Galax is definetely down this year. They start 2 freshmen and 3 sophmores on defense . There QB is learning and is getting his first starts. Their defense has given up too many points and two close games (Fort, Graham) has showed their lack of experience to close games out like a seasoned defense would. There passing game is no threat and defense's should be able to key in on their RB's (People brothers). Their LB core is much less physical and more importantly less experienced than last year. Clintwood should return to title game and odds are they will repeat. Think Galax will be a much improved team next year as their defense gets experience under their belts. Like to see one of the top 4 in the MED make a deep run in playoff's this year. Good luck to Graham, Fort, Grayson and Galax!:)

Who would of thought with less than 2 min to play and Galax up 36-21 that Fort pull's this one off. Galax has nothing to be ashamed of...Ft Chiswell is a tough environment. Play of the game is the onside kick with less than minute in the game that led to Fort's score. Congratulations to both teams for a fantastic game. Galax is young and can learn from this heartbreaking loss.

I also listened to this game online (WXBM, I think) while watching another game. I think it was 14-7 at the half. Sounds like a few fumbles lost was a big game changer according to what the radio announcers were saying, and what I listened too. That being said, Clintwood still pulled this off on the road and those fumbles are part of the game. Don't think the score really reflected how close this game could have been. I think Clintwood has the experience and coaching to get them back to the title game once again...but there is still alot of football left to play. Good luck to both teams.

Did not see this game but details from Roanoke.com source: http://www.roanoke.com/timesland/schoolschedule.aspx?syid=9&sid=1&school=125348&team=71 FLOYD -- Dorian Harris had 21 carries for 122 yards and two touchdowns, and Mary Bary completed eight of 15 passes for 146 yards and two more scores, as the Buffaoles (1-1) took advantage of six Galax turnovers -- four interceptions and two recovered fumbles -- to hold off the Maroon Tide (1-1). Floyd County led 20-0 at the half, but Galax, led by Donte Peoples' 196 rushing yards and two scores, closed the deficit to 20-14 early in the fourth quarter. However, a 51-yard pass from Bary to Cole Worrell gave the Buffaloes some cusion, and then Harris topped off the night by returning an interception 53 yards for another TD. Galax rushed for 304 yards, but had just 2 passing yards.

Although Graham's score against Galax was 45-14 ( I think), Graham played fast on defense, and the score was a little misleading. If they did not lose too much, I think they will be a pleasant surprise and should be competive in the MED this year.

According to the political mouthpieces....Virginia will definetly be a major swing state. We'll need all of the Virginia electorate to vote, therefore cast your chad(s), early and often ;0)

Illegal immigrants have access to grants and 12 states are offering them (as of 2011), and I am sure that more states are offering them now. It's ridiculous! Section 505 of the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 (Title 8, Chapter 14, Sec. 1623(a)) states: “an alien who is not lawfully present in the United States shall not be eligible on the basis of residence within a State (or a political subdivision) for any postsecondary education benefit unless a citizen or national of the United States is eligible for such a benefit (in no less an amount, duration, and scope) without regard to whether the citizen or national is such a resident.â€

I could easily support it. I just think about the trillion we gave out to bail out the banks. How about our wasted monies to companies that have gone belly up lately too. Investing in our people makes alot more sense in the long run. Those students eventually earn more which translates to more tax revenue. I say it's a good investment in people who deserve a "hand-up" instead of a the "hand-out" that is likely to pay off in the long run.

Quite an accomplishment for these young men. They also were runner-up State champs in football too...came down to the last play against Clintwood. That's gonna be tough to follow for future maroon tider's.

Galax big man, Parsons, in foul trouble in the second half and warms the bench. Shooting guard Austin Pack also in foul trouble and spends alot of time on the bench in the 4th. Small forward D. George steps up when two starters are in foul trouble in 3rd & 4th period (George 19 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals.) Castlewood played good defense, and shot 44% in 1st half and 31% in second half. Period 1: Galax 15 Castlewood 4 @ Half: Galax 24 Castlewood 22 Period 3: Galax 41 Castlewood 29 Final: Galax 53 Castlewood 44 Congratulations to Castlewood on a nice season. Castlewood is the team that took Galax out at this same point a couple years ago (albeit with a different group).

Covington girls play good defense and Galax only scores 5 points entire 2nd half (0 points in 3rd & 5 points in 4th). Covington wins 39 to 23. Congratulations to Covington for a dominating performance.
