How likely do you all think we'll resume the Korean War? Seems like North Korea is getting dumber and dumber losing all their aid (which they desparately need) by making more and more threats and testing everyone's patience. Heck, even China seems to have had enough of them.

Should've taken the whole peninsula in December 1950 when we had the chance.

this is all just a bunch of hooey.

NK can't and won't do anything...because China and Russia can't protect them if they do...and it would shoot China's economy all to hell if war breaks out again.

Never going to happen.

Straight up war, probably not gonna happen. Some sort of revolution, well thats another story. With the sanctions eventually the people of NK are gonna get tired of it, or eventually $$$ will talk(NK is losing a lot of money with all of this crap) and the people in line to make it will get tired of it. Eventually ventually someone will step up.

In terms of war, NK isint gonna make a move. They cant run with the big dogs and they know it. Imo Jong-Un just likes thinking he is powerful and seeing his face on TV. Not really a treat.

I don't know if an all out revolution would happen in NK. The people there are just so brain washed that they wouldn't dare fight against the government. I'm thinking one of two things might happen: Jong-un will slip up and actually do something that the south just won't take lying down, or there might be someone high enough in the military who would try to start a coup which would basically just confuse everything, leaving the people not sure what to do.

MacArthur was itching to nuke 'em in '50. Truman himmed-and-hawed about it, which gave the North time to get back into the fight.

You have forgotten the one million plus troops China threw into the fray.

I would highly recommend David Halberstam's "The Coldest Winter." He does a great job of laying out the history of the war.

The people of NK are not going to get tired of it Im afraid. They are so deceived in their way of thinking that they think as though what they have now is as good as it gets. Its a complete brain washing of an entire society. Its really amazing to think that people in this day and age could be so trained to think this way and have no way of being aware of what is going on around them. NK has faced a money issue for years. Famine has happened time and again due to the government taking every dime China gives them and only doing for the government itself.

NK is moving in a direction that China will not and can not support. I just believe that some point things will come to a head. It may be a coup, it may be a revolution but if NK continues on its curent path the government as is cannot stay in place.

As a true oligarchy based on a cult of personality, North Korea is not going to come to a revolution. The people are completely uninformed and believe that they are living in a socialist paradise. The fact that dissent is punished through the third generation makes it daunting to question. (For those that don't know, that means that if I commit a crime against the state, not only will I be locked up, but also my children and grandchildren will be imprisoned.)

China threw those troops into the fray after Truman rejected the idea of placing the power of nuclear weapons with MacArthur. That's part of the point I was making: in my opinion and research, U.S. indecision allowed North Korea the time and ability to secure Chinese support.

Do you think China sends 1M soldiers if MacArthur's unleashing nukes?

I am familiar with Halberstam's work. One of the great literary figures of the 20th century.

Don't forget the key salient point, during this point in time China was a much a client state of the USSR as N. Korea. We weren't sure whether the USSR had nukes, and Truman was not willing to risk a global war in Asia.

The Halberstam book does a great job clarifying all of the events. Don't forget that Truman also vetoed MacArthur's plan to invade China.

NK's people are under the thumb of a true Dictator...now, ask yourself this...who is known for removing such people without regard to what the rest of the world thinks.

Pretty much, all they have to do is give them enough rope and they will hang themselves...and they are almost at that point now. They have talked so much trash over the years they are in the spot of having to "1 up" themselves to get attention...at some point they are going to have to either back it up or shut up...and if they should try to do anything, including a strike on SK...there will be a change made in NK...and they know this...so, we have pretty much had them in a check mate for a while and thats why we dont do anything when they start this crap...NK has its hands tied...all they can do is mostly failed missile launches and mostly failed nuke testing...and not much else.

The true wild card in the equation is Japan...they HATE the NK with a passion and I honestly don't think the USA can keep them in check should they actually get pissed off at NK...that is where all hell will break loose if it's going to happen in my opinion. After WW2 Japan was pretty much taken apart as far as military goes, but the good old USA has slowly built their capabilities back up, mostly to deal with the NK threat should it arise.

Lots of irony in that...but it's all true.

The US took Japan apart and rebuilt it to benefit the US, the Japanese people came out of the deal pretty good too.

interesting how in the course of about 25 years we were attacked by Japan, then we nuked Japan not once, but twice...and then became friends somehow? Crazy world.

It isn't that hard to believe if you take into account that VERY few North Koreans have a sense of reality due to 65 years of total government control of the media there. The only news or TV that those folks have ever seen has been either dictated by the regime or skewed by the regime in order to build nationalism. Those people over there freeze and starve, but still do as they are told because all that is "real" to them is the propaganda that is fed to them. In those circumstances, it's possible to control an entire population.

It really is. At one time the US hated Japan more than Germany and then quickly became very close to them. Its had to imaging becoming close with a country that nuked you but thats exactly what happened.

I think the crap is about to hit the fan in North Korea

I think Kim Jong Un is trying his very best to just provoke the US or SK to conduct some kind of pre-emptive strike so they can go all out and maybe get China on their side. It's starting to look like a big game of chicken.
