  1. Lee is 1-6...beat Cawood. They've improved over the season, still having some bad luck. Lee lost to Haysi 28-7, but if it had been played earlier in the season, it may have been a lot worse. Lee did have a chance to score a couple more times in that game, once they were stopped at the 2 yard line on fourth down but the down before that the running back slipped and fell at the 6, unfortunate there yet again. Then they just missed on connecting on about a 40-45 yard bomb early in the game. I listend to it on the radio, didn't get to see it because the game was in Haysi. Perdue is good. He's a strong qb, takes a pretty good beating most games. He has a strong arm, too strong most of the time, that could be because he's running for his life on most plays lol. They do have a big line, but sounded like they struggled with the speed of Haysi, and Lee does have a couple of decent rb's and a good reciever in Garret. I think it'll be a close game, it wouldn't suprise me if Lee were to win though. By the way, I think Lee needs a win more than Abingdon, better yet, I KNOW they do LOL. Anyway, good luck to both teams, hope it's a good game.

  7. Nice article from the K-times on a Lee High volleyball player, who by the end of the season should have her name in the list of some VHSL records. http://www.timesnews.net/article.dna?_StoryID=3552021 Generals' Greer remains down to earth By GEORGE THWAITES Times-News BEN HUR - Not only does Lee High volleyball standout Alysha Greer toot her own horn, she also waves her own flag. But only in the literal sense, mind you. After a week of dominating opponents at the net, the 6-foot-1 senior looks forward to Friday nights marching with the Lee High band in halftime shows as head of the flag corps. "I really enjoy the activity of the flag corps. It's a whole lot of fun," said Greer, who has played saxophone since fifth grade. "Halftime shows are fun. I also like marching in parades. The Christmas parade in Gatlinburg is fun because there are so many people there." While Greer enjoys showmanship, she's anything but a showboat. Lee High volleyball coach Angela Thomas is also Greer's English teacher. At the beginning of class this fall, she asked her students to write an autobiography. Most of what Greer wrote was simply about the family relationships that were important to her. "With all her accomplishments the past year, all she wrote was that she was in the band and played volleyball," Thomas marveled. "She stated it very simply: ‘I play volleyball.' I've coached kids who've accomplished far less and they have that swagger. She just floats on through." Float? Soaring might be more like it. As a sophomore middle hitter on a Lee High squad that had three 6-footers, Greer had 109 kills on the season. Then she made the move to outside hitter. The 464 kills she hammered out while leading the Lady Generals to the Group AA state quarterfinals last year stands as both a single-season and career record at the school. She was the unanimous Region IV Player of the Year and was a first team VHSCA All-Group AA selection. The only Group AA player in the state to have a better season than Greer was Blair Brown of eventual state champion Loudoun Valley. Brown went on to sign a volleyball scholarship with Penn State. "Last year, I realized that I was actually pretty good at this. My sophomore year just wasn't as good as it could have been," said Greer, a solid student whose favorite academic subjects are English and computer information systems. "I'm just more comfortable playing from outside. My hits are a lot better and I have a lot more power. My personal philosophy is to hit it hard and put it down." As of the end of last week, Greer was 245 kills shy of 1,000 for her career. To meet the millennium mark would be a daunting accomplishment, requiring a season average of 19.8 kills per match. Even considering her single-match highs - she had 35 kills against Abingdon last year and recorded 26 against Virginia High last week - maintaining the pace for 1,000 might be a tall order. At any rate, that would be gravy. College scouts from UNC Asheville, Coastal Carolina, Furman, Milligan, Campbell University, Carson-Newman, Lincoln Memorial University and (sporadically) the University of Kentucky are interested in her whether she hits that career mark. Thomas characterized Greer as one of the most "stable, courteous and down-to-earth kids" she's ever met. While she believes Greer is capable of playing Division I volleyball, she thinks her pupil will probably choose a college primarily on the basis of its cultural and academic offerings. "She's not one of those kids who thinks a big-name Division I school has to be it. She likes art. She likes music. She likes dance. She's not a party kid. She's not going to be interested in an active campus social life," Thomas said. Greer's main athletic goals remain team-oriented. As of this week, Lee High is 9-3 overall - its only losses having been once to Science Hill and twice to Rye Cove. "We want to win the districts again. And we want to win the region. And we want to go back to the state," Greer noted. While Greer is probably Lee High's best individual volleyball player ever, she may very well be surrounded by the best supporting cast ever. Student body fan support for the volleyball squad has grown noticeably this year. Greer doesn't think for a moment that it's all on her account. "I think everything has changed, but it really hasn't changed me. If not for my team, I wouldn't be what I am," she said. Whether Greer's apparent lack of egotism is due to extraordinary virtue or merely common sense, Thomas truly appreciates her star performer's point of view. "It's nice to have a big, 6-1 kid who's so powerful. But if she was all we had, everybody would just focus on stopping her," Thomas said. "I've been real lucky to have some talented setters and awesome setters. If we lose them, we lose our chances of winning. So our success isn't based only on Alysha. But she does make our team better."
  8. This was definately a really good game. Lee did fumble the ball on the opening drive I think, they took it down to the GC 10 yard line and then fumbled it and GC took over. Then those couple of fumbles by GC that basically bounced right back up to their own players lol...but yeah definately a good one. Hopefully Lee can take this game and regain some confidence the rest of the season, and continue to improve. Good job guys.
  9. Eric Satterfield is the Lee High's leading rusher(4901 yards), also holds the top two rushings yards in a season records(1878 yards in '98 and 1791 in '97).

