  1. I remember a good Clintwood team not making it one year, can't remember what year but I believe they were 8-2. Also, if I'm not mistaken, Honaker was 9-1 and didn't make it which is crazy to think about nowadays. I believe Haysi had a couple of seasons with 3 or fewer losses and didn't make the playoffs. I'm sure there are plenty more too.
  2. Me too. I wish the format was like this back in those days.
  3. Remember when, at one point in time, 8-2 wasn't good enough to get in the playoffs!
  4. You call it sarcasm others call it the truth

  6. What I don't understand is how a few fans voicing displeasure means the fans have quit on them. I'd like to see other schools with 0 wins and compare the number of fans at the game. The home side is nearly full minus what's in the reserved seating plus what's sitting on the away side. Translation, more than half full. I've said it is a down cycle in talent the past few years and it wouldn't matter who was the coach but I truly believe it wouldn't be this bad if the coach cared or knew what he was doing. It's a testament to the team the way they didn't give up last night and almost came back to win the game.
  7. I believe it was a freshman game but he should still face something.
  8. The line has size that's why I feel like GC could have hung with Ridgeview last week. GC just couldn't get out of their own way with all the fumbles. They have no pass game but when they decide to throw it downfield it's almost always an interception. All they need to do is run it up the middle and when the defense cheats run a jet sweep with #2 or #11.
  9. Same for #11. He's quick and doesn't run scared. On kickoffs they just need to put #2 and #11 back there and let them have at it.

  11. I thought some type of EMS had to be present in order for a game to be played. If that is not a rule then it should be one. With a physical sport like football, anything can happen in a split second and seconds can be the difference between life and death. I'd be interested in finding out what is said about this situation.
  12. I hope he stays. In today's age, exposure comes from the camps during the summer so he obviously has been seen by some of the P5's. I don't necessarily see the advantage of moving unless there are schools he likes farther away that haven't seen him.

  14. This team lacks any fundamentals and that rests squarely on the shoulders of the head coach. To fumble as much as this team does tells me they aren't used to getting hit in practice. GC hurt themselves last night. They were very capable of keeping the score close but kept turning the ball over. I'm not sure but did Ridgeview even attempt more than 10 passes? They couldn't have completed more than 40% of them if they did. A couple of times they tried to go deep but the qb was missing them. The stud rb was good. GC doesn't know how to hit and you can't arm tackle him. Is there any chance he may transfer to a bigger school? I personally wouldn't think so since he's already getting the attention where he's at now.
  15. Abingdon will continue to beat up on the little guys, lol!! 3A over 2A in this one. 42-6
  16. If GC will focus on the run game early and use their size they can keep it close. What gets them in trouble is the 3-5 step drop and chucking it down the field to nobody or the other team. Limit the turnovers early and we're looking at a possible 4 quarters with no running clock again for the 2nd straight week. RV-38 GC-12
  17. I agree. The polls are a good discussion starter for us to have on a message board. Disagreement doesn't always mean disrespecting. We all have our opinions but it's fun talking why one would feel team a is ranked higher then team b. Ultimately, the VHSL doesn't crown champions based on the SWVA Poll so it's all in fun anyways.

  19. I get it and that's what makes the polls fun because everybody takes a different approach. I would definitely have Ridgeview as my #1 then Chilhowie then Union. It really doesn't mean anything especially with Chilhowie and Union being in different classes but it does help create some dialogue back and forth, all in good fun.
  20. Seeing that Graham and Richlands aren't in the WCYB coverage, who would you have as #1? I'm assuming the VA and TN polls are separate. I just can't predict that Union would defeat Chilhowie strictly because it's Union. If wins don't count for something then why play and not just set the playoffs with the teams with the most historic background. If we go by those standards then GC is a playoff team, and everybody knows they aren't.
  21. At some point wins should have to be rewarded somehow, don't you think. Chilhowie, up to this point, has taken care of every team that they've played so far. Do we know if they would beat the likes of Union, Graham or Richlands? I truly don't know because they don't play each other. Unfortunately, for me, ODU beat VT last week so anything is possible.
  22. There was a lot of talk on if a SWVA team could compete with a good NETN team. Here is an opportunity to see. MW isn't in any stretch a good NETN but they are a big school. Union is one of the good teams this year in SWVA. I think this game will prove that "size matters"!!! I think it will be close but I give the advantage to the home team.
