  1. Redtiger..I didn't get a chance to go to Ridgeview's first game so I didn't see Gauges injury. However, I did speak to him at a track meet a few months ago and he said he felt like the injury may not have happened on grass. Who knows huh? Anyway, I just hate that he didn't get to finish out his senior year. Great kid with great parents.
  2. I don't mind the weather:-) I'll have to agree, 5 Star is a good stadium. I've played in and been to many that are far worse. Central could use that wind to their advantage though. Ridgeview is far better than most but it's newer than most too. The home and visitors sections have plenty of room around the front rows. Central should have constructed theirs that way too. If Ridgeview had grass, Gauge Hill would've had a monster senior year.

  5. Here is a link. There were 97 boys and girls combined total performances that met the MileStat Elite standard. Zero gold, 10 silver and 87 bronze. http://va.milesplit.com/results/virginia-meet-results?year=2016&month=05&season=outdoor&level=all&page=1
  6. A couple years ago my friend told me he drove his son and Erikk Banks to UVAWise and was told they didn't have time to even show them the fieldhouse. My friends son isn't playing football anymore but Erikk is now with Va Tech. Of course Erikk is by far better off at VA Tech, no comparison. In my opinion, this is just another example of why UVAWise needs to clean house in their recruiting department.
  7. UVAObserver, exactly. Thank you thank you thank you....
  8. I quit reading and started cursing when they added failed humor, imho anyway, toward the Dallas Cowboys. After I calmed down, I finished the WHOLE story like the addict I am. So here it goes and as they say, "I tell 'em like I read 'em". This person may or may not live in Norton or Big Stone. They know someone who knows someone from Gate City...................Sorry, had a finger cramp. This person from GC claims to know or be behind the inner workings of the GC football program. No ordinary guy mind you, he's the type that has the answer to "Is there another word for synonym?" The only guy to beat the crap out of Chuck Norris "elite" type of guy. Anyhow, GC guy is trying to persuade a retired coach from Dobyns Bennett to come on over to GC. Oh yeah, he may even bring some good players with him from Tennessee. The writer cheers for Union (Oh, they do live in Big Stone!!!) and really really really X million doesn't want to lose to Gate City. The writer also knows people from Big Stone who by circumstance know other people from Scott County. (It really is a small world.) Apparently there isn't any significant value to these Scott Countians. They know jack squat about GC football...............I gotta go, it's late and my whole damn hand is numb now.
  9. So sorry for your loss. Our prayers are with you and your family.
  10. I don't know the young man Gavin but it says a lot about him for VMI to want him. You know Brad Robbins has all the inside scoop on the kid and I don't think he would take a chance on him if he was a trouble maker.
  11. That's really cool. Thanks for sharing.
  12. And to the Virginia Beach litigation and appeals attorney, Kevin Martingayle, I just want to know that when votes are being cast on behalf of OUR children in Southwest Virginia, that they’re not being punished because they happen to be from a rural, less populated part of the state.
  13. I too would love to see Johnson in a Cowboys uniform. Jason Garrett and staff are coaching one side in the Senior bowl. This is a plus for Dallas to see what a hard worker this kid is and that he is the "right kid of player". So hopefully he will play on the team Red coaches. Good article below. http://sportdfw.com/2016/01/13/cowboys-draft-rbfb-devon-johnson-two-birds-one-stone/
  14. Bigrhsfan...I'm jealous. Cal is my all-time favorite baseball hero. Billy Wagner, 100mph, enough said right? Thomas and Julius Jones - Worked with their dad until Thomas was drafted. Justin Hamilton - Played pick up bball with him on Lick Creek when he was around 12 yrs old. You could tell he was a very gifted athlete then. Heath Miller, Virginia's version of Jason Witten. Calvin Talford. In my opinion, one of the best all around athletes to come out of SWVA. He could reach coins from the top of a back board. Throw or slap a baseball good enough to be selected in the amateur draft by the Phillies. Won the 1992 NCAA slam dunk championship, (worth googling). Still holds a couple vhsl single A records in track (high jump at 7' & triple jump at 49'8.25").
  15. Hope everyone is having a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.
  16. Those are some very impressive stats. Doesn't that put the young man in the VHSL record book?
