I love this Gameday guy. Every time he posts it's always entertaining. David Crockett in Jonesborough would beat any team in SWVA handily.

We're gonna have to back all that up a day now thanks to the snow. This is going to bring up a big four day stretch for GC, with games vs Ridgeview, @ Union, and @ TN High.

Yes I do. Every team has their bad apples, but wow. That's all I'll say.

GC definitely didn't play their A game, mainly on the defensive end, but got away with it. Gave up way too many open outside shots and Floyd took advantage, especially in the 3rd quarter. Barnes had a good game coming back from injury, and McClung hit some big shots down the stretch.

Mt. Zion beat Elev8 76-68. This was my first time checking out the Chance Harman Classic. Really cool event for a great cause. Would highly recommend it to someone who hasn't gone before.

Wayne blows out Tift tonight to win the title. Pretty surprising that there was this big of a point spread, but Wayne was a really good basketball team.

Yeah I was disappointed with them. Goodin is a beast but the rest of the team looked pretty mediocre.

I've been to the Arby's for many years now and Tift County is one of the most athletic teams from top to bottom that I've ever seen here. Their big guy got hurt tonight in the 2nd Q but they found a way to still beat N. Mecklenburg. Tee Higgins (Oak Ridge) and Quentin Goodin (Taylor Co.) are also crazy athletic.

The tourney starts tomorrow afternoon. If you've never been I highly recommend checking it out this year. Pretty strong field with Tift County, Oak Ridge, St. James, Wayne, and the returning champ N. Mecklenburg. GC and Union are both undefeated, but have some insane first round matchups. Should be a fun few days of basketball at Viking Hall.

GC had a really solid outing at Abingdon on Friday, but then looked a little sluggish tonight vs Tennessee High. I'd like to think GC grew up a bit tonight as they kept their calm and held on to a 62-55 win.

Gate City and TN High has been a little hot and cold early and GC got a couple of starters banged up in the Abingdon game, so I have no clue what to expect tonight in GC. Been really impressed with Union early. Knew they'd be great but they're off to a really solid start. The Martinsville/Radford game should be great. I'd have to guess Martinsville will eventually pull it out, but both teams are really solid.

I hate this type of thinking. Sure GC has had a ton of basketball success across SWVA over the last 15-20 years, but that doesn't mean anything is guaranteed. This type of attitude is what gets you beat. It took an incredible game versus Union last year for GC to make it out of the conference.

A lot of good tonight, and some issues for GC to fix. I really want to give credit to Honaker though. Showed a lot of fight after getting down early and never let GC put the game away. The Robinette kid is a beast. Think he had 36 tonight to give Honaker a chance to win late. Really good game.

I'm definitely not overlooking anyone. Heck, GC hasn't even had a scrimmage yet. I didn't mention Ridgeview specially just because, well they've never played a game together. They're a complete unknown as far as I'm concerned. The only thing I know for sure is that RIdgeview basketball has a very nice gym to play in. Best of luck to you guys.

Gate City is returning a ton of experience, but their best player or two may be underclassmen in McClung and Ervin. Union hardly lost anything from last year, and Mitchell is poised for a strong sophomore season. GC and Union should produce some really fun matchups in the CMC. Don't count out VA High, but it should be between GC and Union. In C-39 I expect Richlands to run away with. Like Ryan said, Richlands returns pretty much everyone from a solid team last year. I think far SWVA will catch up this year, but we're still going to have a hard time beating Martinsville if any of us wants to win the region. They've been so strong the last few years and return 5 seniors.

Yup Herron didn't play last year and Collier was about 50%, although it wouldn't have mattered in the results. In 2013 we had about 10 starters suspended due to a scandal. That one was pretty bad. And then we don't speak of the 2012 season in GC haha. I'd say Bluefield is probably a 3-4 TD favorite this time. I think GC is getting better and doing some things right, but we still have a ways to go. Hope both teams have a clean game and get out healthy.

Yup was probably one of the parents of our 40 recruits that year haha. But in all seriousness for those farther up in SWVA that don't get down here much, Kingsport is like a 5 minute drive so there some GC students (not just athletes) that come over, usually because there parents went to GC. I'd say maybe around one out of every twenty or so kids. It's not nearly as huge of a deal as some people make it out to be.

Completely agree. The old GCTV (Channel 30) crew really had it together. A lot of those people left around 2000 and then it all kind of fell apart around 2010. It's thanks to them that collecting some of this old footage is even possible.

Shoemaker and Gate City were different schools. Shoemaker High school was in a different part of GC and had a fire in the 50s. They then built GC where it is now and built back Shoemaker as an elementary school. I personally wouldn't have counted it (although their results are in my database), but that's probably the same debate as we'll have with the consolidated schools.

I have a slightly different record than the one on VHSL Reference. I have Gate City at 579-250-15. However, it should be noted that Gate City High is currently at 498 wins. Shoemaker High went 81-81-9.
