  1. Shifting the goal posts you are UVA.  Richlandsalum, I am not saying a darn thing.  I never have.  The research is saying it.  I am summating the research after working in this field for 20 plus years and UVA is now shifting the goals posts.  He's now making the argument that masks aren't 100 percent foolproof.  I am equally not making the argument that masks never work or prevent infection 100% of the time.  I have never made that statement.  What I have stated, and correctly so, with the research, with working in the field for 20 plus year is that Facemasks Alone do NOT adequately prevent the spread/infection of NOT JUST Coronavirus, ANY Virus that ever existed on earth and keywords here to the end of my statement, WITH STATISTICAL SIGNIFICANCE.  So, when I right the words "they don't adequately prevent"......this could very well mean they work 3% of the time, but we know this, when we have a true scientific study that compares two groups.....

A control group who wears masks and a group that does not wear mask, we can say that with statistical probably, (greater than 95% of the time with confidence) there is NO difference.  These are not my words.  The research is clear, and not just clear, it is overwhelming clear that they don't work. It says this.  I have summated the research and I summated one other research FACT that we know and that is......Social Distancing of 6 feet or more DOES work. It's proven statistically, with significance.  We have known that with virus's for decades.  Based on the literature, I have stated in my opinion, we should not have a national/federal mandate requiring masks.  I have stated we should have a federal mandate (not popular, but liberals don't care about this point so they don't argue), but that we SHOULD have a national mandate on social distancing because the research is clear it works.

My statements have been without political persuasion and strictly by the science.  The problem is exactly what you see across the nation right now and that is, the far left attempting to bully and scare those who do not align with their talking points REGARDLESS of what the data says.  Do you really feel Sixcat, BigW and UVA really care about what the data says?  They don't.  They care about what the left tells them to think and if the left came out tomorrow and stated, EVERYONE stop wearing facemasks and social distancing, then CNN and MSNBC, their adjunct adequately pitched in, then you can bet these three would take that position in a heartbeat.  They are far, far leftists who are towing the talking points line of the left and in doing so, attempt to bully.  It doesn't work with me.  In an attempt to disagree, just like the left always does, they attempt to bully, to make it personal, to attack the other person with a different viewpoint with some other fraudulent claim such as "intellectual dishonesty."

I've also NEVER said to not wear a mask.  Not one time on this board have I ever said that.  I wear one all the time out of respect for people around me who may believe they work and that's their security.  I do not go in public without one, but it is exactly that for them, it's a false sense of security because they do NOT work.  The six feet of distance in the parking lot is far, far, far, far more valuable to decrease one's odds than being within 2 feet and wearing a mask.

  2. False accusations my friend.  Again, UVA, you are wrong on this and you don't know what you are talking about, and you are now trying to make it personal.  Don't make it personal.  Be better than that.  Simplistic measures, as you say such as wearing masks absolutely DO NOT minimize the spread of the virus.  That is 100% wrong.  Period.  It's not factually wrong, it's insanely-crazy wrong.  I'm telling you dude, you are wrong on this.  Read the articles and guarantee me the following.  You are not an ideologue and if you are swayed by the evidence, you will admit it?  I'm telling you, with all due respect and I mean that.  You are wrong on this issue and the science.  The data overwhelmingly supports the fact that masks do not protect in a statistically significant way compared to a control group to prevent the Coronavirus, and as I told you, ANY Airborne Virus in the history of mankind.  Not just C-19. Literally, ANY Airborne Virus.  As far as being swayed, the overwhelming proportion of the medical and scientific community agree that masks don't work.  I don't know what world you live in.  It's literally as if you live on Mars or something, and scientifically baseless fraudulent claims as you accuse?  The data is there.  The only fraud in the mix is someone who has no clue of how to read a research paper, much less write one, have no clue of actually what the data says, then make a claim that masks work because he hears it on MSNBC.  That's fraud.

  3. You are a "cowboy."  You da man.  I sense you are a bit angry and trying to make this personal because you feel the argument is lost.  By the way, it is.

