Graham and who ever makes it to the finals......( It want make no difference who the
Second team is the way Graham is playing )
-
I am glad just to be in the playoffs.....not complaining about the time...That's like
A homeless man complaining about his steak someone bought him, not cooked right!
No hate here..........
-
If Marion comes out and plays like the team that won 7 games, then we got a game. Ball
Control. Giles thrives on it. Marion is a good ball team, and like you said, they are
Young and hungry. Marion should play Marion's game, not Giles's.
-
The single wing:
If you can't see them or catch them, then, you can't stop them, or tackle them.
-
Graduations to both teams: Abingdon for their win and great season, and to Marion, a great
Turnaround season for the Canes and a 7-3 year. I wish them both well in the playoffs.
Just a side note: both of Jakes parents are graduates of that school at Exit 35. We are Proud of you Jake. Great folks!

Our Heavenly Father, we have lost a dear Young man from this Earth, and he has joined
You in Heaven. Our loss on this Earth, is Heavens gain. It is times like this that is truly a
Test of our faith, but your reassurance that we all, as Christians, will be reunited again
In your Kingdom, that keeps our faith strong.
Our Father, we pray for the family from Hancock County. Ease their pain of their loss on
This Earth. As the Bible says; " He who is without life on this Earth, is with
ME IN Heaven " This family will not walk alone. Christ is always with us all in times like
This. We ask This in the name of our Father, The Lord. Amen

I can say that mining support industries in Smyth Co are being effected. Not living in the actual
Coal fields, I can not honestly comment on how low the industry will dip in the economy in
The coal counties. From what I do read and hear about the coal industry, the industry as it was
Once, King Coal, is never coming back. The EPA has set standards that has handcuffed the industry.
I did see that Virginia's present Governor has given some grant funds to help up start alternative
Industries. The employment rate has to be high in several counties. As for Folks moving out, we'll
Not sure about that, but I do see many folks driving out of the coal fields to the Tri Cities,
Washington and Smyth counties for employment. Their actual move out of the coal fields probably
Will come later, after the drive becomes old, and a new job elsewhere soldilidifies.
Student enrollment is down all across SWVA, not just in coal producing counties. Hopefully, it
Will stabilize soon, and the tax dollars supporting education can become more reliable. I think
Efforts have to be pointed to alternative industries , and not so much trying to get mining back in
A place where the gov't is not interested in spending money, i.e. The mining industry.

VA High has to be SWVA most underachieving team, year in and year out. VA High has great
Athletic potential every year. They have the athletes that other schools only dream of
Having. VHS excells in baseball. They do pretty good in Basketball, but not what they
Should, again, with the athletic presents at the school being tremendous.
Coaches have come and gone at the city school for years, with mediocre success. That school
Is a head scratcher for me.....What the heck would it take for VHS to have success annually
With all that athletic talent?
-
Marion ( 7-2 ) has to be one of the most improved teams in SWVA. Marion has won 5 in a row, after losses to GW and RR. The Red Team keeps improving Each week. Expect a good game With Abingdon,
But the Falcons have too much talent for the Canes. These 2 teams really don't like each other, and it is not only in football. They detest each other in the worst way. It's the best from Smyth Co vs
The best from Washington Co. Falcons by 2-3 scores.

Coach Roberts improvements shows all of us that the Power of Prayer to our Holy Father is good,
And according to the word of God, our Prayers are answered, when our Lord sees fit on his
Time table, not ours.
I have often said; It takes the same amount of time to Pray, as the time it takes
To worry. Which one pays off?
So Pray , My Friends, fear not, and do not worry. Peace and Love to all!

Hey guys, there are some things that I miss at high schools games, that are
gone now. Maybe some schools still have it, but few, if any.
First, I like to eat. That is a fact. I love those Hot Dogs from the consession
Stands. What I miss most, is the guys going through the stands selling the dogs, and pop corn. It not that am too lazy to get up on go to the concessions, it
Is when I go, I going to miss the half time band performance.
Heck, those kids in the band practice hard all week just to perform a few minutes for us, and here I stand in a long line waiting for my hot dog. What
A bummer! Where are those kids or boosters going through the stands selling
The hot dogs? I miss that guy hollering......Hot Dogs, Hot Dogs, get your
Hot Dogs...Pop Corn, Pot Corn, anybody?
By the time I get back, well I missed the band. And that walk to the consessions,it seems like a mile, and what about meeting up with an old
Friend you haven't seen for ages. Yah, I should have got my dog before the
Game, but nobody does that....you are not hungry then....It halftime when
That hunger bug hits you.
I know that I am old school, but things like that in those days, we took for
Normal. Long gone. It just faded away. Any of you folks got any things that
You miss about the games, that have faded way? What about those hot dogs, how
Do they taste at your school?
And back to the band. Let's give those kids a hand for all the hard work they
Put in. You bet their parents are not standing in line; a few may be selling
Inside the stand, but somebody got to do it.
-
May the healing hand of our Father touch Coach Roberts and through the Dr's, bless
Him with God's power of being the great Physician. May he be with the family during
This difficult time, giving them peace and easing their pain of uncertainty. We ask
This simple Prayer in the name of our Holy Father, Christ our Lord. Amen
-
Someone post them.....I can not do it on my tablet..thanks!
VHSL.org
Sorry guys, I did not see that Big O had already posted the rankings.
My apologies.
Thanks futbolking !!