  11. Lee High's JV is 3-0..if they beat Abingdon yesterday. Which was 34-14?? or something, maybe someone from Abingdon knows. Anyway, they also beat Rye Cove(27-6) and Sullivan North(38-8).
  12. Jared Will...of Lee High, 17 carries for 146 yards, 1 catch for 36 yards, two touchdowns, and a 2-point conversion..
  13. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=clayton_john&id=2152424 This was at the end of the article.... [ QUOTE ] "Those who criticize him for staying so long, though, are wrong. The 49ers let him leave in 2001 at the age of 38 and they were wrong in evaluating where he was at. He caught 83, 92 and 63 passes for the Raiders. More amazing is that he changed positions to make those catches. Tim Brown had the flanker position that Rice made popular in the West Coast offense. Rice had to go to split end where he lined up directly in front of a cornerback trying to jam him. At flanker, Rice was behind the line of scrimmage and could use his guile and precision to avoid contact from cornerbacks. Rice had to work harder to beat corners at split end and he did. The consistent Rice was fading in 2004, but he still showed flashes, especially after getting traded from Oakland to Seattle. He had a great Monday night game against the Cowboys, catching eight passes for 145 yards and one touchdown. That game earned him the right to have one more chance. Had Rice entered the league as a speedster, he might not have lasted until he's 42. Because he was supposedly slow, he could stay longer. Monday was the right time to retire. His next stop is the Pro Football Hall of Fame in a vote that will take no more than 4.7 seconds. [/ QUOTE ]

  20. http://www.timesnews.net/article.dna?_StoryID=3536643 Generals' Sabbatini hungry to make up for lost season By JACK GOODSON Times-News JONESVILLE - Aug. 18, 2004. The first day of school ... and the last of Frank Sabbatini's junior football season. During a preseason scrimmage with Lebanon, the Lee High fullback took an option pitch. When the play was over, Sabbatini's right fibula had been broken in three places. "I hit the defensive end and heard something snap," recalled Sabbatini, who was scheduled to start at fullback as well as middle linebacker in 2004. "I thought I had sprained my ankle at first." But, to his dismay, it was much worse. While the scrimmage took place on a Thursday, it was Monday before Sabbatini saw a specialist at the Norton Rehabilitation and Sports Clinic. Later that day, while attending a training session, the New Orleans-born Sabbatini heard the news from his coaches. "When they told me, I was like, ‘No way, y'all are joking,'" he said. "I called my mom to find out for sure and she said it was true." After seeing the X-rays for himself, Sabbatini started coming to terms with what had occurred - and what lie ahead. With six to eight weeks of recovery and a period of physical therapy to follow, Sabbatini saw his junior season fade before it even began. Instead of sulking, he set several goals - including making it back before the end of the '04 season. "I told myself I had to get stronger, no matter what," he said. "I lifted everyday. I started out squatting 95 pounds and went to as many games as I could." Sabbatini's work ethic needed little motivation, but he received plenty from the Lee coaching staff and players. "The guys would hit the gym with me," he said. "They did what they could to help with weights, motivation, whatever. "It was a great feeling to have my teammates behind me." Although he made exceptional progress, Sabbatini failed to return to the field last fall. While such a setback could have ruptured his confidence, it has only fueled his drive. "He's coming back for his senior season hungrier than ever," Lee coach Gary Wolfe said. "Nobody has worked harder than him. He has been in the weight room every day." Now, after nearly a year, Sabbatini is back to 100 percent and training with the Generals for the upcoming season. His recovery has the Generals excited and, with a bulk of last year's roster intact, eager to rebound from two straight 1-9 seasons. Sabbatini is a gleaming example of this new mentality in Jonesville. "I believe it's going to be better," Sabbatini said. "There aren't going to be any more 1-9 seasons around here. We're going to give the Highlands District a run for its money." Wolfe agreed: "His attitude is right where it needs to be." And while this season has yet to begin, life after high school is already on Sabbatini's mind. While he hopes to continue his football career at the college level - Tusculum and Concord University, where his brother Robert starts at linebacker, have shown interest - his injury has made that journey harder than expected. Just don't expect Sabbatini to let that stop him. "I would love to play in college," he said. "This injury has hurt my chances, but I just have to continue to work hard and stay dedicated. "It'll happen."

  22. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Sorry i started sumtin guys, i just dont like other ppl tellin us that we suck when the facts prove otherwise. Im sorry guys, i really am. [/ QUOTE ] Nothing to be sorry about. Richlands' band doesn't suck. In fact, Richlands and Graham have the two best bands around here. Bluefield's band is pretty good too, but the low number of band members (25-30) in recent years have hurt it. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, thats for sure, they certainly do not suck. Richlands and Graham DO have the best bands, no doubt about it. Lee just hasn't been "one of the best" lately. They're not at level that they once were. Though, I do think they are trying to be that band they once were again. Lee started practicing a month earlier this year, which is a big suprise taken the attitude of some members while I was in the band, and heard a few say they are looking good so far, but those were parents so...yeah. I always wondered how Bluefield's band was, considering the success Graham had, I figured they were pretty good too. Thought they would make the trip to Lee the year Bluefield played at Lee. We were going to make the trip up there with a "pep" band but something came up and we didn't get to go.
  23. [ QUOTE ] Sorry i started sumtin guys, i just dont like other ppl tellin us that we suck when the facts prove otherwise. Im sorry guys, i really am. [/ QUOTE ] Nothing wrong with that, I was just curious as to what others had to say. Thought the convo might continue on this.
  24. Nah, Thomas Walker.. or better yet Cawood KY. Last time I saw them they had around 10-15 members, and they were in "awe" as we marched by..LOL. The first thing I heard out of one them was, "WOW, look how big they are, and look at their uniforms." First thing that went through my mind was, haven't they ever seen a band before. OK, if I have to be serious, and be completely truthful..then I will say Richlands is the best. There, I said it, RICHLANDS IS #1. You all just don't know how hard it was to say that..
