Galax started the 2015 season 1-4 with losses to Glenvar (20-15), Radford (33-26), Wythe (28-27), and Giles (35-24). They won the next 10 games in a row, beating Riverheads 7-6 in the state championship game.

Blacksburg went 5-5 in 2016 with losses to Giles, Salem, PH Roanoke, Hidden Valley and Abingdon. They won the 4A state championship game that season, beating Lord Botetourt, Brookville, Heritage, Phoebus, and Staunton River in the playoffs. You don’t run that postseason gauntlet without being prepared in the regular season.

Virginia High is vastly improved, with a significant improvement within the coaching staff. The schedule needs to be the next thing the school addresses.

VHS should bring back Tennessee High. Should have never been eliminated.

The one thing you can take from today's meeting - regardless of which plan is voted in - TSSAA wants to ensure that football is played this fall (health concerns permitting). They're going to do everything they can to make sure the season is played as scheduled for each sport.

    You are correct sir.

If the VHSL would have taken our advice years ago, Dollar General Inc. would have provided the officials for all athletic events.

You wouldn't believe how many VHSL referees and umpires come into our stores on the way to a game for a new pair of glasses.

There has to be a better way, and we at Dollar General Inc. look to be the savior of Appalachia, in more ways than one.

Created a new user name just for this? 😎

Hard to imagine any statistical model that allows Tazewell County to give serious thought to consolidation at this point.  And an unforeseen influx of capital probably wouldn't resolve the impact of VHSL classification policies.

Unless there is a clear trend in population decline pointing to historic numbers (like a reduction to levels in the year 1900 or thereabouts), Tazewell County probably doesn't have any better option than to simply sit tight for a few years.

Others have thought the same but in the end....consolidation.
