Guest BB_TWEEDER Report Share Posted July 18, 2005 Well it isnt that hard to judge if you had the ball 10 plays and they had the ball 10 plays, if you score 4 out of those 10 plays and they score 4 out of 10 plays then you can consider that score a pretty even game. Guest BB_TWEEDER Report Share Posted July 18, 2005 But if neither teams scores then its (in my opinion) just your own call on who ever had the better game. Now some one earlier said " Grundy plays sub-par Ky. teams" Grundy plays team there level (and some teams better) the same as Hurley plays teams their level (and some teams better) I dont think there is much diff between a good D 2 single A and a smaller AA, but I do think there is a major diff. between D 1 A and AA. Mouse 10 Report Share Posted July 18, 2005 Stephen Baker will need to play as he did when he was a Freshman killen people havent seen that out of him the past two years. He will be the main core of the D# if he plays like he can! Another one is Holden Raines who could make a big impact on D# and Offense. biggamesjames 18 Report Share Posted July 18, 2005 I agree Colley is a good coach but he is usually only as good as his talent, he is gonna beat you when he has more talent but rarely does when he has less...the team Haysi had in '91 was talented enough to win it all but wasn't ready for a surprise 3 man front that Lebanon threw at them in the state playoff game, Lebanon played a prevent pass defense with 8 defensive backs to stop the pass the whole game but Haysi couldn't adjust and never got the running game going against only 3 down lineman. Â In '96 they had some studs studs and played well on defense most of the year but because they didn't have anyone to play QB Colley for some reason decided to try and run the single wing offense and no one on the team had a clue about it...ended up not even running plays out of it but just snapping it to Tim Hackney every time and letting him run, probably the worst job Colley ever did as a coach. They did manage to play well against Grundy that year and hold Greg Tester to like 49 yards in the regular season win against Hurley but by the 2nd time they met in the playoffs Hurley had figured out what to do against the "complicated" snap it to one guy offense Haysi was running and everyone just stayed in their zones...when the "sophisticated" plan didnt work Haysi tried to let their fullback John Salyers get in shotgun and pass but he ended up throwing about 4 int's and threw a couple more up in the stands, so that went out the window, it was ludicrous..i was never more upset with Haysi's coaching staff than in '96. That team had the talent to go 9-1 or 10-0 and beat one of the best AA teams in the state but threw it away on a completely watered down version of the single wing. biggamesjames 18 Report Share Posted July 18, 2005 I wasn't there and I don't know, I was just passing along what Clintwood fans said on LPD forum...they were less than impressed with Grundy and several of them commented that Grundy couldn't have beat Haysi, GC or PV. wavefan64 10 Report Share Posted July 18, 2005 I for one do not think we played to our full potential in that game, and didn't until around the Graham game. I think in the later weeks, we would have beaten any A team that you would have threw at us. Heck, Powell Valley was beaten by a KY. team, Breathitt County, and they were on a supposed down year this past year. For god sakes, how can you judge how good a team is if they have only practiced two weeks?
biggamesjames 18 Report Share Posted July 18, 2005 "JMarcum, it seems like we didn't play to our later potential in that game. I don't think Clintwood would have held a light to us in the later games." Â When did Grundy reach their later potential? In first round of the playoffs against VA High? If you call getting ousted in the 1st round of the playoffs by a team that if they had they been single A Division 2 wouldn't have even made the playoffs reaching your potential?, then i think Clintwood would have been just fine. Guest BB_TWEEDER Report Share Posted July 18, 2005 Down year for Breathitt County is like a 8-2 or 9-1 year for Anyteam around here. A down year for Breathitt County is not making the State semis for crying out loud so dont for one min say that Powell Valley didnt play a top team in Breathitt County! jmarcum 10 Author Report Share Posted July 18, 2005 I think you took that wrong. He didnt mean any disrespect toward Brethitt(sorry if msp). They are a good team year in and year out.
