Lol. Well I like the enthusiasm but every team is 0-0 right now and thinks they will win state. Grundy fans hope that your right but every fan hopes their team will win it all. Thats why we play the games. Anything can happen. I dont know about everyone else but since the season was over I have been insanely looking forward to it again. Hurry up August and lets get some SWD football on! Good luck to every team in the SWD. Players have a great and an injury free season.

OK, first off, Grundy must make the playoffs (very likely) and win the Region (good chance) first. Then they will have to contend with the Region III Champion...likely to be the Vic Hall Flying Circus from Gretna (oh yeh, he was only a junior last season and they return LOTS from last year's 14-0 State Championship team that demolished just about everyone in their path). I really think Grundy winning State is a pipe dream...but having said that, I also believe they will be one of the best teams in Southwest Virginia.

Second, anybody who knows anything about football in Southwest Virginia knows Aaron Marcum is a heck of a football player. And with his added weight/strength and increased speed, he will be that much better. HOWEVER, I beg to differ that he is the "top college prospect in Va". Virginia is LOADED with talent in next year's senior class...lots of guys being recruited by the NATIONAL POWERS of college football.

Check out this list of Virginia's Top 250 recruits for next season. This comes from a fairly good recruiting source (however, as with any recruiting source, it is all judgemental based on that person's opinion). He has Aaron listed in his top 250 but nowhere near the top...its still good to see "local" guys get some publicity though.

"The talent in Virginia is incredibly deep with several players being recruited nationally. This should be a very fun recruiting year to watch.

Here is my second “official” list for the season. Known D-1 offers are listed where applicable. Heights, weights, and 40 speeds from a NIKE combine are notated with a star (*); otherwise the measurements are my estimates. Previous rankings are in parenthesis.

I also found this regarding rising juniors from the same source as well...

"I was updating the rising juniors in the state and put together a very early list of prospects for the 2005-2006 class. Looks like another strong year in Virginia with an abundance of RBs, WRs, and LBs. QBs don't look very strong right now, but many QBs don't develop until their junior year. These rankings obviously don't have a lot of

basis this early and will surely change dramatically, but here are my top 50 juniors based on some very early information:

The Marcum boys are going to run wild. Aaron is the top college prospect in Va and Garron is the fastest Player. Get ready Va bacause Grundy is.

[/ QUOTE ]

First off, I'm a Grundy fan and you are an idiot for making that kinda post...get outta here...I deleted your crap yesterday once.

Aaron is good, but far from the top prospect and Garon is fast but he's far from the fastest...Aaron is doing what he can to even get noticed...crap like this doesn't help.

Second the 5.40 40 time listed is wrong...that was from the UVA Nike camp as was supposed to be scratched...Aaron didn't even plan on testing at that camp, didn't have the equipment with him, and ran that on wet tall grass in regular shoes. Since then he has run a 5.00 at the Ga Tech camp and a 5.00 at the Cincinnati MSL camp - which should come out to a sub 5 second Nike time since there is a difference in the way the two are timed...MSL uses NFL rules and guidelines, Nike doesn't...the coach told us it would make up to a .2 second difference in times which is what most of the kids that went to Nike camp stated at that Cincy camp after running. Aarons height at the Ga Tech Nike camp and the Cincy camp was 5'11.5" not 5'10.5" which is what the UVA people had...they put so much on these stats they should at least take the time to get them correct...pisses me off they just throw whatever down and move on to the next kid.

As far as Garon, he has serious things to deal with as far as his speed goes, he tested at about 4.8 in the 40 which was a joke since the kid he beat by two steps got a 4.6? He has natural speed and has finally started working out some more so I hope he can improve his 40 time to the 4.5 area or lower by next year...but that's going to take work...he looked just as good as anyone else in the drills at the UVA Nike camp, but not faster or better than the top backs...when you see the top kids together it is pretty weird see a level field as far as speed goes. He's good, but Grundy has to give him the ball and not just up the middle either...you have to get him out in the open where he can make people miss and use his speed. Grundy has not figured out how to use him properly yet I don't think.

I think Grundy has thier best chance at winning state than they have had in years, but it's a long road and they have to get out of the SWD first and hope everyone stays healthy. I'd love to see another Graham v. Grundy regional matchup which will probably be the case...but then you will have to deal with Gretna and Grundy had better have some DB's that are ready to play ball at that point.

Still making idiot posts like this doesn't help anything...so have a little class and knock it off.

Well let me write since I am the person in this world that knows Aaron Marcum better than anyone and Grundy football. First off that list is from a Charlottesville NIke Camp which the results were supposed to be scratched. Ask your "source" if he has the Atlanta Nike Camp results that have Aaron Marcum as 5'11, ran a 5.0 flat, 230 lbs, 4.9 shuttle, 14 reps, vertical 25 inches. Then he goes last weekend, three weeks later to the mls camp, 5'11 229 lbs ran a 5.0 40 by their standards but he was told it should be up to .2 tenths faster do to different running style, nfl style, 8 foot standing long jump, 25.9 inch vertical, 17 reps on vertical and 4.51 shuttle. Those results are so much better than your numbers. I think its a shame that he was allowed to scratch the results from the Charlottesville camp which he just went to give it a shot and now everyone has those numbers. Not fair to him.

