Bingo! I counted 60-70 on the 3 GC little league teams combined for this year and noticed several others were asking how to sign up. A couple of years ago we had 26 players on varsity and thankfully the interest and desire has seemed to have returned. 

The GC Radio guys "guesstimated" 54 at Midnight Madness but it sure looked like there were several more than that to me. Then again i'm gettin older.

I don't remember Forest bringing many at all honestly which surprised me. I still don't see how we won that game. That was the prettiest ugly kick I've ever seen.

Gate City is hosting Virginia High in the benefit game this year also.

Should've made West Ridge the Coyotes. I live about 10 minutes from there and we have them everywhere here..lol

I think GC's scrimmaging at West Ridge.

Oddly enough, this same thing happened at Gate City several years ago. Hopefully they can get it figured out but they sure didn't give them much time to work with before finding this out. As for our "visitors" seating, I've been going to GC games for 50 years and it hasn't changed. The only times I can remember another school filling up the entire visitors side was the first year of Lee High's existence and when Broadway came down for the state championship in '97.

I was a member of both of those boards back then and the old LPD board so I'm glad to see it's still in good hands. I appreciate the work you fellers have put into this over the years. I've been here this long so I might as well hang around..lol

Thank you GMan for your dedication to this site and for all of the folks that have continued to post here over the years. As Ryan stated, a lot of life changes have happened since I've been a member here so I'm sad to see it go. Best of luck to all of you!

The black would've been ok once a year or so but I wasn't a fan of it for every game. I'm glad they made the switch.

Gate City updated their lids for this season.

GC played a scrimmage at Letcher County one year and it was awful. I saw players from all teams hit 4-5 yards out of bounds and nothing was called. That was GC's last trip there.

We do enjoy a good cowbell at GC.

2001 PV vs Gate City regular season. Gate City returns to the LPD the beginning of the season. Only blemish was a 28-0 setback against Richlands. Powell Valley had high expectations for the season despite 2 setbacks against a good Grundy and Richlands, both of which could have gone the other way. 
 

Gate City, while very young was still very good. PV led 21-7 I believe at the half. Gate City tied it right back up in the 3rd quarter. 35 all end of regulation. GC gets ball first in OT. 4th down FG no good. PV scores first on its OT possession for the 41-35 win. 
 

GC paid us back in the playoffs. 

I believe that might've been Isaiah Spivey's break out game. I can't remember the PV RB but goodness they put on a show.

I thought I read where GC dropped Radford and picked up Tennessee High. Then again I've slept since then.

In all seriousness, it's amazing that last year GC only fielded 28 players and bumped that up to 60 this year with a 7-2 record and playing for a District title next Friday night. There are alot of young guys contributing also so these boys may be around for awhile. No matter what happens the rest of the way, I'm tickled to death for those kids, the coaches and the community.

Shot themselves in the foot multiple times in the first half. They played much better in the 2nd half. They had some illnesses last week at Radford but not sure it would've mattered with that bunch.