I certainty hope that both kids are going to be OK in the long run. Chilhowie's player injury looked
Serious to me, and I Expect that he will not play, and should not play, if he is still injured.
I was not at the PH game, and can only peculate that he also had a serious injury, especially
When he had to be carted off the field. There is a huge difference between having a "broken
Leg and a simple sprain". If he has ligament damage, that to is serious. I wish the best for
Him, and hope that he will be OK in the long run.
Injured players on a football field is a receipt for disaster. Therfore, I expect neither player
Will not be on the field Friday night. Both teams have other players to fill in, and expect that
is what will take place, along with other adjustments by the respective Coaching Staffs.

Red tiger, the drop off in enrollment probably has something to do with the economy, but
Most schools are seeing that trend in SWVA. The hit the mining industry has taken has hurt
ALL of SWVA, not just the mining counties.
Smyth County has seen mining support industries layoff, and one is going to close soon. Alpha
Bankruptcy has got to hurt Washington Co also. But those two counties have other industries
That can help the hurt the mining industry is seeing. I seen the other day where another
Industry is opening in the coal fields, and that is great news.
The way the gov't has treated the mining industry is terrible. I have never seen one industry
Singled out so much in my lifetime, and admonished for the sake of the so called environment
When other countries keep ignoring the same regulations.
-
Yes, I can't argue with those Schools. But those large peanut programs in elementary
Schools have a tendency to drop off when the kids hit high school. I read on this site
Just the other day where someone said there was a lot of students just walking the halls
At RV, and not playing Football. The interest seem to die out in larger schools for some
Reason. You are right again, about GC and Union, their programs are sold, and all indications
Will be so in the future, but GC has seen some down years also lately.
Good discussion!
-
It is true with Lee. Jonesville and Pennington were good programs. So we're Clintwood and Haysi.Same at Northwood, with Saltville and Rich Valley.
I say the jury is in on Ridgeview.....RV will be hard pressed to be as good as Cwood & Haysi.
There are more schools that consolidated, with the kiss of death to football.
Look at Holston, formerly Damascus and Liberty Hall. Grayson Co has been trying
To survive after combining Fries and Independence, and Pulaski Co was strong, but not nearly what they were at first after consolidation occured.
Just wait a few years with Union, and you will probably see a big drop off in
The football program if the pattern hits there like at other consolidated schools.
-
If you want to destroy some good football schools, consolidate those schools into
One school. The football programs dies a slow death. Great facilities, but no good
Football.
-
If Richlands want to get rid of Mance, I know one school at Exit 1 that would
Probably take him in a heatbeat. No recruiting necessary there; they have
the jitterbugs, just no one to tell them which way to jitter! Just kidding.
-
Sounds lke a tough game for both squads. Hey guys, the second season starts soon,
For both teams. Got to look at the BIG picture. A lot of football to be played for
Both teams. Never to late to learn from mistakes made, Players and Coaches.
That loss should just piss Richlands off, and make them a better team for the post
Season. For Abingdon, it had to be a confidence builder for their post season.
Best of luck to both squads.
-
Hey folks, is this 02GW12 poster just an axx hole, or am I miss reading him completely?
-
Last night folks were taking about Jake Sturgill getting injured....possible
Wrist. Any update on that, or was it nothing???
Jake is a Huge part of the Falcon offense. They can't lose him and except to
Compete with the Blues.
-
Anybody got final on Holston/Northwood??
-
It comes and goes in cycles! Unless you go out and recruit about 12 guys each year,
And that ain't going to happen. It starts in the 7th grade, 8th grade, and then to the
JV's. Don't push them, let them play to have fun. Work some on weights, but don't force
The issue. Those that like it will stay and make good players.
-
Hey guys, you got to put Chilhowie in that mix of teams that is a big surprise. The
Warriors were just 3-17 in 2 years prior to this season. Now they stand at 6-1 this
Year, and probably a playoff team in A1 West. Sorry, but I don't have a disappointing
Team. I tend to dwell on the positives, and try to not look at the negatives of our
Youth. If they are playing football, I just can not say anything negative.
