  1. Abingdon should be better this year than they were last season. Coach Amburgey and Company now have had a full off season to get his program in the fashion he wants it to operate. Strength and conditioning has been a priority for the Falcons and they all look physically bigger and stronger. From what I'm hearing there has been good numbers out for spring and summer workouts. The Falcons will still need to settle on the QB position and it appears they have filled the holes left by graduation. RB Martin Lucas looks like a physical specimen. He will certainly be carrying the load early on.
  2. Abingdon's new helmet look for this season
  3. Thats a pretty bold statement considering 2D-Graham is loaded and I would venture that 1D-Chilhowie will have some really good talent.
  4. And Football Season has officially begun. Amen! Preach!
  5. These are the only ones I know of for Mtn 7 All District from Abingdon. Anyone know of the others?
  6. Hard to believe Mtn 7 and Region D hasn't been released yet. I know when we played Fluvana they made their all region awards after the game.
  7. Now I'm not completely sure but, There's really only one direction that program could go. DOWN! As a former player and alumni of JIB who played for Coach Adams when her was getting into coaching back in the mid 80's. it's really a sad day when this happens. The man has built this program into a juggernaut. It's been said numerous times, Politics and sports never mix well and the ones who will suffer most usually have no say.

  9. Best of luck to all our SWVA teams as they begin the state tournament. Bring home some hardware boys.

  11. I didn't think Botty was better than Christiansburg, but baseball is a funny game, as we all know. It looked like they had some timely hits and the Burg could never get anything going. Congrats to the Cavs on their win and we will see what happens today. Neither team looked far and above better then some teams the Falcons played this season. D-B, Daniel Boone, Lebanon (scrimmage), Union, VHS, John Battle or even the Licking Valley team from Ohio have all been quality opponents. To answer your second question. NO. The Falcons will play to win and keep going with their regular rotation. This team isn't any different than they have been for the last 6-8 years. They go with the mentality to win every time they take the field. I don't see it being any different the rest of the way. If anyone has watched them play they would notice that Abingdon makes team pay for making mistakes. Its been a trend all year with this team. Again, I don't see them changing their approach today or at the state tournament.
  12. Staunton River is really good. They have solid pitching and they were well coached. Errors and mental mistakes is what cost them.
  13. Oh how I have missed football season. Only a few more short weeks and this board will be a bustle with football talk and camaraderie once again.
  14. District Tournament Semi Finals at Abingdon on Sat. Game 1 is at 4:30. Teams TBD. Abingdon will play the winner of the 4/5 game at 7 pm Championship will be played on Monday according to the BHC. Not sure what time though
  15. Abingdon's Baseball team just said "Hold my gatorade" You see what I did there.
  16. Saturday May 18th @ Abingdon High School No. 1 Abingdon vs winner No. 5 Central at No. 4 Gate City No. 7 Ridgeview at No. 2 John Battle winner vs No. 6 Lee High at No. 3 Union winner I guess that's what the schedule will look like
  17. Does anyone know any info on the district tournament? Seeding? Locations? Haven't really heard anything but it should be starting next week correct?
  18. I really am trying to look at this schedule impartially. Where is there opportunities for GC to get the win Aug. 30 - @ Richlands- NO. Not at Ernie Hicks Sept 6 - Abingdon- Don't see them beating what could be a loaded Falcon team Sept. 13 - Sullivan South (TN)- Maybe depending on what South has coming back this year Sept. 20 - @ Ridgeview- NO Sept. 27 - Lee High- This might be their best chance. Lee is going through a lot right now Oct. 4 - @ George Wythe- Highly unlikely. Marrons are generally a playoff team Oct. 11 - Marion (HC) - Possible. Who knows what going on in Marion from year to year. Oct. 18 - @ Union- No Oct. 25 - @ John Battle- Depending on who the coach is. It could go either way Nov. 1 - Wise Central- No. Warriors are my pick to be the most improved team this season
  19. Moore from JSB is a senior. He could certainly help. And he is a lefty.
  20. Right now Tanner Barrs and TJ Taylor are leading Abingdon in batting average. Somewhere in the .450 range with each having double digit RBI stats
  21. Playing the game gives you some perspective, but not the total aspect of the game. Being a student of the game and applying that to your coaching philosophy can be just as valuable. I guess it's about dedication and drive. If you played the game and think the way it was played when you participated and never evolve, you could end up being a bad coach also. If you are a student of the game and continue to grow and learn the game, even never having played a down, you could still be a quality coach and mentor to young men. I guess what I'm trying to say is. Sometimes players don't make good coaches and some non players do. It all comes down to dedication and drive to be great at your craft. And yes I played the game from when I was 6 years old through high school.
  22. So your saying there is shot! All joking aside you are right. The chances of that happening are very rare and the Falcons were very fortunate to get their guy. Most coaches would have to come in and build from the ground up.