Heck of a player yadda yadd. The player everyone saw last year is gone and done. Since you beat us in regions he hasn't quit in the gym or running and I see him. I know. I dont care who your source is.

As far as grundy a pipe dream. Yeah same could be said for graham losing the best back in AA. Sounds like 90% loss of offensive output and All state defensive back would mean something to you too.

Someone told me that you were cool and stuff but to get on here and point out some crappy numbers at a camp making my brother look awful is totally uncalled for.You say you wanna see a kid from SWD do good well how you doing that by pointing out a bad performance. How about posting that vic hall didnt look so well at that camp with his release and stance and that Hubbard was out of shape and stuff. I read all of that on Rivals. Oh and Aaron had a bad day that day? Guess what he still beat hubbard on bench reps, shuttle, and i believe tied on 40 time. They all have bad days. You included

Come August Grundy will be a good team. They all cant be as good as your Graham G Men but hey we will give it a shot.

Well just my opinion on the whole thing is that Aaron Marcum is as good if not better than most of the other linebackers in VA but it's just hard to get noticed from where Grundy is located. If he has having trouble getting his name out there, they is probably a big reason for it! And about this person getting on here and posting, I personally don't think it's that big of a deal. He obviously is just a Grundy fan and they do have an excellent chance to make it to state this year. Aaron may not be the very best in the state and/or Garron the fastest but their both Pretty damn good football players.

I agree with that but its still an idiot post...probably a Graham fan...lol.

I don't think Aaron should be punished just because he plays for Grundy...it's easy to say they don't play the same type of teams the AAA teams play, but it's not his fault that's where he lives and has to play...you see at the camps he's one of the best in the state...on the same level as Gresham and Simmons easliy...should be getting the same kinda looks those kids are getting.

Also - Jimmy I think you need to re-read what Gman said...he was in no way "attacking" your brother? The only thing he said was that he's not the "TOP" prospect in VA as the moron who made this thread said...which is true...he's not the "TOP" prospect in VA?

As for the "pipe dream" thing...eh...what do you expect from a *cough* "graham fan"...lmao.

Chill out man...it's all good and you were right on with about 90% of what you said.

If Aaron Marcum wants to play D-1 football he is goina have to get faster. A 5.0 forty isnt goina cut it. He is an excellent player from what I saw last season but I dont know if he has the ability to play D-1

He's working on it...he's run 4.7's before...i think he's in that range again now...the Cincy MSL combine he would probably have clocked a 4.8 at Nike now.

What you have to realize is that no one has worked with him on his 40 time...until the UVA Nike camp he had no idea of technique or instrustion on what he was doing wrong whatsoever...after that in 7 weeks he's shaved off about .6 so thats a great start...he'll be testing again later this summer at official camps...should end up at 4.6 - 4.7 range...he is doing what he has to do to play at the D1 level and he will play there...and be sure you go see him destroy VA High (again) this year.

Here's a couple of clips just for you also:

Well all of that stuff is true Lance but how can you say a post was so bad when it's gotten all of these replies...lol And to Mr. VA High, if I know Aaron like I think I do he is probably working his butt off just like Lance said. Yeah, and the MSL camp where he clocked a 5.0 on a slow field (University of Cincinnati) also went by Nfl combine rules. Ask Mr. Kevin Jones if there isn't a .2 difference...lol And if Aaron did run a 5.0 he runs a 4.5 when he plays VA High! That kid always has played good against them all the way back to when he was a freshman. GO KY IN 2005.catmandoo

Jimmy...

I'm not downing your brother in any way. I do think that he was a heck of a player last season and with the added weight/strength will be a beast this season.

The numbers I listed were in the information I found. I have nothing to do with whether or not the 5.4 forty time was to be scratched or not. If he ran 5.0 at both Atl. and Cin., then that is great...but the info I saw did not reflect that. I hope he improves on the 5.0 then maybe he will really start to get some attention.

BTW, my info didn't come from Rivals, it came from another "independent" source. It didn't give any other info about releses, stances, or being out of shape, it only gave numbers.

As for "pipe dreams"...you are nuts if you think ANYBODY in Division 3 will be able to beat Gretna this season. That is not a knock against Grundy, Graham, or any other team...that's the truth.

Call me crazy but I do think Grundy can win it all. Gretna was State champions last year. This is a new year. How do you know that a new player wont emerge to lead their team to win it all? How do you know that Gretna is as good this year when they lost players? How do you know that Vic Hall and teammates will stay healthy all season? You dont. Thats why we play the games. IF your opinion is that they will win it all, and nobody can stop them why dont you stay at home all season. Afterall, whats the point rooting for Graham if they will lose to Gretna if they meet. Graham can beat them. If a team plays Gretna right they can beat them. I didnt say it was easy but its possible. I like to think that they are a team and they can be beat. You dont sound like a very true fan to me. I go into every game thinking Grundy will find a way to win. True fans do that.

