    Y’all were saying...

Y’all got a damn good football team but the intelligence level is lacking. Nobody (myself included) has questioned who the best team was. Tonight the fourth best team in the M7 made it to the 2D final. The M7 has far more depth and is better as a whole than the SWD.

Doesn't own anything. The old SWD teams played at a higher classification and the competition much tougher. Sometimes you had 4A schools in the old SWD compared to many 1A schools in the old Lonesome Pine.  The LPD schools were playing at their size/enrollments. The old SWD was playing AA ball in the 70s through the mid 80s when there was 3 classifications and these teams should have been Single A, and when we went to six classifications in 86, the same was happening as many played 3A and 4A and the schools were traditionally, at the lowest end of enrollment statewide for their classification.

If I'm not mistaken GC was in the SWD in 1974 when they won their second title and maybe in the old Highlands District in 97. These SWD teams were battling historical powerhouses in the playoffs teams like Blacksburg, Salem, Martinsville in the 70-80s, Jefferson Forest, Rustburg and oh yeah...Giles. meanwhile, the LPD was battling it out with Parry McCluer, Madison County, and Bath Co.

PV had some battles over a solid team and I will give them that in Central of Lunenberg. That program was legit, but PV had three losing seasons in a row the year before consolidation and it's last title in 98ish, and Appy didn't have a winning season in it's final 3 yrs before consolidation and it's last title in 1997. That's been over 20 years. There's no question in my mind that Richland's, GC, Graham, and even Giles (dropped years before) has put a dent in those historical titles for the old LPD programs of which are nearly all consolidated.. All of a sudden, as Union has surely felt, the road to getting to the title game is incredibly more difficult. Union may have had the best team in 2017, but that's what makes it tough with the restructuring in classifications. Graham I can assure was the best team in 3A on 2 occasions it didn't win it, buy at that level of competition, you can easily lose. Same for Richland's in 93 and 2010 in my opinion, but was banned from the 4A playoffs in 93. What Union has experienced is much like what Graham and Richland's have experienced for years minus Graham's 10 year abscence from football for the latter 2000s through the mid 2010-20 decade.

PV/Union has made the playoffs every year for the last 28 years. Knocking the football in BSG is laughable. As for the whole classification line, if you think anyone was beating PV in 95/97/98 in A or AA I’ll take whatever you’re smoking.

Whats it matter? What are you gonna say next year if SWD dominates M7? Apparently like they did last year when it was an average Richlands (that went to Ridgeview and WALLOPED them) and Graham in the title game. It goes in cycles. Dont agree with 4 team format. I think you'd see a lot of teams scheduling mid tier 1a teams. Just look at GC who almost took down the number 2 team in the region.

I’d say the SWD is better. The SWD in 2018 was much better than the M7. It just gets old playing the same teams. For Union to win the regional title they’d have to win 3 rematches, not a fan.

You’re talking about the m7 dominating the swd during the regular season but really matters is the playoffs bud. SWD>M7

The SWD 2 team just got walloped by the number 4 team in the M7.

Here we go with this crap again....

Not sure how it’s crap? The M7 dominated the regular season match ups and 3 of the 4 playing next week will be M7 teams. Graham is the real deal they are the team to beat but the rest didn’t deserve to be in. This 8 team playoff is pointless, should be 4 teams.

  6. Can someone explain to me what happened at the end of the first half? GC was out of timeouts and the play clock was at zero and they didn’t back them up 5 yards on the pat?

it ended up not making a difference because Union won but that shorter extra point could have been big. GC didn’t make another one all night long.

Props to Graham. Their D is legit. They took away Steele and we were too scared to throw against their speed. Good luck the rest of the season.

Tried to tell you they’d name the score. Only team beating Graham is themselves.

I’m glad I think nothing like you.

I understand why. You’ve bought into thy everyone deserves a shot/trophy mentality. When Graham beats Richlands Friday, the Blues will finish second in their district and will have lost to the 5th place team in the other 2A district in the region. That ain’t playoff caliber to me, but hey, everyone deserves to play in November. Expand the playoffs even more,...

What in the world are you talking about???

Lets go back the last 6 seasons (2014 through this season) and see if your theory pans out:

Richlands vs. M7: Abingdon 1-0, Central 2-0, Gate City 5-1, Battle 1-0, Ridgeview 1-0, Union 1-5  --- So Richlands is 11-6 agaisnt the M7 in the past 6 seasons. You can argue that Union has had Richlands number, for sure. But not the rest.

Graham vs. M7: Central 2-0, Gate City 0-1, Battle 1-0, Union 1-3  --- Graham is 4-4 agaisnt the M7. Still not "kicking the SWD's ass" as you like to put it.

    Tazewell vs. M7: Union 0-1

    Virginia vs. M7: Abingdon 1-2, Central 2-1, Gate City 0-3, Battle 5-1, Lee 2-1,

    Marion vs. M7: Gate City 2-1, Battle 1-0, Ridgeview 1-1, Union 1-1

    Lebanon vs. M7: Central 1-3, Gate City 0-1, Battle 2-3, Lee 0-4

So extrapolating that data you get this record for the SWD vs. the M7: 31-33.   I don't know what your metric is, but "Kicked the SWDs ass up one side and down another" doesn't seem to apply when the M7 has won all of 2 more games against the SWD than they've lost.

Also, if you take Lebanon out for the SWD, it's 28-22 for the SWD. Lebanon is the anchor that is dragging the SWD back. Without them, the SWD has owned the M7 (Except for Union).

Also, last year's Region 2D final was two SWD teams, with the state champion coming from the SWD. Richlands (the 5 seed) upset top seeded Ridgeview last year to get there. Union has saved the Mountain 7 district. Without them, it hasn't been a great league for a while, imo. Adding Abingdon will help.

So please, take your trash elsewhere.

    This season pal.

    Richland is 1-2 against M7

    Graham is 0-1 against M7

    VA High is 0-3

    Lebanon is 0-1

    Marion is 0-2

So if 1-9 is competitive to you then you’re lost. Other years it’s been different. This year, the M7 has kicked the SWDs ass. I’m a believer of a four team playoff. In that setup the only SWD team that should get in is the league champ due to the league’s poor performance against the M7.

The SWD is 31-33 against the M7 since the realignment.  Were it not for Lebanon (3-11), the series would be decisively SWD.  What “dominance”!  🤣

What does past seasons have to do with this year? This year the SWD has one win if I remember correctly and it’s over the 3A school in the M7.

the region championship last year was two swd teams

Could be this year also. I prefer the old 4 team playoff. Reward the regular season. The M7 has kicked the SWDs ass up one side and down another, why should they have to do it again?

  12. I guess every time the team only wins 5 or 6 games, the poor attendance is a protest to the coaches? PV/Union supporters are like everyone else. I watched countless people pour out of the stands at Central last week. The coaches and players (past and present) make Bullitt Park a tough place to play not the bandwagon fans who are nowhere to be found in rough times. The Park wasn’t very crowded in 2011 when Union was 3-4 and GC came to town. Wasn’t very crowded in 2008 when JJK beat a very average PV team there either.

  13. The PV/Appalachia/Union program and culture is great. Bullitt Park is great when the team is good, it’s average to below average when the team isn’t contending for regional titles. From 2000 on it was a tame environment at PV games even in 04 and 06 when PV won Region D. Look at last year’s playoff game against Graham, fans had given up. People that played at PV/Union know the truth. Lose and I don’t even mean lose bad I just mean win 5 or 6 games and those fans turn on you faster than some drug snitches around here.