Grundy10 10 Report Share Posted July 18, 2005 They were beat by Prestonsburg, a "cupcake" team Grundy had on the schedule a few years ago, in the Playoffs I think.
wisecav72 10 Report Share Posted July 19, 2005 Good god man. i was a freshman when we played prestonburg, and i have to say that overall, thats the hardest hitting game ive ever seen. and most of you, most of you, dont bite my head off over that statement, but most of you all say that kentucky isnt any good in football. blah. lol. Â [/ QUOTE ] Â Why do you have to bring that crap up man, yeah, so what, we lost. You didn't even MAKE the playoffs. The only way that you all have made the playoffs in the last few years was by beating cupcake teams. Rye Cove and Ervinton? Man, those sure are powerhouses. Grundy's Middle School team of a few years ago could beat half of your schedule. Yeah, Colley is a hell of a coach, no question about that. You all have some good skill positions, I am not knocking you there. You all got lucky against Honaker in 2003, and made it into the playoffs..name 3 other quality teams that were on your schedule. No team in the LPD besides PV and GC, who should be AA would be competitive in the SWD..As for the BDD, don't kid yourself. Haysi and Honaker usally have tough teams, but there is a big difference between our districts...plain and simple. P.S. We started playing good team ball around Week 6.... Â BB- Breathitt Co. is a Kentucky powerhouse, year in and year out, and they were not as good as usual this past year, they were beaten in one heck of a game against Prestonsburg, that myself and MR_Pritime somehow tuned into on his radio..lol.. Â Cotton, I also heard from a few players that played in that game that Prestonsburg would hit...They came downhill the whole 48 minutes. You have to love playing a team like that. biggamesjames 18 Report Share Posted July 19, 2005 Sorry if I hit a sore spot dude...seems you are a little sensitive about the subject i mentioned. Didn't mean to disrespect Grundy in any way...I have relatives who played at Grundy and they are the team I always follow 2nd behind Haysi. I root for them year in year out but I just got a little perturbed at some of the over the top preposterous comments some of your fellow Grundy brethren were making...I could come back and say yeah Haysi didn't make the playoffs last year but if they were in AA Division 3 both they and Clintwood would have, but its beside the point. Anyway looks like you guys are getting a little fired up for the Haysi game this year and if so thats great!...forget Pittsburgh and West Virginia in the backyard brawl, how bout Grundy and Haysi baby! Â Good luck the upcoming season and I hope you guys finish 13-1 and win a state championship...but ofcourse hoping the one loss is to Haysi
wisecav72 10 Report Share Posted July 19, 2005 lol, if grundy wins a state title, ill crap a golden egg with happiness. lol. but is the game at haysi or grundy. ill go nomatter where it is, but since i live like 10 minutes away from haysi, it be a much shorter drive. its weird, i live like 10 minutes away from haysi high school, and rode the bus an hour to go to grundy, lol. but yeah, that prestonburg-grundy game was a good one, me and hipps were talking bout it the other day, they gave us a run for our money, but i did like their feild, when you kick an extra poin or feild goal on one end, you have a good shot at hittin a car on the freeway, lol, i think ole dillon reece did hit a car on an extra point. Grundy10 10 Report Share Posted July 19, 2005 Paintsville is the same way with the extra points and field goals....I always like going to the places like that...Mitchell Stadium is a good place for kickers also...I love kicking them over the concession stand..hahaha
wisecav72 10 Report Share Posted July 19, 2005 lol, yeah, mitchell is a good one for that, i rememeber when dillon busted a winsheild out one night. lol, but ive never seen a feildd built 2 feet from a 4 lane highway like the one in prestonburg. biggamesjames 18 Report Share Posted July 19, 2005 Well you must live pretty close to where I grew up...my parents live near the Buchanan County line...I almost transferred to Grundy my freshman year, talked to the coaches and everything but at that time Grundy's football program wasn't quiet up to par with Haysi's so decided to stay with the Tigers.
