Galax is playing for home field all the way to Salem. Grayson will have to play a perfect game to take that away from them.

I've seen other threads dedicated to individual teams here lately, and all were well deserved. @Suit Up has a great thread with a recap of the season and outlook for the playoffs, so I wanted to take a minute to talk about VHS.
Back during the first Top 10 thread, I put VHS on my list as #10 and put a long explanation as to why. Thankfully, most of what I said then, has come true, even though I could feel some eyes being rolled at my post lol. The main gist of my post was that VHS has a talented group of Juniors, with some talented Seniors and Sophomores sprinkled in. I also said that I had no Grand Illusions of a State Title, but I did feel a win or two in the playoffs, which is considered an excellent season at VHS , is possible. That remains a possibility.
With all of that said, I know I can speak on behalf of Bristol, when I say that we couldn't be more proud of the Bearcats. They have had some good wins this year, an impressive showing in Big Stone in the benefit game, a hard fought loss against a 6-4 Tn High team, and one embarrassingly bad performance in Bluefield.
Regardless of how the following weeks pan out, the Bearcats should hold their heads high and know that they've accomplished something that very, very few teams since the 80's have done. They are relevant at the end of the season and are at least in the discussion of being one of the better teams in the region, when they're playing to their capabilities.
With a lot of the big dogs on the team coming back next year, we as Bearcat fans may actually be able to see something we're not accustomed to; Consistency.
Good luck to Richlands next week. We know it's going to be a dogfight!

One thing that everyone can agree on is that we LOVE high school football on this board. But I think sometimes we’re all to quick to criticize and scrutinize other teams merely because we want so badly for our beloved team to be the best and for this to be “the year”. But I think we all need to give all our local teams a cyber pat on the back. In 2D Of course we have union and graham riding high as expected. But we also have Ridgeview at 8-1, Marion as well, va high playing football to a level they haven’t in years. Battle, lee, and Grayson have all took a step forward in my opinion this year and you also have my beloved blues scrapping and clawing like almost no other 3-6 team could. And you’ve also got tazewell kids absolutely breaking their backs to compete week in and out with their teams they play and refusing to quit.
But you also have Grundy, whose had a great turnaround season, chilhowie looking like a 1 D monster and also narrows really putting on a good show.

There are other feel good stories on the season as well and some not so great. The point of my long winded post is this. These kids play their hearts out and I think football this year in our area has been top notch as far as competition and effort go. One thing I fully believe is whatever teams make it out of our regions, they’re gonna be battle tested and ready. Football in southwest va is special. It just means more to us hillbilly’s and most of the state just doesn’t understand us and our passion for our schools. I see it as their loss. Because I have spent many a Friday night at Ernie hicks having the best of times and it really is a beautiful thing when youre in those moments in the stands and those big time swva games are going to the wire in a flat out barn burner. You all know what I’m talking about.
So I just wanna say I hope with everything in me, that the blue tornado somehow shocks the world and finishes the season at 9-6. But if that doesn’t happen I hope one or more of our local teams play those teams from “the rest of the state”, deliver a flat out ass whipping, and bring home the gold this year.

I just wanted to make a comment on something you all mentioned briefly. Ryan, I think you made a reference to Appomattox playing Goochland or poquoson. However, I think the state title will include a team from region B. It’s probably the deepest region in 2. You have undefeated central, Clarke, a lee team who took it to riverheads last week as well as a really dangerous luray, Stuart’s draft, and even east Rockingham looks really solid. Go look at Goochlands s hefile and find a win for them that really impresses you, because I can’t find one. They play some really weak teams and are a paper tiger in my opinion.

The thing about this statement is, even richlands  “average teams” in the recent past have kind of been a nussiance to the rest of southwest va. For example 2008, 2013, and 2014.
2013 Included a loss to lord botetour 56-6 or something yet they still made the quarterfinals that year.
2014: they lose to gate city, union, and abingdon. Yet they still make the semifinals and it took overtime for Wilson memorial to knock them off at home. And along the way they beat a 9-1 regular season Marion team in Marion and beat the same gate city team that beat them at the beginning of the season at legion(awesome game to see)
my point: whether people want to admit it or not, they don’t want to play richlands in the playoffs, especially in round one because you just never know with them.

I was a senior in 2010 and to this day I still fully believe that if richlands and poquoson played 100 Times, richlands would win 99 times by at least two scores, however that isn’t how state champions are crowned and they lost heartbreakingly. That team was the total package, beat eventual 2A champs gate city 31-0 in gate city that year.

The 2015 team should have won the title. All the keys were there. That 05 team was very good and just got too cocky and lost to TA. The 07 loss hurts me to the core, and I refuse to talk about it much. lol.