How many upsets have happened in sports over the years. I can personally think of times when Gate City went undefeated into the playoffs and lost first round. It happens. Everyone can lose. Everyone can win.

SWD teams, dont think Gretna can't be beat. They can. Everyone can. The number one player in the country this year the kid from maryland lost the state title last year and he is better than vic hall. A team beat a team. The best player in the country didnt beat a team. So why cant grundy or another team beat Vic Hall and company? They can.

SWD teams dont let anyone say you cant win. Believe in yourself and play your heart out every play and you will have a great successful season.

1)I would like to know why his family members get on here, hype him up, talk about how good he is, and make excuses when he doesnt perform. There is no need for all of that.

2)What is so immpresive about all of his testing results?

These are terrible LB numbers (For a Division 1). His strength numbers are receiver numbers and his speed times are lineman times.

14 reps at 185 is terrible

5.0 40 is def terrible

25 in vert is not good

4.9 shuttle is def terrible

3)He Better work harder because that wont get it done and TALK IS CHEAP.....

I think they only lose two linemen and one receiver (the one that caught everything thrown near him against Graham) on offense. On D, they only four players (2 DLs, 1 LB, and 1 DB...one of the DLs, the LB, and the DB are the same three guys they lose off the O).

They will return Hall, Rico Reynolds (RB), Horace Hubbard (FB/TE/LB), the big-ass OT/DL Baines...those are the ones I remember by name that made a BIG impact last season. But anyway, they will return at least 7 or 8 starters on both sides of the ball plus lots of younger kids that played quite a bit in mop-up duty.

Gretna will be for real again next season. I wouldn't be suprised to see them go 14-0 and back to back.

Gretna is bad ass...I can't wait to see (hopefully) Grundy or Graham hook up with them at some point this year...Gresham seems like a good kid, I was impressed with him at the UVA camp. I wouldn't mind seeing Richlands play them either....or Gate City...but that will never happen...still would be fun to watch.

Well son, LB31, you must have not read that his 40 time is down near the 4.8-4.9 range now, 17 reps of 185, 8ft. broad jump, 4.5 shuttle, 29 inch verticle(UVA Nike Camp), and I am not his family. And to say that Aaron Marcum needs to work harder just goes to show you don't know him. He's not the greatest athlete but he is in the same leauge as these other guys because of his effort. But his numbers aren't that bad anyway. Match them up to other top linebackers in the state and you can see that they are equal if not better.

I have to agree with LB31. I just don't think he will get any D-1 offers with his numbers. I think he would need to get his 40 time down to at least 4.8 and his bench press up to 300 lbs to get a serious look at LB. His height does'nt help his cause much either.

Don't get me wrong, I think he's a heck of a player who's college education will be paid for, but a D-1 scholarship offer is a bit unrealistic IMO.

BigD4VT, He ran a 5.0 at that msl camp that went by nfl combine rules and was on that slow cincinatti grass so I say his time is around 4.8. That's what I read the coaches even told the boys. But sometime this summer, if he attends any camps which I would say he probably is, he needs to clock atleast a 4.8. Also, the other day I was talking to one of the Grundy coaches and they told me that they saw him max out at 280 in the weight room about 2 weeks ago. Finally 6'0 tall isn't that bad for a middle-linebacker. It's not the greatest height but he can work with that by using his head on the field. I think Aaron will be fine but he needs to just keep working and I wish him the best. Fine young player who I would like to see go somewhere and I believe he can and will. Go Cats, Catmandoo

I hope they both end up playing in college somewhere. I wish the same for all SWVA kids.

The numbers you give are a lot better but I still don't see him getting a D-1 offer. I saw another post that says he's among the top 250 players in VA. I didn't read the list so I don't know how high he was, and I don't know who wrote the list, but I do know that the major D-1 programs usually go after about the top 30 or so in VA with mid-majors picking up the best of the rest. Look at the hype Bradshaw got, or Hamilton, the Jones's ect. Those guy's were top 30 in VA and they had D-1 schools all over them as Jr's. You can be a great HS football player and not get a major offer but there is nothing wrong with 1-AA or D-2, or even D-3. You still get an education, you get to play football, and if you have NFL aspirations and you work hard enough, and get good enough, the scouts will find you.

I think he ends up playing 1-AA and there is nothing wrong with that.

He already has D1-A and D1-AA schools with offers pending camp workouts...they've seen the DVD/Tape and they want to see him in person...he'll make it to D1-A somewhere....all trash talk and bullshit aside...he will sign on letter day next feb.

All this talk is fun, but just remember not to get overly excited about stuff and keep it fun for everyone...
