Oh, I would be delighted to bring that subject up.

Longwood shouldn't have tried to make the jump to Division I when they did. Should've probably stayed D-II for a while longer.

I can imagine if a school like Shippensburg up here, a nice-sized D-II, would make that jump. They'd get slaughtered, a lot like Longwood.

Been through Farmville a few times, and seen Longwood. Nice school. The Rodney Dangerfield of VA schools.

I started at VCU, fresh out of blackhawk school and right around the first anniversary of 9/11...I hated it there. The most artsy metrosexual a-holes who all hate America and want to make some type of non-conformist statement which is conformist in and of itself.

Longwoods a small school, enough that everyone smiles and says hello on the way to class. Classes are smaller and I found the teachers a lot less pretentious and a lot more practical...so I learned more.

Longwood, Beer drinking????

Hahaha...yeah and I guess we are also good at breathing, walking, and updating facebook too. We produce good teachers. Most school systems in VA put Longwood grads at the top of the stack for teacher positions. Pretty good Kinesiology program too from what I understand.

That's VCU for you. I went there twice: the first time, and the last time. Couldn't stand it. If you're going to stick a school right next to the ghetto in downtown Richmond, it better have some damn fine redeeming qualities. I could find little in VCU. You pretty much hit the nail on the head: artsy, metro, "I'm VERY different from everyone and I'm going to show JUST HOW DIFFERENT I AM by joining tons of groups with ALL THE OTHER DIFFERENT PEOPLE!" people. Pass.

Also according to the story on ESPN, the ruling does contain a few restrictions:

Beer sales will end in the middle of the third quarter.

A patron is allowed a maximum of two beers per purchase.

No beer sales in the student section. Mandatory ID checks. And beer will be sold in plastic bottles.

http://espn.go.com/blog/bigeast/post/_/id/20448/west-virginia-will-sell-beer-in-stadium

Also, there will be no re-entry into the stadium once someone leaves. A lot of people like to leave at half time, get liquored up and come back.

They dont have to worry about leaving anymore. They can get all the booze they want in the stadium.

Beer in the Stadium...this should make Holgorsen a happy man!!! Just put a few slot machines in the locker room and he'll feel right at home...

+10 and maybe a keg on the sidelines.

you mad.

Not really, my posting here was simply to illustrate the stupidity in WVUs decision. I dont particularly care for WVU as it has relatively no impact on my interest n sports.

I had never been to any athletic events at a large college or the pros until I went to a Washington Redskins game (they played Buffalo the week Sean Taylor died). Those fans were already drinking heavily at 7 in the morning and didn't stop until they stopped selling alcohol at the end of the 3rd quarter (and I'm sure they went straight for the booze after the game ended). Extremely drunk fans+commercial timeouts=too much time to do stupid things. The police and security were constantly on their toes taking out Skins fans throwing stuff at Bills fans and constantly wanting to fight. I can only imagine what it will be like at a place like WVU (or any major college).

This is a very poor decision; it's like throwing gasoline on a burning fire. I can see something really, really bad coming of this and by then it'll be too late. What does it say about institutions that demand a "dry campus," but yet they exploit alcohol for their own financial gain? It's like the police telling a crackhead they cannot have crack unless it's purchased from the police dept.

That almost exactly the logic behind methodone clinics, but with the added benefit of "we're trying to get you clean". But I digress. And I agree with you.

Anyone else notice that the only people who think this is a good idea are WVU fans????

Personally, I would not want them selling beer at Lane Stadium, if that were ever a topic of conversation...some folks get too drunk as it is, pregame and during the game with what they smuggle in. And truth be told, I am one of those who has been known to enjoy one or two too many during the pregame tailgate (especially when KO is later than Noon). I could only imagine how trashed some folks would be by the fourth quarter if they could continue consuming alcohol during the game legally...it would not be a pretty scene...

It doesn't matter to me anyways. I pregame in the parking lot. I drink to enjoy, not to get smashed at football games (minus beaver-graham).

I sit in the WVU student section since I went to a WVU juco for a year. My card still gets my a student ticket for 10 dollars. Which is nice. But anyways, they said no beer will be allowed in the student section. So I'm 21 (turn 22 on Thursday), yet i'm not allowed to buy a beer and carry it to my seat. Can somebody explain that one to me?

It has its flaws, but the money making factor on this thing is unreal.

Those are my intentions as well, however, sometimes you just "enjoy" a little too much...especially if its a late game and you've been at the tailgate all day, or if its a hot day or a cold night (antifreeze)...

In related news, I will never see a football game in Morgantown, WV. Beer + your fans = disaster.

LOL, really? The worst fans I've ever been around were the snooty goofs of UVA in Charlotte a few years back for a bowl game.

This isn't new, they do heavy drinking in the lot. The idiots you may have been dealing with are probably smart a** students who can't afford too many beers in stadium. This will do nothing but keep some buts in the seats and generate some revenue. I've seen some rowdy fans and if they've crossed the line, they've been removed.

And we all know a couple guys who "enjoy" to levels that need a more extreme word than excess... and in college, that number greatly outweighs the handful of teetotalers.

eeeeeh, not always, a lot of times its the college-aged kids who are local or big fans of the school (ex VaTech) who do this too.

Will it make loads of money? Sure! Is it a terrible idea in myriad ways? Absolutely!

Personally, I value a good atmosphere more than money; the money's always going to be there. If you value the money more, I must say that I strongly disagree, but that we'll agree to disagree.

They are bad, too, but the only thing they try to hurl at you are lame insults...batteries not required...

LOL, well that may be the case. I've seen few incidents of that nature at Mountaineer field, when it did, they were escorted out just like any sports complex.
