No one added further intent to anything. In the first quarter (?!?) of a “very chippy game” GC’s star player threw an intentional elbow...not an accidental one...that resulted in a kid going to the hospital with a concussion.   The perpetrator was not ejected, not suspended by his coach, and there were no consequences. These are indisputable facts.

I suppose under your premise it would be “understandable” (but still wrong) if a kid from Wise put Dean in the hospital tomorrow as retribution.  After all, these are very chippy games we are talking about here.
And before you misunderstand-these are kids we are talking about so I  wouldn’t want any injuries to occur ever. I’m just pointing out how fantastically ignorant it is to say that it is “understandable” when a kid hurts another kid intentionally and isn’t punished in any way.

    A) If you watch that clip and don’t see intent to injure then you are completely unobjective. Of course he wasn’t trying to put him in the hospital, but he did. If you haul off and punch someone and they die...guess what...you don’t get off just because you didn’t intend to kill them.
    B) In real life, if you lose your temper and commit a crime, you still have to face the consequences of said crime. The only lesson apparently taught at GC is that if you are good at basketball, your coach and fans will not hold you accountable as long as you can help them win.

I don’t see any Central fans over here claiming moral high ground, but even if they were the “but they did it too” defense isn’t a great look.

I’m 100% positive this guy is still squeezing into the letterman jacket and heckling teenagers all the while holding popcorn between the knees, a coke under one armpit and both hands full of hotdogs with a cowbell around the neck😄

Not from either school so here is my take on the issue.  I watched both Vermillion and McCamis play in high school and college.  They are older now but still act the way they did at 17/18 years old.  They are both hot tempered and throw fits when things don't go their way.  In my opinion, McCamis is worse at this than Vermillion.  That being said, I honestly don't know if there is any truth to the allegations for either telling their player to take someone out or elbow someone intentionally.
I am old school so I do understand statements like "if you are gonna foul, make it count" or "if you foul on a break, make sure they don't get the shot off".  Most coaches will use those phrases because you hate to see a cheap foul from behind and the player still hits the shot.  SWVA games over the last few years have gotten very physical.  I think this comes from teams trying to mimic the bigger and more athletic schools on the eastern side of the state.  There seems to be more man 2 man defense and the offense is being pushed to play faster and faster.  When the game was slower, teams played more zone and the offense was more of a half court style.
While I can't deny that the coaches and schools have some responsibility in this matter, I think there is also another huge factor at play, the officials.  Current officiating is the worst I have witnessed and I have been around basketball since the late 1980's.  With the move of girls basketball to the winter along with implementing a third official for varsity games, the officiating pool is terribly watered down.  Now, when everyone is having a quad on a Tuesday, you need 5 refs (2 JV/3 Varsity) at each site.  Officials main goal now is to get through the night as quick as possible, take their check, and laugh at the bitching fans as they sprint off the floor.  Officials do not want to call a lot of fouls so they let hand checks and bumps go.  Next, you don't call over the back and illegal screens.  Then, players begin to get chippy and start shoving and throwing elbows.  That's when the fans and coaches start raising hell and people start making accusations on here.
Kids have shoved players in the back on a fast break for as long as I have been watching, it's not new because someone did it to McClung.  Kid's have been throwing elbows for as long as the other players have been hacking or reaching around from behind, not just Dean.  Players will talk trash, they will taunt, and they will make mistakes.  These players are still kids and they react to situations with emotion.  I am not a big fan of either of these fan bases because I am also a part of another fan base, but I understand why they get so fired up about their players.
If you really want to fix these issues then start with the officials.  They believe that you can't call everything or you will be there all night.  What they aren't willing to do is test that theory.  Maybe if you call the hand checks and bumps on defense early the kids back off a little and play with their feet and not their bodies.  Maybe if you call every over the back and moving screen, the kids will learn better fundamentals.  Maybe if you started giving technicals quick for any chatter from a team's 8-9 assistant coaches they will either sit in the stands or shut up.
    Just my thoughts.

A half lol.  Probably will take 20 shots the second half to not hurt his average...that will surely teach him a lesson.
Not sure how any GC fan can watch this and still claim moral high ground on McAmis. Two sides of the same coin.

Extremely inappropriate to talk about a high school kid in such a manner, especially hiding behind a keyboard anonymously.

I wouldn't say MM is more confident than most alpha dogs, but having seen him from the other sideline for a couple of years now I would say he is trending in the wrong direction attitude wise.  I've seen him do more than his fair share of cherry picking this year, I've watched him be very demonstrative to other players and officials alike (which I didn't see in previous years), and in the conference tournament watched him attempt some hot sauce level ballhandling and dribble it off his foot out of bounds right in front of his coach...I can't believe SV didn't bench him immediately for that on general principle.

In fairness to the kid, (as he is still just a kid), I would say a lot of it is boredom, as teams like Lee and Lebanon don't really stoke the competitive fire in a player that talented.  Obviously he has played his best against the best competition which is what you want to see in terms of a sign of future success.  We were all a little more fiery when we were younger, so it's not an indictment of character to say he has a little attitude, but GC fans also shouldn't be offended at people saying that. We all know that if a player in a different uniform was doing the same stuff that they would not be so glowing in their praise.

Richlands dominated the game-Honaker shot better than I've ever seen them and still lost. Honaker kids are tough minded and refused to quit...can't help but be impressed with their pride, but Richlands 20 points better talent wise.

When you start basing things in high school athletics on "Who has the better shot" then you are missing the whole point of high school athletics.
