mrb 26 Report Share Posted June 14, 2010 Richlands picked up 3 players this year Lockart, 8th grader from christian school, and who else. The kid from the christian school is going to be on varsity at 6' 2" and sticky hands.
Lance 228 Author Report Share Posted June 14, 2010 Josh Hess. Thats him...if he ever gets a mean streak in him...look out for that kid...D1 prospect in the making. I heard Grundy was running the single wing this year...could be interesting.

He spent this past weekend at the "Ultimate 100" camp in New Jersey.
Gym 10 Report Share Posted June 14, 2010 (edited) Richlands will of course be the favorite, but they need to put somebody on their schedule that will give them a game. They get in the state simifinals or finials and have to play a whole game. The players aren't used to any close games. I know Honaker is a rivalry game, but drop them and play someone big. No offense to Honaker they are a quality program. They aren't the big AA school that RHS will see in the playoffs though. I would like to see Richlands drop one of the single A teams and pick up someone along the likes of Christiansburg. The bad thing is that single has been our stongest competion in the regular season, go figure.
Gym 10 Report Share Posted June 14, 2010 Thats true Gate City and Powell Valley are always tough. I just wish they would look at the bigger picture and have a game against Salem or someone like that.
BigD4VT 11 Report Share Posted June 14, 2010 Thats true Gate City and Powell Valley are always tough. I just wish they would look at the bigger picture and have a game against Salem or someone like that. The thing about scheduling someone like Salem is getting them to come here. They have no reason to. They have all the competition they need close to home. It's natural to look at the non-district schedule and see the single-A games as a weakness... but that's honestly not the case. Since 2004 Richlands has lost 12 games... 6 non district losses... 5 post-season losses... and ONE district loss. So as you can see, the weakest part of the schedule has been the SWD. Well, the 2011 schedule will look different with Grundy and Lebanon replaced the Patrick Co. and Pulaski Co. I was told RHS tried to schedule Cave, Christiansburg or Blacksburg but couldn't get the scheduling to match up. So, maybe things are changing. I believe it will be better for the program to play as many quality AA teams as possible.
Lance 228 Author Report Share Posted June 14, 2010 I think the secret is probably out on him now. He already has D-1 interest. He spent this past weekend at the "Ultimate 100" camp in New Jersey. thats awesome...hope he stays healthy and makes it...from what I saw of him he has the size and good speed for a big guy, but didn't seem to be that aggressive...he was getting down on the LB's all night but just kinda pushed them around instead of crushing them...but, I kinda wrote that off to him being a youngster...figure that will come with time...just his size and speed he had for his size stood out to me. swvasport_7 10 Report Share Posted June 18, 2010 I think some people are just a little to high on Grundy so far....I have seen some people post on here 2nd place and I just don't see that happening. Although there bringing back everybody from last year they still have alot of questions and holes. They still need some O-Line help, Tanner Marshall is one of the better lineman in the district...but after that they get a little thin. Plus there run game in SWD play was hardly nothing...they put up some great stats aganist East Ridge, Twin Valley and Matewan but not aganist the real teams. I know there bringing back everybody from last year but that team only won one district game in the SWD. There is also talk that there moving J. Kelly from QB to TE, I don't know why since he has started at QB for the past 3 years but I have heard that. I would say Grundy will finish either 4th or 5th in the district with 2 or 3 wins in district play.
WaveFan09 50 Report Share Posted June 18, 2010 nonsense!, Grundy will be one of the most experienced squads returning with only losing Ellis and O'quinn...with the rest of the district losing a lot..mark it down..it'll be a good year for the Golden Wave. Lance 228 Author Report Share Posted June 18, 2010 Grundy puts the best team on the field since the 9-2 team of 2004...that part I have no doubt about...how well they will be able to do is another question...I could see them going 9-0 in to the last game against Richlands....and I could see them at 5-4 as well if they don't take care of business in the SWD. There are way to many unknowns right now...assuming that all the coaches are back, and i think they will be...then you have to overcome the Plymal factor...if they can stick to running the ball (like Rowe likes to do) and stay away from all the silly formations and stuff Plymal likes to do...then they will be good to go. I don't see moving Kelly around as a problem...he's a good QB and has experience...but he has a few issues with holding on to the ball too long and sort of floating around outside of the pocket at times looking down the field ....and takes a lot of hard hits from behind as a result...loss of yards and turnovers possible...he is not the fastest kid either, although once he gets it going, he does run hard...if Grundy has a mobile QB they can swap in and out of in the huddle and not have to run them in and out just to QB, so people wont know who the QB is until you get under center or maybe later than that depending on the play....then I think that could open up a few things....I think Kelly should be the main QB though. from what i've heard there are a few changes this year with the offense, which is good...and they have picked up a couple of big linemen that didn't play last year...which is good...and they have a lot of experience back at every position...which is good...and from what i've heard they have been working out hard this off season...which is really good....so, when you do good things then you see good results most of the time....so I'm looking for a good year out of the Wave...first time in a long time. Plus...it's going to be fun to see people playing against the single wing.
Canes00 434 Report Share Posted June 18, 2010 Marion is used to playing against the single wing since we play Northwood every year but Grundy has better athletes than Northwood does.

WaveFan09 50 Report Share Posted June 19, 2010 sorry, forgot this was all about Richlands, not a doubt in my mind they will finish on top, but you never know.. I see it this way 1st-Richlands 2nd-Grundy 3rd-Carroll 4th-Graham 5th-Tazewell 6th-Marion 7th-Abingdon
rowdyredrebel 10 Report Share Posted June 19, 2010 I've been hearing that there are some last minute transfers coming to Grundy, are there any truth to this Lance? If so, who and where from, and will it benefit the team putting them up little closer to the top with Richlands?
