@BandanaVTDavis4321 called it , sort of when he predicted Snake would probably put 7 in the box to start to stop the run, I believe I counted 9 most of the time, lol. Bold move but it worked! 40 got done good bursts which you can’t stop the power run 100% of the time but man, Graham’s defense was impressive! I forget who said they were overrated but that comment didn’t age well. Someone else said CW had the better QB, not today they didn’t! One more observation, CW looked a lot bigger on film than in person I thought.

Congratulations to the Falcons though, it was a great ride & lots of teams would have loved to have been in your shoes today! #40 was definitely as advertised! Helluva player!

Congrats G-Men!! Well done and well deserved!!

  2. Get goosebumps everytime I watch this. Marked the start of a great decade of football for both Bluefields. Does anyone know exactly where it was those two guys were standing in the beginning of the video? They talk about a new shopping plaza being built and was curious if they were talking about the old Walmart and now current Lowes Plaza when it was being built. I've been searching online a long time now for photos of all of that land before anything through there was ever built and it was all still farmland to have for keepsake.

  3. I would have to say yes. I would have liked to have seen how the NCAA and hs basketball tourneys in WV and VA would have played out this year, but if it means the difference in life and death of just one individual, I can do without. I sure hope this mess is cleared up by football season.

  4. Also a lot of times a parent will find better job opportunities out of the area, which unfortunately is totally understandable living in this area these days. Would love to see Johnson suit up for the Beavers next season, but for whatever reason, it's what is best for him and his family I suppose.

  5. I really do not know what to expect from either team going into this season, but based on what I am hearing about both teams, sounds like line of scrimmage and QB play should be huge in determining the outcome of this one. Line play and QB play are question marks and will be key to the whole season for both teams this year in my opinion.

Please tell me why Graham and Bluefield always have to be compared dag be happy for the area - Last year Bluefield got the ring this year Graham that is great for the area!

Exactly this! Everyone should just be happy regardless of which side of the Bluefields they are on. This all is just speculation that we all will never know and don't mean a thing. I know I'm ecstatic that Graham brought home a title this year because I see it as one for the whole community. Save all of the Bluefield/Graham comparison chatter for the last week in August lol.

I was at that game.  My first trip to Wheeling to watch Bluefield in a state title game. It was shocking to watch the Beavers fail to field the ball on the opening kickoff.  Mussleman recovered it inside the five and eventually scored to put the Beavers down early and Bluefield never could get into a flow to win the game.  Denero Marriott was a WR/DB on the Applemen who went on the play at Marshall.  I hated it for future Parade AA, Yubrenal Isabelle since that was the only title game he played in and it turned out to be a loss.  # 35 out there for Bluefield is an assistant on Graham's staff this year.  Here's the game video:

Yeah I hated that for Isabelle. I remember during the games I listened to on the radio that year if I recall the Bluefield announcers nicknamed Isabelle the "Bull" and Dews the "Moose" lol because they would just plow over people and they were quick. I thought the Beavers were so invincible after that win over Poca in the semifinal that year and that they would just plow over Musselman. #35 was Dissibio if I'm correct and I didn't know he was an assistant for Graham. Good for him and best of luck to him and the G-Men Saturday!

Unfortunately, on the WV side ... #3 Bluefield lost to Musselman in the championship game that was played in Wheeling. If I am not mistaken,  Musselman entered the WV playoff bracket that year as the #16 seed!

Musselman was indeed the #16 seed that season. I remember Bluefield was heavily favored by many to beat them and win the championship and there seemed to be a lot of excitement in the city the week going into that game. That game was the game that taught me as a fan that nothing is guaranteed and that you can never underestimate any opponent  Bluefield plays in any given year especially in the post season. Graham went on to win their state championship the following week as a heavy underdog it seemed and it was the Virginia side boys that ended up bringing the title back home, which was cool and seemed to make things better. So since we didn't get a repeat of 1962, hopefully we get a repeat of 1995 where the G-Men can bring their Virginia state title back home to the Bluefield area. Good luck Saturday, the whole community supports you!!

The Polar Bears will be hype for the re-match and I believe way to emotional wanting to get "revenge". Bluefield will win back to back state titles and win by at least 2 touchdowns.

I hope you are right about that prediction, but I don't know. Fairmont is pretty tough in all phases of the game. I think Bluefield is capable of beating them, but from what I've seen and know about Fairmont, Bluefield will have to play their most sound and disciplined football of the season to have a shot in my opinion. Line of scrimmage and getting to the quarterback will be the biggest factor, along with turnovers, special teams, and penalties. Should be a good one and hopefully the Beavers can pull it off, but it will be really tough. It would be nice to see both Bluefields bring home titles this year.
