  1. Except in spring sports, and that's always been at Radford which is in our back door. I think it's great swva gets to host 1a and 2 a bi-yearly. But for a change, I see their complaint with quarter finals game locals. It's not fair
  2. LOL I had the same mental thought but did not ask this. I do get what both sides are saying though. MM is on another level, literally, when it comes to basketball here. He is probably bored, blah blah blah. Dunks and shooting deep 3s I'm cool with regardless of score and competition level. That is part of the game. A hard cross over or even a behind the back dribble or through the legs is a part of the game. When you have the teams 10th best player off the bench in a 30 point game guarding MM and this flashy stuff happens I see people's complaint though. Not really the 17 year old kids fault though. He crosses up Mitchell and he falls to the ground I have no complaints. Or even in a close game... that is basketball. But when the game is well in hand and the flashy stuff is still going on then it becomes questionable. That is my take on it.
  3. I think they should have had Quarters on Tuesday and let the top seed host two games at one location and the 3/4 travel. Example: In 1A boys, Radford/GW host the 3/4 seed from east on Tuesday at Va High while Honaker/Eastside travel to East 1/2 seed (like JMU or VCU). Winners then travel to Va High for games on Saturday as scheduled. I really feel the top seeds from the East are hindered and at a disadvantage.
  4. I get that the travel basketball/AAU is much better competition but I would argue it is not "true" basketball. AAU is not about winning... it is about being exposed. Who cared if you go 0-4 over the weekend or 4-0. You will have Coach K, cal, roy, self there watching you toss in 50+ and a handful of assists/rebounds is all they are focused on. Games are gloried pick up games and a ton of calls are often ignored to assist with the flow of the game. Sure any kid who plays travel ball gets upset over "ticky tack" calls or even calls they are not called in summer. But they get used to calls being ignored in summer and suddenly calls are being made in winter are frustrating. This is no slight to MM... I have never seen him visibly upset over a call. This is a shot at travel ball/AAU.
  5. I mean I guess your "inside source" is more reliable... My understanding was the county influential people "named" the school Ridgeview but the kids selected the mascot. Wolfpack was the run away victor due to the second movie coming out around the same time as the school mascot being chosen. Difference of opinion, but I also "know for a fact" that the kids voted on wolfpack as a joke. Whatever you want to believe about your county man. If it helps you guys to think it was chosen for it being a "cool mascot" good for y'all. I still think there is no shame in it. NCST makes do with the mascot...
  6. False. They allowed the kids to toss suggestions out for mascots and names. The kids all rallied around the wolfpack idea because of the movie. Social media assisted this a lot. They modeled that from Wise County when they selected their school names and mascots. They let the kids have "input' since it would be them attending the schools.
  7. Whether people like it or not, Ridgeview's mascot was chosen as a joke. When selecting it, the movie "The Hangover" was wildly popular... They had a few different mascots and Wolfpack won as a joke. Wolkpack is not a terrible mascot though... Central Warrior/Eastside Spartans are the most generic names ever. Union Bears have a tad bit of character though.
  8. Could have swore I heard in the radio he got one in the Chatham game. Maybe I miss heard. Did you attend?
  9. Didn't he get one in the Chatham game and DR game?
  10. Thoughts? What does Amelia Co. look like and what type of basketball they play? Do they run a lot, post heavy, zone or man, Anyone have anything?
  11. Isn't Lee a big team? The way GC rebounded against DR is problematic. Regardless it will be a good game. I still think GC is the best team in 2A so im going to pick them to win. Who cares by how much.
  12. 28?! Unreal... did DR not do their homework or are they trying and just simply cannot?
  13. I will say the new format next year is steps taken back in the right direction.
  14. You are correct. But still got this lose 2 games and win state garbage.
  15. I really dislike the current format. With that said, GC by 10.
  16. What is the criteria for taking a charge by rule book? I always see on TV and things and it is a tough call to make it seems. College being the one place it is called more frequently. I cant see the things needed for it to be a charge or not.
  17. Hasn't it been like that always though (besides football) back in the old region 1-4/region a-d you could lose the region championship and still win state. Losing two games in post season is still winning state is mind boggling. One is somewhat comprehensible. The warriors did blow a 3-1 lead though... lol
  18. Quarter finals were added recently again after they "done away" with. VH$L saw they could make some more cash by reinstating the traditional quarterfinals. How would you decide now? Quarter finals are now the region semi final games. loser goes home. Winner plays for region championship. Winner of region champion plays other region runner up. Example: Richlands beats Chatham and GC beats DR. Robert E Lee beats Bruton and Madison Co beats Amelia Co. Region championship games would be between Richlands/GC and REL/MC. Lets say GC beats Richlands and REL beats mad co. Mad co would travel to GC and Richlands would travel to REL. Winner of those games would play for state championship. I do believe this is how it was when the VH$L split into current system a few years ago. Realizing they could add another game to make money they did that. Plus people were complaining due to the "quarter finals" being done away with. Hope that makes sense to you all...
  19. I wonder the same. All things considered, Richlands should knock off Chatham. GC has a big task in knocking of DR but I think they should. I look for the game to be played at UVAW. Above average crowd there.
  20. This game is the best game on schedule tonight IMO. It is a real crap shoot. Anyone could win and I do not think any one team has the edge over the other. I'd give Union the edge though since they have been playing pretty decent while Richlands has been fluttering as of late. I feel like all that is going to change thought tonight. Richlands fighting for that ever so elusive first Region win (Hard to believe). Basically, winner get an easy draw for the next game... well easier. You won't see Mavahi! haha
  21. GC clearly the favorite but ball is really in Graham's court IMO. GC will do what GC does and score lots of points. Ball really is in Graham's court (not literally). If this young bunch rolls into GC's hostile atmosphere and feeds off it, executes the game plan, and matches scoring with the high powered GC offense this thing could get wild quick. Deep down, I got GC by 10ish points. But could very well be anything.
  22. In order of the best IMO, Richlands, GC, Honaker, and Eastside.
