Tort Law.  4 factors.  A duty to ensure no injury.  A breach of that duty occurs.  An injury occurs.  The injury is due to the actions of the person committing the harm.  All 4 must be present.  In this case, no inury occured, so there is no case.  The last one is also up for discussion, EVEN IF an injury would have occured regarding the actions were completely caused by Rife.  Why?  It was a planned event, a planned incident, and the nitwit was already down close by the bench, and there's an argument that EVEN IF injury would have occured, it wasn't completely due to Rife's actions.  There is no injury regardless, so there is no case.  A legal case is separate from High School/Tazewell County rules.  Those are two entirely separate things, but regarding the legal side, there is ZERO chance.

To play devils advocate it doesn’t have to be a physical injury. The fan can claim mental anguish or PTSD. Not saying that he will, just a thought

  2. The board has to do what’s in the best interest of the girls. Both parties were clearly in the wrong but Rife did get physical. I don’t see a way of Rife returning to coach at Richlands without it being a bigger distraction. Legally there are a lot of previous cases like this, involving stuff like pro wrestling. The thing going against Rife is that there is an expectation of safety if you are sitting in the stands. If the fan didn’t spit on him he likely has a good lawsuit. I guess Rife could just change his name to Meta World Peace. As for banning the fan I doubt the board will out of fear of litigation.

I felt like after the list was released I needed some clarification on the process so I asked around. Others may know this but I dare say some don’t. If a player doesn’t make 1st Team All District, he cannot make 1st Team All Region which is decided before the region is even concluded. A player cannot make All State if he wasn’t 1st Team All Region even if he had a spectacular game at the state level. Take Brayden Meadows for example, 100% pass completion, his best game of the season at QB was the State Championship game but he can’t receive any accolades for that because he wasn’t 1st Team QB for SWD District to begin with. It all starts at district level. You have Cody Dolin who probably had his best games against Appo & near best against CW but won’t be All State because he wasn’t 1st Team All Region and as I stated All State was already decided is my understanding before the game was even played. I could go on & on about the fairness or the process. My point being, you can’t put much stock in these things because it never shakes out fairly and the rules for how the selection work’s penalizes kids who play lights out in the playoffs in may opinion. If I had my way Graham’s ENTIRE defense would be 1st Team especially the D. Line, for district, region, and especially state but that would never happen, other coaches would not vote for that.  I guarantee a lot of kids that made 1st Team All Region but didn’t make it to the State Championship would trade that meaningless award for a ring. Just my two cents because I know there are a lot of unhappy people and hurt feelings. As a coach (which I’m not), I’d defer to Senior with all things being equal but unfortunately, lay people like me have no vote. Congratulations to the GMen on the championship  because that’s the most important award in my opinion.

I think it comes down to the horse trading between coaches. It honestly would be better if they just let the Bristol Herald pick the team. I understand Meadows a little bit due to the injury. I will say however that the championship game was the best QB performance by anyone in 2D the last couple of years. I don’t get the Dolin snub at all. Even just looking at the regular season, I don’t think there are 4 better lineman in the region.

  4. I have watched 6 CW  games now. Like everyone has mentioned they have a very good line and their strength is the power run game. I actually think Graham has the athletes to match up with them man to man on the passing game. Most of their completions are more contested catches which should be more difficult against Graham’s DBs. A lot has been said about the CW and King William game being closer than the champ game last year. KW’s rb gashed them on the ground last year. Once he reached the 2nd level they couldn’t catch him. He finished the game with over 350 yards on the ground. This gives me hope that Clements can do the same.   CW seems to struggle to defend the edge at times. However the teams they have played lacked the speed to really make them pay with long runs. I have been wrong plenty but I like Graham 35-21. Should be a great game and I am looking forward to it.

  5. Watching Central Woodstock, they remind me a lot of Union when they had Pollier. This game will come down to how well Graham can stop the run and if Clements can get free when Graham is on Offense. There also seems to be plays to be made throwing the ball over the top on Central but this has been a struggle for Graham this year. This should be a heck of a game.

Gfan, you guys would know better, but from what I'm told, Dudley really came on at UVA.  He was more like an All State type player his senior year at Graham, but not an all world type player, and many doubted he could even play college football because of his size.  His resume is unparalled by any player in SWVA, but regarding his High School resume, others have done more.  Again, they've done more IN High School.  Whole other ballgame after High School.  Again, this is what I've been told about Dudley from others, but absolutely have no direct knowledge like many Graham fans would, and I don't claim to know.

That was so long ago I don’t know if any one could  speak on it. I think something to consider though is that he enrolled at UVA at 16. He started by the end of his sophomore year at age 17. I was responding more to comment that Compton had the best resume.

Yep, the Rimington was introduced later.  He was a finalist for the Lombardi, IIRC.  I would still argue he has the greatest resume of any SWVA football player.

Depending on how far you want to go back, I would say Bill Dudley. He was a Maxwell Award Winner and NFL MVP. He is also a member of both the college and pro football hall of fames.

The matchup we predicted back in August is finally here! Since the loss to the Beavers, the Pack's outscored Gate City, Tazewell, and VA High by a combined 113-0. Since a close win over the Beavers, the G-Men have utterly destroyed every team in their path. The winner enters the semis as the 2A favorite. I'm going with the defending champs at home in a close one.

