Just a thought, but may be a little far fetched. If TW is shut down, I wouldn't be surprised if LMU started a university school similar to ETSU and some other universities have. I don't know the logistics of that, but just a thought.
-
I really thought Abingdon would win it. Also thought Battle would bring home a crown too.
-
In softball, Central beat Chatham 11-1 in 5 innings, Appomattox defeated Lee 7-3, Turner Ashby defeated Abingdon 4-3, and Auburn over Burton 8-0.

State Baseball (Final 8) Eastern Scores
Weatherman replied to Fairlawncat's topic in SWVA Baseball & Softball
I know weather is always a concern, but come on VHSL, allowing these teams to play one day earlier than some of the others is potentially a huge advantage in pitching. -
Yes, needs to be a level playing field for all.
-
Mountain 7 District softball produces 2 Region D Champions and 1 Region D Runnerup that had beaten both teams: Abingdon, Central, and Lee.

What's up the road for our teams? Who makes a run at a state title? John Battle baseball appears to be in position to make a run, but anything can happen in single elimination. Lebanon is finding ways to win, and is experienced at the state level, can they keep it going? What about softball? Stud pitchers seem to rule at the state level. Eastside has two D-1 pitchers, is this their year? Burton has a good pitcher too, but are inexperienced at the state level. Can either Central or Lee make a run? How good is Eastside baseball?
-
For the players actions? Or the fan incident? I'd think charges would be a bit harsh for the player incident.
-
Any consequences for this?

The Mountain 7 District is brutal in most sports, and softball was no exception. Teams spend their seasons beating up on each other, and you think one team is not very good when they lose, but when it comes region tournament time the M7 usually has at least 3 of the 4 best teams. That's not to say the SWD doesn't have any good teams, they just don't have as many.
-
Regular season carries more weight than the tournament, but it is possible for one team to jump another if they get hot in the tournament.

Doubtful, he left there because the kids wouldn't work at basketball.
-
Exactly. If the Executive committee approve these new rules, it will basically stop about all in-state transfers. It is very restrictive.

I'm assuming Ty White will still be with Team Loaded. otherwise he wouldn't leave to go to another public school that has to use home-grown players.

Building principals can turn a student away if they don't live in their attendance zone.

That was my first thought when watching that unfold, "Where are the coaches?"
-
He didn't just drop it, he threw it away towards the bench and scorers table. 100% the correct call by the official.

1. If true, so sad to see racist comments were made. 2. Embarassing situation for the school for the behavior of the parent and players. 3. It's time we have metal detectors for all high school ball games, and all bags be checked just like for any other event that people attend. These gyms are just tinder boxes for something violent to happen as emotions soar. If there was anyone there with a weapon other than law enforment, that is down right scary. 4. State Tournament games should not be held in high school gyms. Period.

Not sure how true it is, but heard the rumor that the John Marshall regime may end after this year, that the coach may be leaving for a different job.
-
#1 seed in both districts is the regular season champion. The tournament doesn't change that.
-
Mountain 7 puts more weight on the regular season. If Union had won the tournament or if Gate City had lost the consolation, then Union would have been the 2 seed. Neither of those happened.
-
I think you are correct on both girls and boys teams that are in. Seeding still to be determined, other than the #1 seeds.
