  1. It does make sense somewhat for Richlands, why Union still uses it 35+ years since it was relevant is beyond me. It's not even the best AC/DC song FFS
  2. Great job man. I'm so sick of SWVA teams using Thunderstruck, but that's not your fault lol.
  3. No you gotta combine them! Are you a novice in the arena of stupid imaginations? You gotta have some Graham mixed with some Bluefield so it represents both areas.
  4. That strangely doesn't help me any, because now I just picture one single, gigantic beaver wearing a gigantic G-Men helmet and shoulder pads (no pants of course, he's a beaver).
  5. I am such a immature ass, I laugh every time I see Graham-Bluefield referred to as Graham-Beavers. It's funnier picturing beavers wearing G-Men uniforms, but it also leads to another, more interesting mental image of Graham alumni.
  6. that's a great list but it's missing some great games from the 90s and 2000s from Gate City/PV. 97, 2001, 2004, all were incredible games. 2001 was the last competitive PV/AHS game IIRC, it was a doozy.
  7. You know how Montgomery is about this topic, it would take a special series of events for that game to ever happen again soon. Logically it makes sense, but logistically it won't happen. E&H likes to feel superior to UVAW, and that's only possible if you never play and take a chance on losing (again). UVAW has the advantages now, being D2, having a good coaching staff and talent on the rise so I de f don't see it happening soon. Being there in 2011, it was insane. The animosity is very real. I never realized it until I was in the middle of it, and both sides did nothing to curb the hate. I'm bias to one side and I'm sure Emory folks feel differently, but it's hard to deny this game doesn't happen because of Emory s refusals. For a period, UVAW was starving for games and were having to check with places from hours and hours away for games.
  8. TBH I hate articles like that. You (rhetorical you, not you in particular man) think kids around here aren't like kids everywhere else, making dumb IG posts and playing Fortnite? This isn't 1970 any more, the kids work just as hard as ever but it's a more modern world and SWVA is no exception. Some kids still fish and hunt and are outdoors types, but not all kids are and articles like this almost work to shame kids who maybe don't enjoy those things yet work just as hard. Football teams are successful in this area because the schools view it as important, the kids work very hard starting at a young age and there are a lot of good coaches in the area. It's not because this area produces these supposed hillbilly kids who have no concept of the world outside of SWVA/NET and only live to hunt, fish and play futbaw by god, I think it's a silly narrative that unfairly has SWVA being stuck in the past in some negative ways. I understand he's making a point about the changing landscapes, but there's no such thing as ' mountain magic', it's kids that work hard and dedicate themselves. Every team in this area has had some lean years because talent waxes and wanes. Bigger schools who place more importance on football and have a great system in place like in BSG, Richlands, Clintwood, etc.. Will succeed more often than not but it's not because of anything other than the kids and the coaches. This article is far from the most offensive in that regard and I have no animus towards Allen Gregory, I'm just using this recent article to make a point about a narrative that gets parroted a lot. Maybe I'm the only person who feels this way, I know a lot of people take pride in the notion that SWVA isn't the rest of the world, it's somehow more pure, but that's naive. Kids are basically the same all over, different areas have different interests and rural communities do have differences from major urban centers but at their core, teenagers are teenagers.
  9. LOL, playing at Burton is not tough, they never receive any more home cooking than anyone else. Suggesting otherwise is laughable. EDIT-Not saying it's easy to win in Norton at all, only that claiming the refs favor them there is dumb
  10. Union/Ridgeview Bears/Blues in week two will be insane, but not sure that'll be the best Union will look. By time Union goes to Cllintwood, should be gelling and we will see who is best of the old LPD this year.
  11. 97 PV/Appy was best I can remember. 04 PV @ GC, and any of past 5-6 Union/Richlands games.
  12. Really? You two are Chelsea fans as well? That's who I root for in the EPL. I don't have any other favorites, like seeing Dortmund do well bc of Pulisic but Chelsea is the team I always support. Missing out on CL is big bummer, no reason a team this talented should not finish in top four. Conte needed to win FA Cup but not sure that save his job with how pitiful the Blues closed the season, the last game was such a horrible performance when there was a very slim chance to finish in top four.
  13. http://www.heraldcourier.com/sports/abingdon-out-of-mountain-tournaments/article_c4e42054-5c91-11e8-b74b-abdd20c2461b.html The weather and the moving up of the 3A tourney apparently were the major reasons.
  14. What's it matter anyway? AHS crushed everyone in the M7 and their regional berth is already clinched, I don't see why AHS was so upset.
  15. Are you sure? Thought it said Scotty and not Carlock. My bad Any all Region or Conference teams?
  16. Anyone have the All-Region D and M7 teams? All state teams are up. Luke Lawson was 1A POY and other big was first team All State as well. 2A, Mac was POY, Ervin, McClung and Martin were first team, Mitchell all-second team. Any All-Region or Conference teams? In girls 2A, Frazier was POY and first team for RV, Dee was first team, and Dotson was COY.
  17. Same here. Got Nova and Duke alive, hoping TAMU and Nevada are the other two in Final Four so I have a shot lol
  18. Damn guys it wasn't that bad, he didn't trash anyone or really say anything. If that was the worst part of the story, it's a total non story.
  19. It's a family thing. His brother, Mike, coaches the Rockets and has been a big proponent of the three ball, quick shots and no defense for a while.
  20. I'm the CoverII bracket, I didn't think to put my screen name.
  21. I'm a game behind ya UVAO, I had Bama but missed on tOSU and Arizona.
  22. Not really big upset IMO, I picked Loyola, as did a bunch of people. But it was a wild finish. Now if UNCG had pulled it off, that'd have been a SHOCKER lol
  23. Wow, that's super shitty if the story is true
