Update: The Tiger Taco still exists on little league Saturdays at Sandlick. I had one two weeks ago, and Brady's opinion is agreed with. It's right up there with an Eagles Nest from RC.

Bluefield, WV fail to perform routine maintenance?  With the pristine condition of their business district and downtown?  With the glorious street posts from the 1960s?  Surely you jest!

Can you at least give a reason why you think they are not the best team in the coverage area?
I'm a fan of neither Chilhowie or RV but, handling is what happened to Lee High at the Stone Castle. From all accounts, the 1's played each other fairly close in that "game".

It is. The only thing I know about St.Charles is a tale I heard that back before consolidation they were known as the Midgets. Well, guess what the elementary had on their jerseys....The Little Midgets. I find it very hard to believe but, if I am not messing it up, I got that on good account.
 
Also, if anyone doesn't think Bluefield is the legit #1 around here right now, I have the number to a few doctors that can examine your eyes, head, sanity....
I get that his or her lack of acknowledging this at this point is more than likely out of spite, but is that the hill you want to die on? It's only week 2.

I sat near the 50 yd line at the Ridgeview benefit game with Chilhowie. As I recall, the game was tied at 17 at half time. In the third quarter, Chilhowie scored on a 42 yd FG to make it 20-17 Chilhowie. Ridgeview got the ball and ran a series, but did not score. That was it as far as the first teams for the game. The 2's and 3's finished the game for both squads, with Ridgeview scoring 2 late TD's.  The Adkins kid for RV did not carry the ball but about 1or 2 times in that 3rd quarter. I think he got shook up before half, and RV limited his play in the 3rd qrt. It was a very well played game for both squads in my opinion. The coaches for both teams did a good job in directing the format for the second half. These two teams are very good, and about even imo. One thing for sure. Ridgeview could not stop Chilhowie's Sanchez, and Chilhowie had their hands full with the Adkins kid.  BOTH Blevins ( CHS ) and Sexton ( RV) did very well also. The QB's had a good game, and so did the D's. It was a benefit game, and all in attendance got the benefit of watching 2 good teams play.

The gap between VA High and Abingdon is much closer than the gap between Battle and VA High. You're realistic in the expectations for this week, but Abingdon would be a middle of the road 2A team most years.

The poll thread saga got me to thinking. Hypothetically, if Bluefield played Greeneville(TN), what would that game look like in your all's mind?
Are there any other "dream" matchups for us fans you all can think of that we may never or wait a really long time to see?

I don't know if another state title appearance is in cards for Chilhowie, but they look the part of a deep run 1A team. A big key is that their big guys are athletic, and while they've got some weaknesses, it will be a long time before they run into a 1A team that can exploit them. The most dangerous part though is their depth. If they can out-rotate a 2A school and leave them standing with their hands on their knees, there's not much more you can ask for.
It was a pretty good game for three and a half quarters, and then the lack of experience and leadership from Marion's corp started to show through. They seemed to get tired and emotionally deflated after going down by a couple of scores and things kind of escalated on them. Marion's not a bad team, but they're not world beaters, and in what appears to be VERY deep SWD, they may get lost in the shuffle, but they'll get better as the season progresses.
But hey, no coaches got ejected and Robinson and Carroll didn't punch each other, so I consider the game a success based on where it seemed like it was going in the first half.

It is still relatively early for any meaningful ranking, but I would say without seeing the rest of 1A that the ceiling for Hurley this year is top 5. They play a relatively week schedule out of the district, but I'd say the worst case scenario for them is 6-4.

Day 1 for me as an actual member instead of a spectator which I have been for around 5 years. I hope to be able to contribute worthy and credible information in my time here.

1. Beaver-they just reload. WV football is a step behind VHSL IMO, and their road to success may be just a little smoother. This doesn't take away from the fact that they are the de facto most talented team in the area year in and year out.
2.Ridgeview- Finally getting used to a 2A schedule, and familiarity with each other as a team while finding their true identity.
3.Union- They may miss Mitchell, but having a healthy Bailey Turner certainly lessens the sting of a substantial loss. IF they stay healthy, they could be back in a region final game, no doubt about it.
4. Graham- To be the man, you've got to beat the man. Whoever that will be this year, as it looks to be a two or three horse race, but the big question is can they get over the hump when November comes around.
5.Richlands- They'll be back from a subpar year by Mance's standards. I'm not saying they make a deep run, but I see them winning more than four games, and they should be competitive in any losing efforts they should incur. That was not the case in some of those games last year.
6.Chilhowie- Literally almost everyone is back from a state finals run. They could beat a lot of 2A schools in the area.
7.Grundy- Don't sleep on the Wave. Their rushing attack may not be as prolific as it was last year, but with Fiser coming back, and a bad taste in their mouth from an early playoff exit, they could rattle off 8-9 wins. Their lack of a really daunting schedule is what would stop them from making any really deep runs. Plymal gets the best out of his kids, and this is the beginning of year 3 for him at the helm. We should see them continue to get better and better.
8.Galax- Galax is going to be Galax. Great coaching, and great athletes should get them to where they normally are when the leaves fall off the trees.
9.Marion- A 2A program certainly on the rise. I'm not sure how high their ceiling is, but they always have size and a little bit of speed.
10. Va. High- See Marion.
Honorable mention: Tazewell, Abingdon, JSB, Hurley
