Having played both, I think Battles new scheme better suits them, and defensively I felt they were better,  more physical.  But I think it could go either way based on turnovers.

I also don't think Central  is quite as good now, with the injuries they  have had. So that should be taken into consideration. A lot on here are saying the Pioneers go 0-10, however I think they steal 1 or 2, but who knows in could be wrong and if I am I will admit it.

How many times have you said va High is bad and they will lose by 50 or the other team will name the score, and please patronize us with your holier then now response. Your honesty about Va High doesn’t bother me at all, and YES I will say that the seniors that quit have a false sense of entitlement and that goes for their parents as well. Being a Christian has nothing to do with it. I call it just like I see it as well. Yes, Va High isn’t very good, due to youth, and only 2 seniors that quit even played in previous years. No one is on this board talking about how bad Lebanon is, because they do not care. Keep shading what you say about VA High, I promise you I know a lot more about the situation than your hearsay!

You are wasting my time and aren't worth it. I'm going to keep predicting  VA High to get blown out now just to bother you.  For example  Abingdon 60 to 0.

People pick lebanon to get blown out all the time and I'm not taking it personally. Its opinions and I'm not triggered by it but apparently  you are.

What is your fixation with VA High?  You constantly come on here and bash how bad they are. Stick with Lebanon, Pioneer Pride. Guess what, they are still better than the Pioneers. Your agenda of bashing them has gotten old. Yes, they had players quit, yes, they don’t have the same team they have had. They are playing freshman and sophomores.  Seniors had a very false sense of entitlement.

I have to admit I wake up every day looking for ways to bash the Bearcats, because I have such a fixation  on them and my life revolves around bashing them nonstop. That is totally who I am.....Not!! I have a life and i assure it doesn't revolve around the Bearcats. I wish the Bearcats success. I've got family members  who go to school there and one who is in the band. I support them every time I can and you telling me to stick with Lebanon isn't going to change that, so get over it. My association  with lebanon is career related and doesn't concen you. I also have an association  with Abingdon but again it doesn't concern  you either. I'm going to be up front and honest about what I post, because I'm an honest person and dont sugar coat things. If a team is bad they are bad, its life and we don't always get a trophy. If my honesty  about Virginia  High bothers you then i suggest you take it a little less seriously,  it's only high school football. I only posted a rumor and said it was another tough break for the team that is struggling. There is no bashing in that. I know one of the seniors who quit quite well and he is not entitled  he is a very good Christian  young man, I dont appreciate  you saying that he had a false sense of entitlement. That is bashing a teenager actually. That shows me you don't know as much as you think you do. As for the Lebanon game, we will find out when it happens. If we lose, we lose and I'm good with it and I will congratulate the Bearcats  for it. Have a truly blessed day. Good luck to all teams Friday  night, especially  the Bearcats as they play Abingdon.

  4. Just curious I heard from people in Abingdon that Virginia High had a few players quit this week...is there any truth to this rumor? It came from people close to Abingdon's AD. If it's TRUE an already struggling Virginia High team just got worse...tough season for the Bearcats.

Not even trying to be disrespectful but I don’t even wanna state my prediction. I believe graham has this by as much as they want.

Totally understand and I agree with you.

I wish lebanon could pull the same type of upset JJ Kelly did to Powell Valley on 10-15-99, when their 34 game win streak came to an end in Wise. It would  be epic, but it won't happen with these Pioneers. Graham is going roll in this one.

Battle has too many key injuries to win this one I know central is banged up too but unless the young QB from battle has grown up a lot since his first game and that o line has improved I see central taking this one in a 21-14 game

More like Central  by 14 +

GMen are good and have yet to prove as good as last year. I know they've had some injuries, kids banged up, other starters out, I get that affects plays.  The only really solid teams they've played have beat them though. Still undisciplined, there was no home cooking in Princeton. It was called pretty much down the middle, others may want to argue that point. IMO, GMen thought they could roll this season and if they don't clean things up , they'll be lucky to squeak by Richlands. You cannot have over a dozen penalties against Richlands. They can probably still pull out the win in Lebanon with that many penalties. The season is half over, buckle down and put your heads on straight. GMen are very good and have had explosive plays and great games. Got some great playmakers, They have the ability to go deep in the playoffs.  I'd just like to see more disciplined play across the board. I think they win easily but let's limit the self inflicted wounds. Go GMen!

I hate it, but they will cruise Friday night. Lebanon has been improving  some but they aren't anywhere near that level this season. Maybe in a couple years it will be tougher. I'm just hoping Lebanon hangs tough, doesn't get too beat up and uses this game to improve before they play two winnable games against Castlewood  and  Virginia  High.

Lebanon's defense is the reason why Marion won that game. Lebanon was only the second team this year to allow more than seven points from Marion's offense (they scored nine points in two games by getting safetys). In fact, if you remove garbage time and defensive scores from the equation, Marion was only averaging 8 points per game before Lebanon, while allowing 23 points, which isn't bad considering that they were turning the ball over four times a game. I've seen every game that Marion's this season and I have to say, I don't believe the narrative that Marion has suddenly found an offense, and I don't say that to crap on Marion or Lebanon, but it was the traditional "Marion homecoming shootout" that the Canes play every year, and I don't think based on what I saw that their offense is that good or that their defense is that bad.

I definitely  agree on Lebanon's defense, it's not good. I mean to hold a 38 to 34 lead with 40 seconds to go and give up a long drive ending with a td, which included a 15 yard penalty  on the pioneers  is just bad.

