halftime, I know you will regret that. Congrats to Honaker for their display of heart and never giving up!
  2. Good luck JSB! Keep the Metal in the Mountains boys!
  3. Tickets are $10 this week. Programs are $5. Good luck to the Honaker Tigers! Keep the Metal in the Mountains Boys!
  4. I agree with RichlandsAlum completely. The article talks about the lack of student support at ball games. Its true. Headaches over playing time, coach is too rough, or the coach is fill in the blanks. I have thrown together some of my random thoughts. Sad thing is kids are making the choices now. I have seen a travel team be chosen over high school teams already. Seen it happen in a little league game where there were not enough players and a team had to forefit and did not get to play because three of their players went to play travel and left the kids they go to school with and see everyday without a game. Everyone has the next D1 athlete I guess. I miss the days when the coaches developed teams not just individual players. There are some coaches that still do. However with the increasing demand on test scores from teachers and the rigors of coaching it makes it hard for those coaches to do both. So we will see fewer and fewer teacher/coaches and more from the community. Kids will be choosing to play baseball/softball spring through fall and give up their little league teams, fall soccer teams, and some even their football (seen it happen). Girls may give up volleyball in the fall or basketball in the winter for one or the other. And basketball goes year round anymore. For some the kids just want to play and will go where there is a game. Others however are specializing in a sport way too early.
  5. According to coalfield.com you are correct bucfan. All Region D games scheduled for tonight were postponed until Tuesday. All Wednesday night games are still as scheduled.
  6. I had read on here before the colors would be teal/black/silver. Not for certain except for the teal. I guess it's available since the Marlins gave it up to go with tangerine on their new unis.
  7. Pretty cool. You don't see that every day.
  8. Congrats Greenwave! Awesome Job.
  9. Deserve it our not the Hokies are there. I did not hear this much comotion back in 2000 when the 11th ranked Irish went to the Fiesta and the 5th ranked Hokies got skipped. It is just a flawed system all around when you have Saban voting OSU 4th and other coaches voting them 6th to insure no shot at the title. Crazy.
  10. I had heard Florida somewhere. And yahoo has projected vs. Auburn. Oh well guess we may get but whippin # 3 for 2011. But not if we show up and play.
  11. Short season should be fun. Last short season was won by the Spurs if memory serves me right. Could be up for grabs with everyone depending on how players worked during the down time.
  12. C'mon man. No one is bashing any teams from the past here. Just trying to give props to a local team still moving on. Go Get em Wave.
  13. Still winning, but it's more like a team thing than a Tebow thing. He is just the one the spotlight gravitates toward.
  14. Nice article. To me you can motivate yourself as a player in many different ways. LPD Pride is how the boys at Clintwood do it. Seems to be working. Good luck this week. And showem some good ole corn bread and soup beans SWVA football!
  15. Unreal score. http://www.roanoke.com/sports/highschool/wb/301659
  16. Do you think this might have been due to their quickscore app they were using to get people to update scores of ball games? Just a thought. I do believe that if you can create a profile on there you can reports scores. Schools that update their own maxpreps are more reliable...but very few do.
  17. I agree, that's a crock if you win out as a higher seed and get a trophy without ever having to play the remainder of your division or section for it. Let's just change the rules and drive all over the state. geez is this football or a scavenger hunt.. excuse me off to get my GPS.
  18. I think the dead periods are put in place during the next season's "try out" periods to protect the players. At smaller schools multisport atheletes are stretched pretty thin as it is. But how many schools paid attention to the out of season practice rule as it was. This is a whole new ball game that I am sure some will use to make their teams better, I just hope we don't end up with specializing in one sport.
  19. There is actually a 10 day window they call a dead period where no other sport can practice except for the ones in season. For example right now it's only football and volleyball time. There is also a stipulation that school districts can make tighter restrictions on their schools.
  20. That is awesome. Good luck this season.

    Cmd 2011

I think Lee may be a solid three this year. Lebanon very young this year. Be good to see VA High give GC a run. Thought Battle was ready to turn the corner until all that drama last year. But hey ya never know that why they play them.
  22. Does Grundy have 480 kids? I think the rest of the teams are below 400 while Honaker hovers around the 400 mark. I would say Honaker, Hurley, Grundy, Haysi, TV.
  23. Was he hired strictly as a coach or will he have a teaching position, if so what would he teach?
  24. With all the camps, weight training, and 7 on 7s that are available today any player should be able to make it to some if not all. Most schools do the w/t early before the day gets going or late when most would be off of work. 7s and camp are usually during business hours. With HS players there is a lot competing for their time, video games, social networking sites, atv's, everyone seems to have a car, girls of course, family vacation, summer jobs, and if they are from a smaller school the other sports offer camps and off season training as well. This is a good lesson in scheduling for the parents and the dedicated kid to set down and work it if football or any other sport is what they want to succeed at. A coach can't penalize you for not being their but the previous post sum that up well. It's kinda like listening to an NFL reporter talking about Billy Bob showing up to camp out of shape. The coach can tell and it will show at first. Now the kid might work his behind off and crack the starting 11 but that may be half way through the season. The chemistry developed among the players is worth as much as the conditioning in my opinion. Work now so you will still be playing in December. I guess the question is how bad do you want it?
  25. are a debate that the VHSL has left open to interpretation. Some understand it and many refuse to even try to learn. If the governing body would have taken the time to developed a hard list with names, model #'s, or even pictures of the illegal bats a lot of confusion could have been avoided over the course of this season.