    Graham 27 Ridgeview 22

    I am taking GMen 35-21

Watching more and more on RV over the holidays on nfhs.  I like their chances against Graham.  The biggest difference I can see is Graham's attention to detail on special teams as opposed to RV.  RV matches up a little better than most with Graham.  If RV gets in a groove like they've been in the past few weeks they win by 2/3 scores.  If they can't produce a few stops along the way, I'm not sure they can win a slugfest/track meet with Graham.

I would bet @Ryan4VT ant farm that Graham doesn’t lose by 3 scores.

You may be right, but the thing about Graham's secondary is they have a lot of speed and can recover, if they do get burned. If Graham gets pressure to the QB early, it will be a long night for Ridgeview, if not, I thnk Ridgeview will have some success.  However, in the 2nd half, Graham has had a tendency to wear down their opponents on the line of scrimmage and it really starts to show.  I think Ridgeview has a pretty decent line, if they can withstand the pressure (and it can be intense at times).  They have a good chance to win it.  If not, I like Graham's chances.

On the other side of the ball, I think Graham should try the power - run package they used against V-High some, if they don't have a lot of success at first.  That is very hard to stop.  I wouldn't pass, if I was Graham, unless I had to.  They have a 2000 yard Running Back and a solid Fullback in Hughes that can run the ball, Floyd can come in the spell Clements and Edwards can do the mis-directions and end arounds pretty well.  Throw it sparingly and it could be very effective.

I would be surprised if Graham doesn’t take a couple of shots deep. Ridgeview plays a lot of man coverage with no safety help. Bluefield got behind them a couple of times.  For what is worth Ridgeview shut down Union’s power run game. I think Graham’s main game plan has to be get the ball in Clements hands as much as possible but you may have to throw deep a few times to keep Ridgeview honest. Ridgeview plays the run well because they typically stack the box and trust their athletes to cover on the outside.  It will be a good matchup to see if Watkins and Edwards can get behind Ridgeview’s DBs the way Bluefield did.

You really don't think Graham is giving up 42 do you? Nobody scored more than 25 all year including Bluefield.

If Graham gives up more than 28 points they lose.  I went back and watched a couple of Ridgeview’s games and a few things stood out. First off they are running the ball a lot better than they did under Tiller. Can they execute this against Graham and stay out of 3rd and long? Graham has the best Dline in the area. Their Dline is better than Bluefield’s by far. The way Bluefield had success was forcing Ridgeview into obvious passing situation and then getting to the QB. When the Ridgeview QB has to move out of the pocket his accuracy drops significantly. This game will come down to if Ridgeview can find away to keep Grahams Dline in check.

The self implosion would be be having Beavers’ kickoff return down to the 1 yard line called back for a questionable block in the back.  That probably puts RV up 21-7.  The pick six should have never been thrown and the RV QB stares that down, that’s a 7 pt mistake.  The two deep shots to Bradshaw that everyone saw coming a mile away was not handled by the secondary as the S and CB deferred coverage to each other both times.  That is 28 points folks…that’s a self implosion and none of those were due to the pass rush….not even the pick six as it was a quick out and just should have never been called.  By saying the RV had a self implosion, it doesn’t belittle Graham in anyway.  There definitely was an implosion and the moment and momentum was too much for a Fr QB and a green coaching staff.

The pick six was tipped by the pass rush. Graham also pulled starters in the 4th or the score would have been worse. Ridgeview may very well win this weekend, however there is no universe were Ridgeview was winning last year.

If it wasn’t for Ridgeview self imploding they would have beat Graham last year.   I say this year RV takes it. They’re playing with a chip on their shoulders right now.

I wouldn’t say they imploded. They couldn’t handle Graham’s line on both sides of the ball. That will decide this game as well. Graham is returning 4/5ths of their line. The question will be is Ridgeview improved enough to give O’Quinn enough time to get the pass off and can they stop Graham from gashing them on the ground. If they have it will be a game. If not it will be a different year but same result.

I can assure you that neither the Graham coaches, players, or fans are counting out Gate City. Tony Palmer & his staff do a great job of keeping the boys focused on the task at hand and not looking ahead. I believe RV’s former coach told Tony Palmer after last year’s championship game, he’d see Graham again next year & the outcome would be different. Now, that’s looking ahead 😂😂😂

Well that was certainly a lie, he is not even coaching Ridgeview.

Clearly......thinking a 7th seed 3rd place SWD team will come in an play with the top team from the M7. The only team that has a chance to beat RV is RV and Graham....and in that order.

As far as QB comparison, wait till the RV and Graham game and compare stats between the two. Would like to see stats for both when paying quality opponents. Chucking TD's vs subpar defenses shouldn't win accolades.

It will be interesting to see how Ridgeview adjusts to Graham’s line. That was the difference in last years match up. Once Graham started getting pressure Ridgeview didn’t have an answer. Graham is returning almost the same Defensive front as played in that game.

As we speculate they both need to be worrying about this weeks match up first. Hopefully we get Ridgeview vs Graham again.
