  2. Holy Cow, @Bluefield researcher . You're amazing. Did all these coaches play for Merrill Gainer or were some assistant coaches?
  3. Thanks for sharing @Bluefield researcher. I just read where Merril Gainer coached both Glynn Carlock and Joel Hicks at Big Creek. Needless to say, the communities of Coalwood and War have produced some phenomenal people. http://www.roanoke.com/webmin/other/coach-s-coach/article_46d5fe3e-b5bb-513c-8dc2-cd5bfaa3f053.html
  4. I'm not sure how the old rule read, but basically you weren't eligible to play during the semester you transferred. I remember occasions of basketball players who moved into a new school in the Fall but waiting until Spring semester (January) to be eligible.
  5. This kid was the starting QB-DB at Western Branch and played against Oscar Smith on October 27th in a district game. Even in their utter lack of competence, it's stunning that VHSL lacks a policy to prevent this type of travesty.
  6. You're correct. I was jokingly praising VHSL in their handling of the postponed games. Afterwards, I found the Oscar Smith article.
  7. This would be the equivalent of a player playing for one Tazewell County school in the regular season and then playing for a different one in the playoffs. Oh, the possibilities.
  8. Oscar Smith transfer plays in state semis three days after enrolling. http://www.fredericksburg.com/sports/fls_varsity/high-school-football-oscar-smith-s-roster-addition-still-bugs/article_24513a10-bc8d-5a8f-bc00-f7564a9eeaf7.html
  9. VHSL looks masterful compared to GHSA. Those kids are going from playing in Mercedes-Benz Stadium to a high school field.
  10. Yes they are. I think sixcat's assessment of Galax has been spot-on. Certainly Chilhowie will have a say in all this next year. I just thought it was worth noting that Riverheads is not going away soon.
  11. There was Ralph Sampson up in Harrisonburgs . Is that considered SWVA?
  12. Bad news for the rest of 1A. "...I only have eight seniors on this year's team and some of them weren't even there two years ago. We've got a ton of sophomores and juniors and we start two freshmen. We truly are a young football team." Robert Casto, Riverheads' Head Coach http://www.heraldcourier.com/sports/class-football-championship-casto-has-riverheads-back-in-familiar-territory/article_08694144-dba8-11e7-9f8c-e70114f4a38b.html
  13. Seasons Jeremy Pruitt will coach UT? The OVER/UNDER is 4
  14. -SWVAGridiron doesn't have connections. He is the connection! -Rick "Bear Dog" Blevins was a stud on the wrestling mat for Chilhowie. Well, maybe he was a "steed". He was whichever one is more impressive. -Entertaining show, guys...Thanks
  15. I was trying to follow his coaching assignments. It looked like his first stint at Louisa Co was 2003-2010. He moved to Murrells Inlet SC and coached at St James High in 2010. He was first diagnosed in 2012. He returned to Louisa Co as HC in 2014 until now, but he have missed some time during treatments.
  16. Coach Fischer is from TX but played Tight End for Concord. His wife is from Gilbert, WV and also graduated from CU.
  17. http://www.roanoke.com/sports/high_schools/football-only-part-of-the-fight-for-louisa-county-head/article_f37c459c-ae4e-5e42-a2e1-e00ce3509981.html
  18. Did someone mention Caleb Jennings?! This never gets old.
  19. RE Lee QB Jayden Williams is the real deal. Lee looks impressive on film. They dominated a talented Riverheads team. IMHO, I think they can play with Appo.
  20. Years ago the NCAA capped the season at 12 games (6 home + 5 away + bowl) and in 1989 vowed "to protect and enhance the physical and educational welfare of student-athletes." Since then the NCAA has: Expanded cap to 13- So schools could boost revenue with 7 home games. Expanded cap to 14- So schools could participate in the lucrative conference championship. Expanded cap to 15- So schools could participate in the lucrative 4-team CFP. Expand cap to 16? Never! Because the NCAA has vowed "to protect and enhance the physical and educational welfare of student-athletes."
  21. Who will win a 2A state championship next: Old School powers (i.e.Gate City, Giles, Graham, Richlands) or New School powers (i.e. Union, Ridgeview)?
  22. Least appealing place to coach: Gate City or University of Tennessee?
  23. Which is harder: Tackle Truck Edwards or defeat the Demogorgon?
