  1. Chilhowie was the more "seasoned" team. They score on the first two plays, and twice in nine plays. That set the tone. Chilhowie had more speed and quickness. Honaker will improve. Did the score surprise? Sure, but not for Chillhowie folks. Good luck to both squads.
  2. Can anyone post a radio link for the Burton/PH game today? Thanks
  3. Folks in and around the community of Chilhowie are still in a state of shock and disbelief in the sudden loss of their former WARRIOR, Will Walker. Will was killed in a farm accident late Thursday evening near Chilhowie. Will was a outstanding running back several years ago at CHS. He was 30 years old, and a AG teacher at Chilhowie and Northwood. Will was a great person, a great husband, and a brand new dad. We ask why Lord? Only our Father in Heaven knows the answer as to why. But we can be assured that Will is with Our Holy Father now. Will won the race to get to Heaven before we did. God knows what he is doing, and he knows why. Life on this Earth throws us a curve ball from time to time, and we have to accept his actions and keep the Faith, knowing that we will all be reunited in Heaven with Will and the others that have passed before us. Please Pray for Will's family and friends. Prayer is what we all need to help comfort our loss. May OUR Lord be with us now and in the days to come. May God Bless us all.
  4. Chilhowie was just too strong on both O and D for GW. Warriors go to 4-0, while GW falls to 2-2. CHS has a homecoming game next week with Northwood, and has Virginia High at Chilhowie in 2 weeks.
  5. I would think that GW's blowout win over Marion got the attention of Chilhowie. GW has frustrated Chilhowie over the years. I think some thought GW would be down this year, but not so fast. GW is very skilled, quick, and well coached. Chilhowie had better play good defense, and execute on offense. If GW's QB has time to throw, CHS May find themselves in a shootout, something no one would want with GW. Chilhowie 35 GW 30
  6. I sat near the 50 yd line at the Ridgeview benefit game with Chilhowie. As I recall, the game was tied at 17 at half time. In the third quarter, Chilhowie scored on a 42 yd FG to make it 20-17 Chilhowie. Ridgeview got the ball and ran a series, but did not score. That was it as far as the first teams for the game. The 2's and 3's finished the game for both squads, with Ridgeview scoring 2 late TD's. The Adkins kid for RV did not carry the ball but about 1or 2 times in that 3rd quarter. I think he got shook up before half, and RV limited his play in the 3rd qrt. It was a very well played game for both squads in my opinion. The coaches for both teams did a good job in directing the format for the second half. These two teams are very good, and about even imo. One thing for sure. Ridgeview could not stop Chilhowie's Sanchez, and Chilhowie had their hands full with the Adkins kid. BOTH Blevins ( CHS ) and Sexton ( RV) did very well also. The QB's had a good game, and so did the D's. It was a benefit game, and all in attendance got the benefit of watching 2 good teams play.
  7. No question JI Burton and Chilhowie are both two good football teams. Both have played quality opponents, and did well. BOTH are athletic and well coached. JIB is probably bigger than Chilhowie, but CHS probably has more speed and depth. BOTH have very good skill players. Chilhowie plays a lot of people, with very few players going both on O and D, which is practically unheard of in 1A or maybe even in 2A. This game may be closer than expected. Chilhowie 34 Burton 21.
  8. Any team with a roster of about 40, and 20 of those 40 are Seniors usually are going to have a pretty good team. I am not talking about Chilhowie. I am talking about Marion. Yes, about half of Marion's team are Seniors. Chilhowie better not sleep on Marion, or they will get their butt whipped. Chilhowie had better be in the right frame of mind, or it could be a long night. Anything is possible in this rival.
  9. This should be another good game between these two Smyth County rivals. Marion has won the last 2 games, with last year's game being a 21-16 win at Chilhowie. Last Friday, Marion beat Rural Retreat, and Chilhowie lost to Ridgeview in benefit games. I look for another close game this year. Marion fans seem to be pretty quiet this year. Chilhowie may give Marion a little closer game this year. Enough said.
