In my 30+ years of watching area high school sports I have never encountered such a CLASSY fan base from two schools. In two threads there are no bragging or excuse making about such an important play-off game. With comments like congratulaions to Richlands and good wishes in the play-offs and congratulations to Graham and good wishes in the future I am honored to be able to enjoy this true sportsmanship from both sides.

I know that this not a Virginia or West Virginia team, but I am going to Charlotte North Carolina this friday to see Charlotte Independence play Davie County. Charlotte Independence has the nations longest winning streak at 89 straight wins. 5 straight NC 4AA (largest school) state championships.

I was thinking about going to the Dallas/Carolina game myself. But for me it is only a 45 minute drive.

OK, someone from Lee county help an old man's memory out here. For some reason I am thinking it was Flatwoods HS that help make up the Lee High Generals.

Jonesville & Pennington gap = Lee high school (along with Dryden HS, Keokee HS, and one more that I can not remember at the moment). Big Stone Gap HS & East Stone Gap HS = Powell Valley HS (in 1959)

One player that I would have to mention would have to be Ed Clark from Appalachia. The uncle of the Jones brothers from Powell Valley. I never got to see him play in person but I have seen tapes of his playing days. A true leader on and off the field. He showed his love for his fellow man when he gave his life to save another.

Best coach from 1984 - 2004? With seven state championships in that time span I would have to Robbins at Powell Valley.

Powell Valley 28 Gate City 21 final

Powell Valley MAY win the LPD title this year. Gate City MAY win the LPD title this year. Clintwood MAY win the LPD title this year. J.I. Burton MAY win the LPD title this year. The way that I see it anybody can win on any given night. But as of right now Gate City is the defending LPD, region D and state champions, so that puts them in a good position to capture the LPD crown. If I remember correctly the PV/GC game is in Gate City this year. Anybody would be hard pressed to name many schools who have won more then a handfull of games there other then Gate City. If I were to make an early season prediction on the LPD, then my vote would be the Blue Devils of Scott County. So until my Vikings beat the Blue Devils, the LPD belongs to Gate City.

Seeing that you have directions to get to Appalachia, then finding the field is simple. Seeing that thier is only one main road leading to and leaving Appalachia, you will find the field at the High Shool at the north end of town.

Why would Pound and Clintwood even want to leave the LPD?