Let me repeat to you.  Masks don't work.  Stop listening to Portland and listen to common sense.  And no, I do not lie about Covid twice.  So help me by God, I am one of the unfortunates ones who literally had C-19 twice, but again, the very fact that you don't believe this probably shows some level first of narcissism, not a caring attitude.  That's par for the course with you.  I love Cowboys.  I guess I'm the Indian.  I will not stroke your ego.  Your might be a classic narcissist who thinks that anything they say is without flaw or critique or question.  In short, you like to throw shi* at the wall and hope it sticks.  It sounds like you might also need serious help.  Really, something sounds deeply wrong with you by reading much of your posts, but I can't be sure.  I'm telling you what I told you earlier.  You do not know what you are talking about regarding the efficacious ability of masks versus viruses.  You literally do not know what you don't know.

  4. Facemasks.  Lets put this to bed.  They don't work.  Anyone wishing to argue they do can always look to this post instead of tying up the chat room.

    1.  CDC, "not a right wing organization" admits the absolutely overhwelming majority of people who are getting COVID wore masks.
    https://thefederalist.com/2020/10/12/cdc-study-finds-overwhelming-majority-of-people-getting-coronavirus-wore-masks/

    2.  The CDC's statement on C-19 and masks in February.  Again, why make this statement?  It's based on years and years, decades
of research that we have with other viruses like the common cold (two times larger than C-19) and so many other airborne
viruses.  Their statement was....These expert opinions were based on a meta-analysis of multiple studies about masks on the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC’s) website. It concluded, “We did not find evidence that surgical-type
face masks are effective in reducing laboratory-confirmed influenza transmission, either when worn by infected persons (source control)
or by persons in the general community to reduce their susceptibility

    3.  In March, he U.S. surgeon general and the Centers for Disease Control both previously said that
“masks are NOT effective in preventing [the] general public from catching coronavirus"

    4.  Guess What, in February of this year, Anthony Fauci stated the same thing.  Why did he do this?  Because of the overwhelming data on influenza which is on average,
the same size to slightly LARGER than Covid.  Why the change with Fauci all of a sudden?  Politics.  Folks, we have decades of research on masks and influenza which is larger than C-19 and masks still do not stop the flu, so they aren't stopping C-19 which is slightly smaller.

    5.  The Oxford 6.  Arguably, the top academic institution in the world did a meta analysis on 6 studies.  Meta Analysis is the absolute best in research evidence.
There are several different types of "weights" in medical research to include expert opinion, qualitative research, quantitative research, a single one time
report, etc.  Meta Analysis is an analysis of multiple studies.  In short, it's a research study on a bunch of research studies.  This is high powered stuff.  This study was so powerful and well done that you basically need not read any further than this.  It shuts the door on any misperception that masks work.  Oxford is one of the best, arguable the best academic institution in the world.
    https://www.cebm.net/covid-19/masking-lack-of-evidence-with-politics/

    6.  Penetration of particles is 97% in cloth mask wearers compared to 44% with N95 wearers.  By the way, 44% is not good.  That's dangerous.  44% isn't stopping the virus from transmitting.
    https://bmjopen.bmj.com/content/5/4/e006577.long

    7.  Face Masks to protect against the Common Cold, which is a virus, (commonly the Rhinovirus that is 2 to 2.5 times on average, larger than Covid-19) and being that large,
surely a face mask would do the job and protect against it.  Well, they don't.
    https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19216002/

    8.  Again, best available evidence possible.  The most absolute strongest, strictest, true scientific research that is possible is a meta analysis.
Effectiveness of Surgical Face Masks in Reducing Acute Respiratory Infections in Non-Healthcare Settings: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
    Masks are not effective.
    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7546829/

    9.  Review of the Medical Literature
Here are key anchor points to the extensive scientific literature that establishes that wearing surgical masks and respirators (e.g., “N95”) does not reduce the risk of contracting a verified illness

    A. Jacobs, J. L. et al. (2009) “Use of surgical face masks to reduce the incidence of the common cold among health care workers in Japan: A randomized controlled trial,” American Journal of Infection Control, Volume 37, Issue 5, 417 – 419. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19216002

    B. N95-masked health-care workers (HCW) were significantly more likely to experience headaches. Face mask use in HCW was not demonstrated to provide benefit in terms of cold symptoms or getting colds.

