  1. I have watched the 3rd Saturday in October from the bleachers in Bullitt Park before. It’s a long day if you are there for everything.
  2. Rye Cove is in the middle of a band rebuild. COVID was bad enough by itself but our long term band instructor had already filed for retirement at the end of the 19-20 school year which was much deserved. With the change in instructors and virtual classes it made it very easy for kids to step away from. RC now has another new band instructor this year as the one who replaced Mrs King moved to a new job in the school system after starting a family. Mr Bailey looks to be doing a great job in his first fall with only about 10 kids in the band. In 2019 I think we had 35-40. He had been able to get a lot of younger kids started which hopefully will pay dividends into the future for the program. Our band boosters have done a good job of keeping the kids hydrated and fed during summer camps and competitions. I believe they have been a part of team meals on game days just as cheerleaders have been as well lately at RC.
  3. Bitter is probably doing more local recruiting than she has in a long time. I hope each kid that is offered opportunities take advantage of it and that will help pave the way for more local products to have chances.
  4. I wonder how many volleyball games will get switched to Friday. For officiating purposes that probably needs to happen. The Cumberland is done with the regular season so that should help some. Covering these games could get difficult if many more make the switch this afternoon.

  6. RC at Chilhowie was moved to Thursday back in July. Hancock at Twin Springs is now moved to Thursday. TN High at West Ridge moved to Thursday as both teams prefer dry artificial grass.
  7. Something fall out of a backpack?
  8. Fast start for the Titans. Eastside not even able to run an offensive play yet.
  9. Believe WCYB said this one will start at 7.
  10. Not a lot to choose from this week in the viewing area on either side of the state line that would be considered top games. Eastside/TS and GC/Lee may have the most potential and I dont think either would have been on the preseason radar for that.
  11. Scott also just gave their coaches a nice increase in supplements at a recent board meeting. I think most of the coaches were very appreciative of that. When I was volunteering in baseball about a decade ago we were playing Hancock County. Got to talking to their coach while waiting on umpires to arrive. He had no assistants and was making $1000 as a stipend for baseball. Scott was paying $5k for HC and around $3k I think for the first assistant at the time.
  12. Virginia lost some good coaches, especially along the coast at bigger schools to Georgia because of that.
  13. 96 was the only year and we dabbled in it more than making it the base offense. Change of coaches brought about the change in offenses. Sarge didnt like the east/west run game as much as north/south run game.
  14. Rye Cove ran the jet in 96 but didnt stick to it after a coaching change in 97. Coach Wampler brought it in after watching Cumberland College I believe it was running it. That was a tricky hand off to learn at first after being used to the traditional Wing T sweeps.
  15. I may make an appearance there. I thought it was in Coeburn though until last night. Got to work late this Friday and it has the most appeal to me of all games in the area.

  17. Tailgating is probably better than the product VT is putting on the field.
  18. And it all starts with Kenny Wayne who played at ETSU or LMU one I believe.
  19. Muncy commits to ETSU I hope this is the first of many from SWVA as the new staff at ETSU has been good to communicate with and open to taking advantage of the talent in our area.
  20. Not a true block in the back but 2-3 illegal blindside blocks on the play. If Union is penalized on returns often I can see why on that play.

  22. I do not claim to be any authority on points either and as S10 said it takes some time especially trying to double check scores/records of out of state teams. Here is what I have for 1D after last weeks games: Honaker 22.0 Rye Cove 18.0 Twin Springs 16.6 Chilhowie 15.7 Holston 15.0 Thomas Walker 14.6 Eastside 14.2 Patrick Henry 13.8 Grundy 13.0 Rural Retreat 12.8 Hurley 11.8 Twin Valle y 10.6 Castlewood 9.8 Northwood 9.2 JI Burton 8.6
  23. Got word from his mom this morning. Broken rib. Lots of precautions were taken. He wanted to keep playing but when he left I was hoping it was just a bad stinger. Really wasn’t expecting a rib injury at all.
  24. Oh he’s been tough as a pine knot from the start. Solid cover CB as a FR.