  10. 1. Chilhowie 2.Hurley 3.Grundy 4.Galax 5.PH 6.GW 7. JIB 8.TW 9.Castlewood 10. RR / Narrows / Eastside
  11. Chilhowie dominated Honaker on both O and D. I left early. It was Chilhowie with 11 Td's to Honakers 1 TD. Chilhowie scored on every possession. Both teams had about 40 dressed. Chilhowie looked good. Honaker has some work to do, but has potential to improve. The Chilhowie / Ridgeview benefit game May be a slobber knocker friday night.
  12. I remember when Coach Clark came to Chilhowie in 1980. He was a young man full of energy and immediately captivated the community with his knowledge and whitt. He was a character, and fun to be around......never a dull moment. I recall him getting down in the offensive line with the other lineman ( without a helmet or pads) and showing them the the technique he wanted. I recall him eating a live grasshopper at Northwood, just to get the kids reactions and to fire them up. No doubt, the man was one of a kind. Coach Clark came to Chilhowie in an old Chevy pickup up truck, and a shirt on his back. His apartment had a TV and a lawn chair. He was and still is a great man of the game. I wish him the very best I in his retirement. God speed, Coach Clark.
  13. Congratulations to Gate City HS. You humbled a team that was undefeated, Radford & Ricky!
  14. I think you need to take some aspirin and chill out about the Warriors good season before you have a heart attack. Not sure what you got against Chilhowie, but it sure does get under your skin. Have a nice day, My Friend
  15. Sorry, I thought he was a Freshman. Just the same, my point was Chilhowie didn't have their regular QB in that game. And he did do a great job for his first start in a Varsity game.
  16. I knew Chilhowie would give Galax a good game, but there was a lot of folks that thought Chilhowie would get blasted by Galax. This is a special group of kids on that Chilhowie team. They do not have quit in them. I don't think they are finished just yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, Chilhowie did lose to GW, but for those who don't follow the Warriors, Chilhowie QB was injured for that game, so Chilhowie played a Freshman at QB, and that young man did a good job.
  17. Chilhowie football Coach Chad Johnson's mother died unexpectedly Saturday. Please pray for Coach Johnson and his family during this difficult time. May God Bless the Johnson family.
  18. Chilhowie will take on Galax next week with the winner going to Salem for a shot at the state title. Galax will be a heavy favorite, but Chilhowie will give it their best shot. My guess is Galax 35 Chilhowie14. I hope I am wrong, but the Warriors are the new kid on the block and Galax will probably run wild.
  19. I give thanks to our Lord for all the blessings he has given us. I pray that our Father will watch over us all and protect us from harm each day. May he bless our children provide them with a loving and caring home. I ask this in the name of our Lord, Amen.
  20. JIB will play Chilhowie for the second time Saturday at Chilhowie for the Region D 1A Championship. It should be a very good game, as both teams have improved since week 2. Chilhowie 28 JI Burton 24
  21. Is see Hurley playing with a lot of pride and determination. Sure they are not the same team as last years squad, but from what I have seen on tape, their QB is an outstanding player. If Chilhowie plays up to their potential, Chilhowie should win by several scores. You have to tip your hat to Hurley High School folks. Hurley has 175 students in their school, and here they are playing again for a chance of Regional title. That in itself tells me something about the character of Hurley's squad. Congratulations to both squads for making it this far, and we pray for no injuries.
  22. Marion vs Union should be a good game. Union probably has the advantage of overall talent, but Marion has the advantage of being one of the best coached teams in SWVA, Imo. We all know about Mitchell, and how he can take control of a game, but Marion's K. Ford is no joke. The kid can play the game. Marion's D will keep them in the game, but I see Union taking control as the game progresses. Union 28 Marion 17. Best of luck to both squads, and we hope no injuries.
  23. Coach Robinson and staff have done a very good job this year at Chilhowie. The players have responded to his challenges, and their play has shown the results. Chilhowie has improved a lot from mid season on. That is something that is different this year, imo. Even though Chilhowie has played good ball, very few have given them any respect. That's just fine. I think they will get their respect on the field. As for the game with Hurley, it should be a good game. Hurley has another good team this year, maybe not as strong as last year's team, but a darn good team. Chilhowie and Hurley love the running game, and that is what we will probably see. I have not seen Hurley this year, but Chilhowie will not take them lightly. If they do, then it is basketball time. Best of luck to both squads.