Cowling, B. et al. (2010) “Face masks to prevent transmission of influenza virus: A systematic review,” Epidemiology and Infection, 138(4), 449-456. https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/epidemiology-and-infection/article/face-masks-to-prevent-transmission-of-influenza-virus-a-systematic- review/64D368496EBDE0AFCC6639CCC9D8BC05

    C. None of the studies reviewed showed a benefit from wearing a mask, in either HCW or community members in households (H). See summary Tables 1 and 2 therein.

bin-Reza et al. (2012) “The use of masks and respirators to prevent transmission of influenza: a systematic review of the scientific evidence,” Influenza and Other Respiratory Viruses 6(4), 257–267. https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10.1111/j.1750-2659.2011.00307.x

“There were 17 eligible studies. … None of the studies established a conclusive relationship between mask/respirator use and protection against influenza infection.”

    D. Smith, J.D. et al. (2016) “Effectiveness of N95 respirators versus surgical masks in protecting health care workers from acute respiratory infection: a systematic review and meta-analysis,” CMAJ Mar 2016 https://www.cmaj.ca/content/188/8/567

    E. “We identified six clinical studies … . In the meta-analysis of the clinical studies, we found no significant difference between N95 respirators and surgical masks in associated risk of (a) laboratory-confirmed respiratory infection, (b) influenza-like illness, or (c) reported work-place absenteeism.”

Offeddu, V. et al. (2017) “Effectiveness of Masks and Respirators Against Respiratory Infections in Healthcare Workers: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis,” Clinical Infectious Diseases, Volume 65, Issue 11, 1 December 2017, Pages 1934–1942, https://academic.oup.com/cid/article/65/11/1934/4068747

In conclusion folks, I will write this again.  There is no conclusive scientific data EVER, EVER, not one true scientific study with reliable and valid research methods which
is truly a controlled study, a study with control groups. a study that is double or triple blinded, and one that is externally peer reviewed that scientifically proves that
masks work that has a true statistically reliable effect sized and is adequately powered.  ANY study you find stating so will not meet full scientific validity such as randomization, etc.  Now, you will certainly find some that suggests masks works
WHEN THEY ADD MORE VARIABLES such as handwashing, social distancing, etc.  They add these variable to adjust for statistical significance, but if you single out
masks only and do not add other variables such as social distancing and handwashing, the evidence is overwhelmingly clear.  It's overwhelming clear and even agreed by
the scientific community that masks alone do not work.

When I said those 3 teams, I meant Graham, Tazewell and Richlands.  I should have said 4 including Ridgeview.

Brody Meadows a rising junior is a 4 Star recruit according to 247 sports and ranked #30 in the Nation at OT.  He has multiple D1 offers most notably Arizona State, Purdue, Tennessee.

Xay Bradshaw is a 3 star recruit, rising Junior at the athlete position and is about to explode on the recruiting scene already getting offers from Purdue, Kansas, Arizona State and others.

Chance Harris just committed to Moorehead State after playing in only 3 games last season before a devastating knee  injury.  His talent was obvious in the short time watching him play.  I'm sure his stock would have gone up.

Others mentioned like Josiah Jordan and Sage Webb are among the top players in the area too.

Most importantly all of these kids mentioned are good kids both on and off of the field as Im sure Atkins is too.

Josh Herndon (THS Lineman)is one the top players in the area too.

Guarantee you that Sage has at least 1 P5 offer by August. He can play slot imo at a major FBS level. Kids a freak athletic talent.

I think that reasonable minds can differ, so I don’t think that it’s “nowhere close”.  Chancellor’s injury artificially capped the attention he was set to receive from colleges.  Nevertheless, he’s still going to an FCS school on a full ride (Morehead State).  In a situation where there’s been a devastating injury, it’s not a fair comparison to trot out “college prospects” to discuss ability.

I’d love to see some film that shows Adkins’s sense of field vision.  In what I’ve seen, that’s literally the worst part of his game.  He’s got Division I measurables that set him apart, but I’ve not him use them in any other way than simply being able to be more genetically gifted than his opposition.  That usually doesn’t translate well to the collegiate level.  I’ve thought all along that he translates better to being on the defensive side of the ball in terms of collegiate prospects.