  9. 3 hours ago, Plywood_King said:

Marion's defense has been stout against downfield run-oriented teams and their offense has been anemic most of the season. If the season thus far has been an indication, if GC scores 21 points, they win.

They gave up 38 to lebanon and over 300 yard, they were lucky to win that one.

  10. 9 hours ago, Plywood_King said:

Yeah, those were the two I was thinking of XD

I found it hard to believe that Lebanon is winless. Not that Marion is a great team, but for goodness sake, Lebanon scored more points against Marion in the first four minutes of the game than Battle and Grayson did in eight quarters. They should have the numbers, size, and speed to compete as a middle of the road 2A team, they've just got to learn to win. I wouldn't be shocked if they surprise Tazewell too.

That's what I've noticed  as well. The major issue is their youth. They  have 19 freshman on the roster, some actually  play. So learning how to win is the hardest  part of formula  for them. I'm expecting  them to upset somebody on a night everything falls into place, who that team will be I'm not sure.  I honestly  expect them to be a decent team next season, they lose a couple important  players in the QB and and receiver, but they have a QB coming up who is quick and can throw on the JV squad  that is 3-1, with wins against Honaker,  Eastside,  and Grundy with their lose coming  to Ridgeview. Lebanon has some young talent coming up in the next year or two.

VA High is a big maybe.

I would agree, but the speed in the VHS backfield concerns me. Lebanon has had trouble with speed all year. After watching Virginia  High 4 times, they are predictable on offense. Especially since they  have been mostly  running a form of the wildcat  with Thomas  at QB. If Lebanon  can keep him somewhat controlled it increases  their odds a lot. I think Lebanon  will be able to score on them enough if their passing game is working. Again though we will have to see, I've learned  not to get my hopes up with this pioneer team, because  they haven't figured out how to win yet.

Noticed no discussion on this.  Think Central can hang?  Wonder any of the schools that make Central up have ever beat Abingdon?  I can't remember any games between Kelly or Pound and Abingdon.  Also anyone know if this game will be on the radio?  Be nice to have a thread posting games and the media broadcasting them.

I remember kelly playing abingdon in the late 90s, like 98 ??? And losing. Central has never beat Abingdon  and it's never been  particularly  close.

VA High is would be a hard job IMO for a few reasons. First there is a lot more to do in Bristol than Chilhowie. Kids have other options and just don’t come out. In a town like Chilhowie that prides themselves of community support and kids want to play on the same field that big brother and dad and granddad did that makes a did difference as far as numbers go. Plus just not much to do. Second, it has to be hard to build a program when your sport plays second fiddle to a power house program that is sending kids to college. Why play football and get hurt when I can get my school paid for and play baseball. I don’t agree with it but VA High is not the only victim in this. Just look at Lebanon (baseball) and Gate City (basketball). Coach Crist is a good coach and does the best he can with what he has to work with. He lost a ton of seniors and is having to rebuild. The playoffs are out of the question this year but they will get back soon.

I totally agree. If all of Lebanon's athletes  played from baseball and basketball  we would have a fairly  good team.  I don't agree with it , but when kids are getting full rides to play D1 or playing minors it's hard to argue. It was also a problem  at  JJ Kelly when I was in school there. The baseball program ruled  the school. It took a coach by the name of Kevin Saunders  to turn it around during the Shupe Era.

I think lebanon will be more competitive  next year, right now they are just too young. Our 9th and 8th grade team on the other hand is 3-1 so far and has a lot of talent, we will see if that will translate down the road.

Just thinking this one might be a surprise to the people posting.

I highly doubt it, I've seen Va high on multiple  occasions, they've improved  some since Tazwell  but not enough  to be competitive  in this one. They have major problems  containing  speed.

When you have 11 injuries, I guess that is expected.  Several key players are out fornthe rest ofnthe season this year.  Been a tough couple of years for injuries for the Bulldogs.

That's the breaks sometimes. Maybe  lebanon will steal a win due to injuries again this year against  Tazwell,  but I doubt it.

Chilhowie pulls away at the end. The speed and overall line play of chilhowie will be the difference maker in this one. Plus chilhowie has a winning culture right now that gives them 7 points before the game even starts.

I'd be surprised  if Va High  kept close longer than a quarter. They caught Central  on a night that they weren't  ready to play, Chilhowie  will be from the start.

If they win the games they should they will be in the play offs now that may mean going to bullit park or RV first round but they should get in. I feel for the Harris kid he one heck of a ball player

One could only hope,  last year they imploded when injuries  happened.

That’s 5 or 6 from this team alone with bad knee injuries....

I hate that for them I was hoping they'd make the playoffs for  the first time in years, maybe they still will. Its neat seeing a young team come of age, and it sucks when petty plays affect their ceiling. I'm  hoping the pioneers  will get it together  in the next year or so until then I will just enjoy watching  them improve and take their lumps.

Good luck to the Bulldogs  the rest of the way.

What was your prediction for the central - va high game?

At the time Central by as much as they wanted. Honestly  Central didn't show up for that game, Virginia  High did. When Central  decided to wake up they scored 3 tds in a row to win the game. As long as Chilhowie  shows up like they are capable  of they will be fine.  It's not the same Virginia  High  team from the past couple of years, this game will be a struggle  for them. Chilhowie's speed will really hurt them.
