eastboundanddown 10 Report Share Posted May 22, 2012 Don't count on schedules coming out til late July. The Ervinton Rebels have been disbanded mid contract year..... So all of the Cumberland (Rye Cove, Thomas Walker, Castlewood, Twin Springs, Eastside) and lets see Twin Valley, Hurley, and a few more will be without a game this year leaving them at 9 and trying to add each other work out dates, and try to sign other schools who are in mid contract and have their home and aways locked up already.... Probably have to go to WV, TN, or KY to get games if they can't get together on the out of district dates Also heard Ervinton stud running back was being courted by James Colley and Clintwood

redtiger 1,741 Report Share Posted May 22, 2012 2 for Haysi? Ervinton and who else? The RB Ervinton will most likley go to Haysi imo. He attended Sandlick until 6-7th grade and his sister went to Haysi. I dont tink he would start on offense at Clintwood, definately on defense but he would be Clintwoods 3rd string RB

swvacsas2 15 Report Share Posted May 23, 2012 Don't think either Clintwood or Haysi will be helped by an influx of Ervinton athletes. Based on Wise County- only about a third of the athletes will continue to participate. Usually there is a sharp drop off in participation after consolidation. Ervinton's numbers were already down. Cancelling the Haysi-Clintwood series is ridiculous. It will do nothing except hurt the gate receipts of the respective schools. Bone-headed for a school division in financial trouble. 1inStripes 932 Report Share Posted May 23, 2012 Hale and Bowen are athletes who I think could help either school in some capacity.
redtiger 1,741 Report Share Posted May 24, 2012 (edited) dropping the Haysi-Clintwood series is rediculious. The athletes from Ervinton that were really dedicated will continue to play sports and frankly those are the only ones I really want at Haysi. For years Ervinton has had football players that only showed up 1-2 days a week for practice and then got to play on friday because of numbers. Those kids can stay home as far as im concerned. I would have to disagree about Bowen being better served at clintwood; hes a smaller kid and not a clintwood style I back, w/ his size and skills(RB/WR type) I think he would fit nicely in Coach Colleys offense, the same goes for Hale. I could see both of them filling the same role Blair did for us last season. Now if Bowen was 5'10 and 190lbs he might get a carry or two a game at Clintwood this season. Both could probably play WR at Clintwood but would only have the ball thrown their way 5-6 times each, they would both be guaranteed 10 - 15 touches a game at Haysi. LOL I disagree Clintwood has had it share of small backs (you have to look on further back than 2010 when Powers was the teams leading rusher tipping the scales at 145 lbs) Also in the last 10 years you have Kenny Dottson and John Michal Fleming (think that was his last name) that not only were sub 150 lbs but also the leading rushers in the LPD the clear choice for a Running back not afraid of competition would be Clintwood
redtiger 1,741 Report Share Posted May 25, 2012 (edited) Kenny was good, as was Fleming but both were out of necesity more than anything(no one else to carry the ball or both would have stayed at WR) and neither was the prototypical Clintwood RB. Against tough competition both struggled because the Greenwave didnt have size on the line to open big gaps and Kenny and Fleming didnt have the size to hammer the ball between the tackles, remember at that time Clintwood wasnt running alot of toss sweep and no option. Both also played WR until their SR years, at a time when Clintwood was throwing the ball to the TE or to no one. Kennys Sr year the leading reciever was Derrick Kendrick the TE(and his numbers werent that great) Its not about being afraid of competition, its about finding a good fit Edited May 26, 2012 by redtiger
Ironlung 10 Report Share Posted May 26, 2012 JMF rarely struggled against anyone. He's got one of the highest yardage totals in the schools history for a season and holds the record for most yards in a game. His lines weren't small either. They weren't as big as this years but were a large solid group.
redtiger 1,741 Report Share Posted May 26, 2012 (edited) I only saw clintwood play twice Flemings SR season(Haysi and Powell Valley), if I remember right he struggled agasinst PV; PV put both DTs in the A gaps and moved the LBs and Safety up closer to the los and Clintwood just kept running the ball between the tackles. The DTs were submarining and the OGs had a hard time pulling, Fleming would hit the los and his lead guard had gotten tied up in traffic. Didnt Clintwood lose bad to Appy that season(04)? Fleming and Kenny were both breakaway threats, if they got a clear gap they were gone! I know for a fact that Kenny would like to have seen Clintwood run a more varied/outside oriented offense, he put up good numbers and didnt really have any terrible games but he took a beating that season(05). Do you think Hale or Bowen would get more than 5 touches a game? imo both would stand a good chance of playing on defense. Ironlung 10 Report Share Posted May 26, 2012 Clintwood beat Appy 49-15 that year. They scored 4 tds against PV in a loss.
redtiger 1,741 Report Share Posted May 26, 2012 (edited) It was '05 that Appy beat Clintwood, not '04? I just remember some friends being very distraught at the loss. Maybe im way off but I was thinking against PV that year Duran Moore scored 1-2 times and 1 was a long pass. I still dont think Fleming had a very good game, but maybe im wrong. Really all I can remember from that game was Brad Robbins having an incredible game(but he did that all season) and PV stacking the los Edited May 26, 2012 by redtiger