Reasonable minds can differ and I define "nowhere close" as the following.  One guy has major P5 offers and the other doesn't have any.  To me, when we talk about levels of play in football, national TV, NFL looks, "nowhere close" applies here when considering a P5 school vs Emory and Henry.  Now, I know Adkins has committed to Toledo, but he could have been a Vol or Hokie, but chose Toledo.

I think Josiah Jordan is more well rounded in terms of defense/offense.  I think Cassius Harris, Mike Jones, and Sage Webb are faster.  I think Chancellor Harris is a better pure running back in terms of power/agility.  Having seen the Ridgeview/Tazewell scrimmage last season...yes, Ridgeview has Adkins.  He’s certainly got the D1 measurables.  But there’s a reason that scrimmage was even...

Chancellor Harris is nowhere close to the level of Adkins as a RB.  From balance to vision to strength, and again, vision and natural instinct to find the hole, Adkins is on a completely different level.  If he were on the same level, Harris would have had P5 offers just like Adkins, yet he doesn't; therefore, the recruiters feel Adkins is far and away a better RB.  That's not to say Harris isn't a stud because he is, but he's not an Adkins.  There's a difference.  I agree on Jordan.  He imo is equally as valuable as a High School Player as Adkins because of his prowess on both sides of the football.

  8. The GMen have to be tough to pick against, if you consider they have 2 major D1/FBS power 5 kids. At the 2A level with small enrollments and numbers, the odds are this team will be very tough to beat.

Having just one D1/FBS kid makes a big difference (Ridgeview). Having 2 can make a monumental difference.

Don't know much about the others, but I look for Graham to be better than expected in D.  I think it will come down to them, Tazewell and Wise Central.  I look for Xay Bradshaw to have a tremendous year.  He should be something to see this year.  Tazewell will have several talented athletes at their disposal, but they have been bitten hard by the injury bug the past couple of years.  If they stay healthy, they could pull it out in D as well.  Central is well - rounded, hard nosed and talented.  Should be an interesting year, can't wait to see how it plays out.  Appo in C should be good again, they lost a few key pieces, but return the QB and that one receiver who I would compare to Bradshaw at the receiver position.  For Graham, Bradshaw will need to get more touches out of hte backfield and get the ball in his hands as much as possible.  With a big offensive line in front of him this season, he will be hard to stop.  Graham added a solid O-lineman from Mt. View who transferred over last year after the season and volunteer coach Yubrenal Isabelle is an outstanding asset to the staff.

If Doug Smith is unable to coach at Appo, I think it's a monumental loss for them.  Appo's talent is incredible and I'm certain Smith's leadership has had the assistants more than prepared enough to take over (if Doug Smith is unable to coach), but it is still a huge loss in the area of x's and o's.  He sees stuff his fellow coaching peers don't see.  Tazewell is going to be really really good this year, and it wouldn't surprise me if the Dogs came out of the Region over Central, Graham, Richlands, Union, and Ridgeview.  In the East, Stuarts Draft will be a problem for anyone with what they supposedly return.

  10. BoBo, do you know how the playoffs work in Virginia this year?  I haven't heard or read how they will work.  Are there playoffs this spring?  If so, do the same amount of teams make it that made it last year and every year or are the playoffs shortened, etc?

  11. 3rd Moral imo is....Don't hire a coach who is a dumba** and if you do, get rid of him quickly.  There really just isn't any way to spin it.  The coach is either very dumb compared to the majority of his High School Coaching Peers, or he simply through the game.  I think it's choice one.   A guy who just isn't very sharp or the moment was so big for him he couldn't put a thought together.

  12. Don't know if it will hold, but through 4 games, McClung leads Texas Tech in scoring at 20 points per game.  He is shooting 53.3 percent from the field, and his 3 point percentage is 40%.  At Georgetown, they would not give the kid the ball.  When he got the ball, he had to completely create his own shot.  No ball screens, nada.  At Texas Tech, with just a little bit of coaching and lack of jealousy by his teammates, he's performing like an All American.  Again, don't know if the numbers hold up, but if they do, he's going to be on an All American team this year.

