  1. Not completely BigD4VT. A team can petition to play down a division if they are less than half of the size of the largest school in that division. The "Rye Cove Rule" as it is known was formed 2 years ago after everyone complained about RC being in D2, something RC had know control over even though they listed only 192 on their enrollment.
  2. Apparently they have changed GC's hot dog since the last time I got one. It used to be horrible. Rye Cove features an Eagles Nest (chili, corn chips, cheese, salsa, jalapeno's, you name it). Pretty dang good. Mitchell Stadium always smells nice, but I rarely get to eat at too many facilities.
  3. Comparing the top teams with similar in enrollment in VA and TN is laughable generally. VA has a lot better talent generally, and teams overall. Look at recruitment. Normally the best team in TN the last few years could be found in 4A, or even 2A. Maryville, and Alcoa have been better than DB year in and year out over the last 4 years I would say. I haven't seen DB in a couple of years, but really they don't have huge boys on the line or nothing, but they may have a little more speed at the skill positions, but I think the top teams in SWVA could make a decent game of it. Who wins? Who knows? The 03 GC team would have whipped DB that year IMO. Most of the teams from PV or GC in the would have given them a dang good run for their money, and won a couple. TN high school football for the most part is a lot weaker than VA. Take Graham for instance when they faced Greeneville. At that time Greeneville was pretty dang tough in TN, and lost to DB by a FG or TD when Graham split with them if I am not mistaken. I haven't seen either team this year, but last year, I would have said that Richlands would have probably won like 21-10 or something. Who knows though, DB will never schedule a small VA school. it would hurt their street cred! :;
  4. Yes. In 96 they made it to the regional finals and were defeated by PV at PV. It was Tester's senior year, and they had defeated Haysi the prior week in the first round of playoffs if I am not mistaken.
  5. They have a red M with Hurricanes written through it I believe, but you could also use Miami(OH) football helmet logo. They are pretty similar.
  6. 3-1-3 A periiod or periods may be shortened in any emergency by agreement of the opposing coaches and the referee. By mutual agreement of the opposing coaches and the referee, any remaining period may be shortened at any time or the game terminated.
  7. Yeah, but so is PV and Lee High. A good football team is a good football team no matter what division. It said that the wins came against weak single A teams. I am just saying Chilhowie is a very solid club and it is a respectable win for Marion.
  8. Chilhowie is pretty tough. I was surprised when I saw that Marion had beat them to start the season.
  9. I knowing calling games up there, those sandwiches sure have smelled good when I back up to the goal posts. Unfortunately, I have never had one though since they don't bring the officials one, and I have never just attended a game there.
  10. [ QUOTE ] patrick buchanan, b.i. salyers, jamie harless - emory boys, but all americans just the same. also, steve knight played for the colts [/ QUOTE ] BI also almost made it into the NFL. They thought he was a little small heighth wise though.
  11. [ QUOTE ] whatever council was loaded then all they did was dribble to half court and shoot WOW that must have been great coaching to tell a team to dribble the ball down the court and fire up threes. The coaching came in when he made it to state and guess what yep choke all three times i guess that was the kids fault. [/ QUOTE ] I could have swore Council won 1 state title, and made it to the final 4 another year, or two.
  12. [ QUOTE ] rye cove lost to appalachia twice and to j.j. kelly once. stripes, does that mean appy and kelly should be in the top 25 also? cumberland district rankings 1. castlewood 2. twin springs 3. st. paul 3. rye cove 5. thomas walker [/ QUOTE ] Yes, they did lose those games, but RC had been juggling around to build their bench for the district run. They also beat PH by 20+ who has defeated Castlewood. So those games I do not value as much. I do know that CW, TS, RC, and SP all should be extremely competitive with one anthoer. I did go to the TS/SP game the other night and thought both teams looked sloppy. SP threw the ball away, and committed a bunch of turnovers. Those let to easy buckets for TS which accounted for the difference in the score. I would hate to completely rank the district because I have not saw TW, Ervinton, or Castlewood. Taking a guess I would say: 1. Castlewood 2. Rye Cove 3. Twin Springs 4. St. Paul 5. Ervinton 6. Thomas Walker Although I do expect each of the top 4 to split some games with each other. I look forward to seeing what CW has to offer Friday.
  13. [ QUOTE ] who's rankings are these? rye cove? no way. where's twin springs? [/ QUOTE ] I can sort of agree. But I think if one of these two is there, the other should be as well. They are very equal, and I think they will probably split their meetings this season.
  14. [ QUOTE ] Rye Cove 21 Twin Springs 22...Justice is served...RC knocked out of D-2 playoffs with loss. . [/ QUOTE ] RC over TS. Justice is served with RC taking care of business.
  15. Well I hope he recovers quickly. Him and 21 are a pretty good 1-2 punch. The backup done a good job of keeping it together to kill the clock, and the rest of the game. That is probably the only time I will see FC, so good luck to them. They seemed like a good group of kids, and coaches.
  16. FORTFAN, how is your QB? I know he looked to be in some major pain on the sidelines. I hope he is OK, and good luck to you the rest of the way. It was a good game.
