You are probably right. I have been out of the SWVA loop for a while. But the Central Woodstock football coach did make that same statement after they lost to Lee.
I didn’t go. I’m shocked at the outcome. What happened. I’ve saw graham play twice this year. Was not super impressed with them. Have seen gc play plenty. Always sloppy in first qtr then hit their stride. Seems like graham figured out something that worked. Great coaching. Funny on Twitter how a central coach was claiming the real championship game was last night 😂. Anyway, I’m guessing Scotty will make the needed adjustments if a rematch happens. I don’t think an upset happens twice. But for the time being...congrats graham. Go celebrate.
I have seen Central play 3 times this year and they COULD win it all. But I doubt it. Their football coach said the exact same thing after Lee beat them in the playoffs. Something in the water up in Woodstock!
Well, they shook hands with the Graham players, accepted their trophy for runner-up and then went to the locker room. Just because they didn't pose for a team picture doesn't mean that is classless. They didnt accomplish what they had set out to do last weekend so they didn't feel like taking a picture.
As long as they stayed on the court to accept their runner up trophy and congratulated the opponent, no need to hang around for a pic with a runner up trophy. Radford only hangs state title banners...I like that.
In '10, James River won the 2A state and Madison County won the 1A but Madison had about 200 more students than JR. The year before, Dan River-Radford-Madison-James River composed the 2A final four.
I really don't get all the vitriol towards this kid. I saw him in the state tourney last year and he was the best player at JMU. He scored almost at will at times. He shared the ball (a little too much IMHO). His defense was not the thing legends are made of but he was no slouch either. His height (or lack there of) was about the only negative thing I saw...and there ain't much to do about that. I never saw an iota of non-sportsmanship from him...especially for kid who has that kind of hops.
And I am NOT a GC fan in any way or fashion...but that kid does not deserve the BS spewed by folks like Truther.
I said Appo is 21 pts better than anyone else in AA this year. Should I retract that statement? Check this out......and I know, it's tough to go by common opponents and score matching to assess a team, but as fans, it's still fun to do. Check this out...
Appo vs Dan River. Appo wins 34-21 at Dan River. Last night, Glenvar 38-0 over Dan River at Glenvar. I think Dan River is a rival game for Appo, but still, those 2 scores are a huge, huge difference in common opponents, and favoring Glenvar.
Appo vs Fork Union. Appo wins 49-36 at Appomattox. Fort Union vs 2A, Region A 1 seed Goochland who finished 9-1, Goochland won 32-0. Again, common opponent, but dramatic difference in score favoring Goochland.
Maybe Appo can be beat. I hope so.
Goochland played the actual FUMA prep high school team. Appo played the prep/post grad team...according to Scrimmage play. Not apples to apples...if this kind of comparison matters (and it does not).
Hope the a**holes are caught. Just read an article in the NVA Daily that someone sprayed Clarke County HS football field with grass killer or some chemical. The grass is dead in numerous places now.
Since that Northam ad ran depicting Gillespie supporters as chasing down immigrant children in a 4X4 with a Confederate Flag, NUMEROUS Gilespie signs have been popping up, even in NOVA. Maybe there is hope...
What was it, a couple years ago, that VHS went to Richlands and lost a playoff game that they did everything but win? I can see another game like that...hope not but recent history is not on Bearcats side.
Had the chance to get back to Bristol Friday night. Caught the second half of the Marion game. Bearcats actually looked like a good football team...not just a bunch of athletes who happen to play football. Crist is doing a great job. Just hope some of the old booster meddling doesn't crop up...again.
I travel in NOVA almost daily of late. If yard signs are any indication, Gillespie is wasting his money. I mean there are NO Gillespie signs to be seen. Looks like the energy is for Northam...unfortunately. So it probably means that Gillespie wins 90 counties but looses because of NOVA.
Forgive him...that VHS is still in the playoff convo this late in the season is affecting the collective Bristolian mindset...No one younger than 50 remembers when VHS was halfway decent on the gridiron so it is a bit intoxicating.
Well dang it. Just when I thought VHS may make the jump to "somewhat relevant" in football, they get hammered. I still think they are better than this game's outcome indicates. Congrats to Graham though...I am an old SW District fan.
For those interested in other parts of the state...Central Woodstock just beat Clarke Co 40-0 (at CC on homecoming no less). I was thinking Clarke was in the state 2A title hunt.