  13. Tickets are anywhere from 480 bucks to 1000 bucks for one ticket.  Average right now is 675 dollars for 1 ticket.  Now, is this insane or what?  Coastal Carolina is allowing 5,000 to be inside the stadium.   Last of all, the BYU football team is landing at 3 pm, and I got lucky.  The local stake center here in Myrtle Beach are feeding the team this evening and I get to go.  In LDS, a "ward" is a church, and a "stake" is basically a group of churches/region headquarters.  The "stake" will have a large center inside of it for meetings, dinners, etc.  Based on the short notice, local members were asked to help with the food and my wife volunteered as she loves to cook.  It's going to be a fun evening and weekend.

  14. Not going to be cancelled.  We will know today by 3 pm if Liberty can play.  If Liberty can not play, Brigham Young will be coming to Conway to play the Chants.  If this happens, it will be a matchup of 2 top 15 schools and the Gameday crew will have a solid matchup.  Liberty would also be a solid matchup, but the winner of the Coastal vs BYU game will be in the Super Six for sure.

  15. Winds for the Coastal Carolina and Liberty game forecasted at 15 mph with 25 mph gusts and up to 1 inch of rain on Saturday with torrential downpours.  I change my pick on this game in favor of Coastal.  I don't favor Liberty either.  It's a toss up with that weather.

Get goosebumps everytime I watch this. Marked the start of a great decade of football for both Bluefields. Does anyone know exactly where it was those two guys were standing in the beginning of the video? They talk about a new shopping plaza being built and was curious if they were talking about the old Walmart and now current Lowes Plaza when it was being built. I've been searching online a long time now for photos of all of that land before anything through there was ever built and it was all still farmland to have for keepsake.

They are standing on Leatherwood Farms Property, and they are to the South (Mountain Side of 460).  460 would be to their North.  Yes, they are looking down, from the bottom of the mountain/hill in the cow pasture of Leatherwood farms with East River Mountain behind them, and they are looking at the pasture lands where you now have the Physicians Offices directly straight ahead of them.  Slightly, very slightly to their left, but in view is the Lowes/Walmart/McDonalds area of today.  But, if you could draw a straight line from where they are standing, it would bisect the current Outpatient Physicians Offices.

  17. Agree with both of you guys, but like you mentioned.....lets wait and see.  I think he's likely Europe Bound, but he's only half way done in college.  Lets see what he does in these next 2 years.  He's in the right program and he's leading them in scoring.  If any kid has the work ethic to get better defensively and with his jump shot, it's McClung.  Ain't nobody gonna out work that kid in the gym.   I think he's Europe bound as well, but it wouldn't surprise me if he ended up scoring 22 a game this year at TT and gets that 3 pt percentage up to 40% by early senior year.  Wouldn't shock me at all.

This is the only Beaver-Graham game I have ever sat on the visitors side. At that time Graham sat on the visitor's side even when they were the home team. They were the home team for this game so I was not doing the P. A. Graham was a heavy favorite and their hearts were torn out when Bluefield won.

I thought for sure, for sure Graham would win that game by 3 touchdowns.  Graham at that time had a superstar junior named Brent Surface who is a buddy of mine, and one of the fastest kids to ever don a Graham uniform.  I thought Surface, former Beaver Greg Ridley, and that big jumbo line with All Stater Brian Denham (another buddy of mine) would just be to much for the Beavers.

  19. Bluefields Researcher, great stuff man. Dude, you have got to write a book with the wealth of knowledge and information you have. A book about local and forgotten stories focusing on the Beavers, but throwing in my GMen, and the history of guys like Gainer and his coaching tree, all the Big Creek stuff, even Northfork basketball, the Tazewell/Big Creek Dave Ryder/Jason Whitten connection, etc.

If you ever did this, my promise to purchase 500 copies off the top and distribute them.  Brother, you have a gift in that brain of yours filled with incredible knowledge that needs to be shared.  You probably would need 2 books to share the knowledge drop because I know you got stories upon stories.  Think about my post and ponder it BR.  You really have a gift dude and that knowledge drop would basically tie the 20th and early 21st century together to where someone 50 years from now could fill in the gap after the year 2000.
