The right team and defenders could cool his heels. What is plan B if Ridgeview plays someone in playoffs that puts the skids on him. Does Ridgeview have other playmakers that can step up? I know very little about RV other than Adkins. He is phenomenal for sure but even the best can be tripped up if the defense is strong and smart enough.
Such heartbreaking; prayers for Alex’s family, friends, teammates, coaches, and the Roane community. The Bluefield community can certainly empathize with such a loss. It’s going to be hard on everyone in attendance to deal with witnessing such a tragedy. I cannot even imagine. Very sad 😔
What does the board see as Giles' biggest advantage? I saw someone mentioned single wing and Graham doesn't see a lot of that from teams they play. Is it enough to affect the outcome though? Thoughts?
I don’t see Graham’s defense having much trouble with single wing and if they do, they’ll make adjustments. The Graham seem to be great at making adjustments when needed. I think that’s what helped last when they fine tuned the defense and finally got it clicking. The difference this year is the defense started out strong and offense is getting better. If Giles keeps it as close as two scores, I’ll be surprised. With that said, it’s football anything could happen.
tomorrow is the day gmen get humbled!!!!!!!! wooooooooo go #beavers!!!!!!!!!! no cam no state title!! Taz may bust that A$$ this year!!! we eatin
Let's just hope for a good game & no injuries for either team. It's going to be an emotional night for both sides as Little Tony was special to members on both teams that have much respect for each other. I'm not saying G-Men win but I think they will have a respectable showing against a tough Bluefield and kudos to them if they surprise a naysayer like yourself.
My thoughts are the game will be a closer this year than last with Graham's defense way ahead of where they were last year at the beginning of the season. Offense isn't there yet. Bluefield is strong on both sides of the ball. I know most people are handing the game to Bluefield but I'm hoping that Graham can pull out the W. It will certainly be a hard fought contest and great atmosphere for fans.
I would suggest Graham vs Bluefield but that's a bit of a drive for you. Hopefully a close game and great game play from both teams. The place is packed out every year, great Friday Night Lights atmosphere. There's a local mom & pop's pizza place called Pacific Pizza, prices are very reasonable & food is good; pizza is made to order & baked right in front of you.
Any blues-gmen fans watching richlands grundy and graham in their scrimmage. Tell us what yall think as well.
Graham 27-0 over a much slower less athletic Cave Spring. Graham's defense may be better than last year's. They are solid. Rex Bradshaw and Dennis Palmer have them starting out much better than beginning of last year. I imagine they'll adjust as they need to though as season progresses but the are tough already. It's going to be brutal for some opponents they face. Several may not make it across mid-field too many times during a game. Offense obviously better than Cave Spring's defense but still needs some work. I think they can be formidable but it may take a two or three games to get things tightened up a bit better; hopefully, only two or three games. Lester is fast and I think when he finds open field, he's gone. Passing game needs accuracy though. I still say they're the team to beat in the SWD. All of this is my opinion, others may disagree.
Many a coach have ruined high school programs because they are totally inept at motivating kids to come out and play. (Some are inept at managing a team and other coaches - I wouldn't be able to handle it either). I always heard good things about Hart, so not saying this is the case with Bland. However, I know of other coaches who are total pricks to the kids and are more concerned about being in charge than reaching out to kids and trying to motivate them and show that they actually care about them as an individual and want them to succeed. I know- have known too many coaches like that. The best programs create a family atmosphere where the kids and coaches support each other and can also have fun. If a kid doesn't enjoy playing, there are a million other things for them to do. I agree that some kids will play regardless of the coach, but a whole heck of a lot of them don't want to have some middle aged man screaming and criticizing them. A kid can tell if you really care or not in a heartbeat and they will give a lot more effort to a coach who's heart is in it too. In Bland's case, I think it's a numbers game, very small school, little leagues aren't producing players. It's got to be tough and was just a matter of time.
Bland only has 120 boys in grades 9-12. When you take into account at least 1/3 of those participate in band, cross country, work, etc. That doesn't leave a big pool to pull from really. There are a lot of boys who play other sports but not football. Football isn't for everyone. I truly do not think we can point to one definitive thing. What's happened is a result of many contributing factors and people trying to pin the entire blame on the coach are wrong. A numbers game is definitely one of the main contributors but there are always those who like to stir the pot.
Bland County does have a middle school team. A very sad day, not having a high school team affects so much more than just football; football is the sport that brings communities together most. It'sheartbreaking for the coaches and boys that wanted to play. Two players had already transferred prior to the official decision. For schools like Bland County, 7 on 7 would be a blessing but even with just 11 players , that's still not adequate even for 7 on 7.
Bland County Bears football won't play at all in 2019. The Roanoke Times reports that the Bears will not have a team this season. Local teams like George Wythe, Rural Retreat and Northwood had games scheduled with the Bears for this season.

great state
The decision was made earlier this evening. They will still field a middle school team. I believe they have 25 boys on middle school team. It so sad for the boys who wanted to play.
Bland County numbers looking unfortunately very low. Not sure they even have a dozen.
Two of the Bland players have transferred as of today. One went to Princeton and the other to Rural Retreat, I don't see them being able to have a team but maybe I"m wrong. Very sad for the few that wanted to play.
With Webb and Forrest, they should be decent, at least 7-3. They've got 90 showing up according to another thread so I'd say they'll end up fine but doubt they'll make it past region though.
Helluva pickup for my Hokies, who are on the uptick already.
Very happy for Mac and proud of her! Years of hard work and dedication come full circle with state championship and now verbal commit to VT. She'll be an asset for the Hokies!

Ridgeview vs Pikeville Galax vs Glenvar
(Unfortunately or perhaps fortunately, I'll only be watching the Graham games in person but I cannot wait to see how the others turn out. Hopefully one of the others will be on the week Graham doesn't play.)
Trenton Adkins, is he even stoppable? Over 1000 yards in 3 games!
